  1. With Baker producing, Aaron Miles has no place here anymore. Hell, even if Baker broke his leg in this game, there would still be no place for Miles on this roster.
  2. Are you talking about Milton Bradley? The guy that is OPSing .930 in home games? Even if Bradley succeeds I think it was a huge gamble. I hope he does succeed, as he has. I'm just questioning the judgment. You can't disagree the he was a huge disappointment from the left side for much of the season, the reason he was brought in. Yes, it was a gamble, largely due to his injury history. However, I'm still trying to figure out how all of that leads you to believe that he "can't handle the pressure to play in RF at Wrigley", when he's playing very well at Wrigley this season.
  3. I don't think many are defending Dempster's contract. Just that it was smarter than paying more for Lowe. Neither pitcher is lighting the world on fire right now. If Lowe is better, it's a tiny amount of improvement that isn't worth the additional cost.

  5. One of the many reasons why I can't understand why some people want to see him managing the Cubs.
  6. The Dwight Smith game is more memorable than a lot of those games.
  7. Keep thinking that. Like I brought up in another thread, the new owners are unlikely to fire the GM when there's likely next to no payroll flexibility in the offseason. Why hire someone new if they can't do anything about the mess they inherit? Well, it prevents the current GM for prolonging this mess. He's already tied up a ton of money for the next couple years. Keeping him around gives him the opportunity to mess up the years beyond that. I do agree though that Hendry will most likely be back. Why would Hendry have money to spend? He'd have his hands tied just as much by the all but frozen payroll the same as his replacement would. If the purse strings are tightened, correct, the damage he could do would be minimal. If they aren't, get him the hell out of there.

  9. Neither are ideal, but at least he has to throw a few more pressure pitches then as opposed to just hacking at whatever crap he throws up there. It really doesn't matter, he's not coming through. There's no pressure for Lee if he can see that Dempster is just waiting for a walk. I agree that the chance of him driving home a run is low, but if there's a 7% chance of him doing just that if he swings, I'll take that over the near zero percent chance that anything positive would happen with the bat sitting on his shoulder. And again, I'm not advocating swinging at just anything. Treat it like a 3-1 count. Look for a fastball middle in and swing hard. If you don't get it, you don't have to swing.
  10. In this situation, it's not that bad of an idea. He's facing a pitcher with very good control that could afford to walk the previous hitter to get to Dempster. He's not going to want to fall behind Dempster, so the first pitch might be the best one he would see. If I'm Dempster, I treat that situation like a 3-1 count...look for a fastball in a specific spot, and if I get it, take a hard swing at it. All that said, I'm listening on radio, so I didn't see the pitch he swung at. It was ball 1 and one he couldn't have done anything with. In that case, he shouldn't have hacked at it. However, I don't think that situation warranted an automatic take on the first pitch. He can't hit. I would rather he take 3 pitches and make the pitcher work. With the bases loaded? Against one of the better control pitchers in the majors? What's the point of that?

  12. You don't want to see his puppy slippers. He'd even make Mr. Burns cringe with his wardrobe. "See my vest, see my vest, made of real gorilla chest..."

  14. Well, for one, creepy Cardinals fan would have an epic meltdown, the likes of which has never been seen.
  15. It's amazing how many people want this. That would be a disaster.
  16. Fantastic.
  17. My fantasy baseball league switched over to a keeper league this season, allowing us to keep up to five players. For every player you pick, you lose a draft pick from the beginning of the draft (if you keep three, you lose your first three picks). I'm looking for some opinions on who I should keep. The league is a standard 5x5 Rotisserie with the following scoring categories: Batting: Avg, HR, RBI, R, SB Pitching: ERA, K, Saves, Wins, WHIP We have 28 roster spots plus one DL spot. We start a C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, MI, CI, five OF, 2 UT, and 9 Pitchers. My roster currently is: Pitchers SP Chad Billingsley SP John Danks SP Roy Halladay SP Tommy Hanson SP Felix Hernandez SP Randy Wells SP David Price SP Pedro Martinez (DL) SP Brian Matusz* RP Andrew Bailey RP Kerry Wood RP Francisco Rodriguez Catchers Geovany Soto Matt Wieters Infielders 1B Ryan Howard 1B Paul Konerko 2B Mark DeRosa 2B Orlando Hudson 2B Felipe Lopez SS Stephen Drew SS Marco Scutaro 3B Evan Longoria 3B Scott Rolen 3B Hank Blalock Outfielders Bobby Abreu Jacoby Ellsbury Luke Scott Ichiro Suzuki Dexter Fowler *I don't have Matusz yet, but I think my waiver claim will go through tomorrow. The italicized players are ones I'm not even remotely considering keeping. I'm curious to know who you would keep.
  18. Why choose one when you could have both on the left-side of the infield? Put Beckham back at SS, keep Ramirez at 3B, and enjoy the offense.
  19. Correct. This season: 7-for-9 with five home runs, 24 RBI, and a sac fly Career: 124 plate appearances, .414/.395/.838 (OBP lower than BA due to 17 SF against only 7 BB), with 9 doubles, 11 HR, and 136 RBI
  20. Yes The White Sox would have to put him right back on the DL then if they ever want him to do minor league rehab. I doubt they're going to stick him on the mound in a major league game after being out of action for nearly two months.
  21. That's what I thought... He hasn't pitched in a major league game since June 8. He can't be traded without approval from the commissioner's office.
  22. :-)) Does anyone know what injury Encarnacion had earlier this season? The guy wasn't bad offensively for a third baseman the previous three seasons, and is only 26. I'm curious if he'll stick at third though, because I've heard he's pretty bad with the glove. Wrist. Ran into him a few weeks ago when he was on rehab. The Reds have been down on him for a while. Attitude/Motivation issues. Ah ok. A wrist injury plus attitude/motivation issues can certainly have an effect on his value then.

  24. So I assume they move Cantu to third and finally put Bonifacio out of his and Marlins' fans' misery?
