  1. between soriano at 2b and manny in right field, carlos zambrano might not break a 5.00 ra
  2. chicago cubs oh wait
  3. chris huseby...
  4. Projections for minor league hitters and pitchers are useless. Just my two cents.
  5. Actually, you can subtract about .3 off of what I posted for his ERA. I said RA. A 4.00 RA for him would put his ERA somewhere in between 3.60 and 3.75. He's probably a 3.40 or so true production pitcher, RA wise, factoring in his bat.
  6. It's rarely ever injuries with position prospects where speed isn't 90 percent of their game. It's a combination of his poor discipline, poor work-ethic and the Cubs inability to develop hitters.
  7. Hopefully an RA under 4.00 and 25 starts. I'm not overly optimistic on either's chances.
  8. Guys, I think we are forgetting what's important here. We need to make sure that this deal gets done before the rosters are locked on MLB 09 The Show so that Jake Peavy is a Cub out of the box, not after the first update. For the sake of the children Jim. Think of the children.
  9. I had a longer post written up, but I'll keep it short and sweet. Half your batting order is classical mismanagement. Don't bitch about Kosuke Fukudome. If he's playing CF and produces like he did last season, he's an average major league centerfielder. That's not a knock. Average is good. Personally, I'd say his production last season is his floor. I'm more confident in him than I am a couple other starters we have. I know I am in the minority on that one though.
  10. For them to be number one, Alex Wilson's going to have to pitch like he did at Winthrop.
  11. Probably not more times, but Tinker to Evers to Chance, Three-Finger Brown, etc. were on postseason rosters as many times as Wood (1906--1908 and 1910). Gabby had to be on the four teams in the 30s and late 20s.
  12. maybe there was no consensus on josh vitters and we should have taken jason heyward instead!!
  13. Actually, I'm pretty sure everyone wanted someone else over Tyler Colvin at the time. Personally, I did want Travis Snider over Tyler Colvin. There was consensus on Ryan Harvey. The consensus with Mark Pawelek weren' really his ability. His ability slotted him quite a bit higher than 20th on the board, but his connection to Scott Boras made some teams gunshy. The point's that, in general, the Cubs drafting has been above average for the most part, they're getting good guys into the system for the most part. What we're not doing is developing them (especially the hitters) as well as other organizations. Really, the only *bad* first round pick from a consensus standpoint the Cubs have had this decade was Tyler Colvin. It's hard to bitch about Grant Johnson too. He was like 66th overall or something. Not 13th.
  14. Personally, I don't see a lot of room for growth in his game. He doesn't have a ton of raw power and it seems like low-to-mid twenties is his ceiling home run wise, though he gets forty doubles a season so that's fine. What you see is what you get with him, and that's certainly a damn good baseball player.
  15. If you're going to say that you preferred Nick Markakis over Ryan Harvey on June 3rd, 2003 you're a lying son of a gun. Everyone thought we got a steal with Ryan Harvey. Had he not shredded his leg, it might been 50/50 between him and Young for first overall pick. He 'fell' to the Cubs with the sixth pick. Ryan Harvey himself had better tools than Delmon Young at the time. He hasn't panned out, but to criticize the Cubs for selecting Harvey (or Dopirak) is foolish. If you want to bitch about Ryan Harvey you should be bitching about the player development of the organization, not the scouting. There's a very good chance had Nick Markakis gone to the Cubs, he would have never developed into the player that he has become today.
  16. very few have me blocked because they know what i bring to the table. The point is that Kerry Wood's injury problems from 2004-07 wouldn't have prevented him from being a short reliever. He would only experience problems after a certain amount of work, not necessarily from the start. In fact in 2005 he was perfectly fine relieving, but the Cubs decided to try and make him start again for the next season. He could never get anywhere, so finally the Cubs decided to let him just pitch in relief. Really the injury problems for him since TJ have very little impact on his likelihood of being healthy enough to be a closer. The TJ injury itself is completely irrelevant. Really, Kerry Wood is as reliable health-wise as any other short reliever, and probably more so than the guys we're replacing him with: Kevin Gregg and Carlos Marmol.
  17. ill be shocked if pie is as good as kotsay was early in this decade. that's no knock on pie.
  18. that's not going to resolve this issue. we'd likely include marshall in such a deal.
  19. They knew Mark Prior had a tear and they excersized his option.
