  1. Eric Byrnes hahaha Byrnes wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. The guy murders lefties and plays good D, he'd be like a super expensive Reed Johnson. Not ideal but if we're selling Bradley for pennies on the dollar we could do worse. Byrnes vs. lefties the last three seasons: 2009: .230/.278/.514 2008: .258/.333/.484 2007: .248/.331/.455 I wouldn't exactly say he "murders lefties".
  2. I don't think it's an issue that he doesn't want to talk to the media about it anymore. I think there is a bit of a issue with the fact that Hendry feels there's nothing to discuss with Bradley though, unless Bradley was 100% accurate when he said the air has been cleared.
  3. Bradley has issued an apology. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/12253539 This is the part I'm not too fond of: Nothing to talk about? Seriously?
  4. I was thinking about this yesterday. He's younger than Johnson, and probably has some more upside offensively. He'd most likely get more at-bats with this club than he would with the Red Sox.
  5. He's back in Japan. Hitting .281/.391/.475 in 530 plate appearances this season.
  6. I want $30 million per year and perfect health. My chances of getting both of those things are about as good as your chances of finding any pitcher who will give you 20 wins and 30 quality starts on a consistent basis.
  7. Yeah, that's setting the bar a bit high. Maddux did that ONCE in his career (1992 with the Cubs). His QS% for his career was 65%. Randy Johnson did that ONCE in his career (2002 with AZ). Career QS% of 67%. Clemens never had more than 27 QS in a season. Career QS% of 66%. For his career, Zambrano is at 63%. The NL average this season is 51%, while Zambrano is at 60% for the season.
  8. I don't. Yeah...I hope they get what they can for him. It's doubtful that he's going to get better moving forward. Exactly. He's been awesome this season but his value will never be higher than it is after this season. The thing that concerns me about that is we don't really know what the concept of selling high is, so we'll probably hold onto him. The Cubs will probably hold onto him because of his no-trade clause and his lack of interest in waiving it.
  9. And now you've done it. My bad.
  10. Pitching like a back of the rotation guy for the majority of the season? Since May 27, he's posted a 3.40 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .682 OPS.
  11. We are one "consistent" away from this thread becoming a JoeChat.
  12. what happened? Presumably the fact that he gave up 2 runs. For his first win since July 22nd? Against the Pirates? Funny guy, you are. Actually Z got pissed that Lou took him out. They got into a heated discussion in the dugout. So, judging by your sarcastic tone you are upset that he dared to give up 2 runs. This is who Zambrano is, none of you cared when the Cubs were winning. Now that they suck, he's a nutjob. Fire & Passion + Wins = Good Fire & Passion + Losses = Bad, (MILLION DOLLAR ARM, TEN CENT HEAD KEVIN COSTNER TOLDMESO) siuc1996 : Zambrano : : wrigley23 : Soriano
  13. Purdue's offense is better than I expected. The big issue is obviously the pass defense, and I don't see that getting much better anytime soon.
  14. Fielding adequately for a rec league and fielding adequately at the major league level are two completely different things. Furthermore, the grind of a 162-game season takes more of a toll than playing a couple times per week. On top of that, the guy has back issues. I'd be very curious to see your definition of adequate fielding at first base. I play in an 18 and over wood bat league, and there are some guys in their 20s and 30s who can't play first base adequately. They'll catch it if you throw it right at them, but scooping throws in the dirt and ranging to either side for anything is a struggle for some of these guys. Broken down 40-year old men with less conditioning than Thome are probably not fielding the position very well. They're put there because they won't hurt the team as much as they would at any other position.
  15. A couple questions: 1. Do you have to keep 10? 2. Where do you lose picks in the draft? For example, would you lose your first 10 picks if you keep 10 players or do you lost the round in which they were originally drafted?
  16. I heard the Cubs make him wear water wings whenever he's eating soup.
  17. he's not allowed to play catch with his daughter? He was caught playing a pickup game which was reported days ago. Since he was caught, he is now saying he was just playing catch with his daughter. Again, the Dusty excuse. Hide behind the kids. So lame. "Reported" by some random caller on a sports talk show. That makes it 100% true.
  18. This. Most people don't mind running while in the act of playing a sport. A lot of people just don't enjoy it on it's own. And yes, there are a bunch of lazy fat-asses that don't want to do anything. No one's going to argue that.
  19. Everyone LOVED getting hit on the back of the hand with a ruler until Catholic school nuns started doing it as punishment. That's why everyone hates it now. Just a thought, but perhaps coaches started using running as punishment because they know a lot of people don't like it.
  20. Bradley in August, updated with today's performance: .303/.424/.487.
  21. I seriously fear Hendry trading Harden for someone like Cesar Izturis. My fear is Edgar Renteria, although that would be better than Izturis.
  22. Agreed. I would love us to make a much bigger commitment to some defense this offseason. Which will require getting rid of Soriano or Bradley and moving Riot to 2nd...as a start at least. Maybe one of those three will happen if lucky Frankly, even if we made the commitment to defense, it would most likely make our already beleaguered offense even worse. This team should be scoring more runs than it has this season, but for various reasons, it simply has not done that. If we could improve both, that'd be great, but I don't see many options out there who would fit that bill. I get that in the outfield, but Theriot cannot play short. With the blackhole we have had at 2nd, stick him there and play anyone at SS. It really amazes me how bad Theriot is on pop flies into shallow left-center that are well within his reach. Everytime someone hits one, it becomes an adventure.

This team should be scoring more runs than it has this season, but for various reasons, it simply has not done that. If we could improve both, that'd be great, but I don't see many options out there who would fit that bill. Even worse, I could see Hendry targeting someone with a great defensive reputation who in reality isn't that great at defense anymore and doesn't offer much offensively.
  24. Again, no one here is saying they're giving up on the Cubs for all eternity. Most people just realize that the chances of this team turning it around and making the postseason are slim at best. No one here is hoping the Cubs don't make it. A lot of people just realize it's most likely not going to happen. And frankly, the way this team has played, there's reason for disgust. This is a team that should be challenging for the division lead. Instead, they're nine games back with a little over a month to go. Some of the problems are due to nagging injuries, but a larger part of the problem is that this team simply has not played well.
