  1. He committed to Arizona St but no that is not a strong commitment for him. Plus the coach that recruited Vitters (Turtle Thomas) has left to go Florida International U as the head coach.
  2. Who did it say was there from the Cubs office?
  3. Especially at the Smokies park, almost 3 mph less according to the people that sit behind home plate and the scouts.
  4. Sinker, FB (mid-80s) and slurve; occasionally throws a change and split. I think I read that Hart was 89-93 with a decent cb and in the last month he's added a cutter or slider that has really helped and you can see it from the results he's had in the month of June.
  5. Now, is this the case of the Cubs seeing something wrong with a guy that was an easy fix or is he finally just figuring it out after the proverbial "change of scenery"? I'm just curious as Wilken is seen as a draft guru who is very good at identifying projectable talent and wondering if this is something he would have had something to do with. 3 very quiet but subtle moves. Hart, Henderson and Reinhard, all starting to heat up some.
  6. Well after one year we better release Samardzija because he really smells!!
  7. Hopefully it'll be good news for Boise pitchers soon. I'm sure he's going to be in Boise soon. His season at Auburn was done almost a month ago and its probably pretty smart on the Cubs end to let him get back on his feet again for a week or so and then on to Boise.
  8. Good news for starters in Mesa. I guess the bad arm below avg throwing catcher from Auburn threw out his first baserunner trying to steal, maybe he's got a below average arm but its a good start, one would think!
  9. you might be right, but i'd still like to see some evidence that Tim Wilken liked him better as a pitcher than an outfielder. I doubt just coming out of the draft, that Tim Wilken had very little to do about the trade, thats just a guess.
  10. Sounds like Salas had good control, he hit all the bats square on the nose.
  11. Wright Of Oklahoma State has signed and Sommer Of U of San Francisco has signed also.
  12. Also Wyatt Of U Georgia, Marquez Smith 3B, Clemson
  13. I absolutely loved the Hagadone pick and I hope you guys can't sign Dent (:)) but he's a good pick too. I'm just surprised the Red Sox weren't all over the local boy in Harvey. Maybe it tells you something other than money bothered clubs about Havey?
  14. also Backman rp VMI, Ashworth Lp U Kansas, Sasser from ECU, Bunton from College of Charleston, Mottram from Dowling College, Sawyer 1b Yale, Meyer rp Lamar, Lambert Lp U Virginia, Higgins Rp USF, Muschko Rp Lasalle, Vento rp Palm Beach CC, Moss 2b Memphis U, Leclerc of, U Florida, Bautista c FIU.
  15. Well thats not a very good walk/strikeout ratio I will grant you. I'm thinking thou that Colvin has a much better chance to play the outfield vs your rotund 258 lbs and 5'10 guy who's currently has 8 errors in the outfield playing left/right field and according to a Lansing paper, he even got hit in the chest with a line drive, unless we have a dh which I havent been told about, we might want to get some guys who catch the ball in the outfield, we seem to have this problem in the major leagues also. I read in an article that the Blue Jays were very upset when Snider walked into camp at 258 and older 19 yr old with a mature body. We'll see how it turns out, but Im betting Mr Colvin will figure some things out at the plate and by the way 311 isnt too bad in a pitcher league and 2nd in the league in rbi's and doubles and playing a good centerfield.
  16. I think I read where Hatley signed as a pitcher and not an outfielder.
  17. I hope we dont have to look at that face, someone put a Steve Buechele on the guy, they must have been blind, he's pretty ugly.
  18. I was reading thee Internet before last yrs rule 5 draft " INSIDE THE IVY" where Wilken said that Fontenot was his top underdog and thought that the Cubs might lose him last yr in thee Rule 5 draft. Glad we didnt
  19. I think I read Rosa and Latham have been signed and also Ruth isnt under control because he's going to Concordia college in California where he transfered to. Berlind is going to LA Pierce jc but isnt under our control because he attended Cal Poly SLO in the fall and Negron has been attending Yuma jc in Arizona.
  20. This game was pitched against Spanky and his gang.
  21. Check the article out on Tim Wilken our scouting director in Baseball Prospectus and its free!
  22. He didnt really play much in the summers, never in a high profiled college leagues and his walk total will increase with pitch recognition and he's got 3 stolen bases already, got a chance to be a pretty good player especially between Kotsay/Sizemore, not bad for being ranked # 178!
