  1. the supply for qualified scouts during the season would be highly inelastic, one would think.
  2. maybe we can tell the dragons under the table well bid 35 mil on Kosuke Fukudome.
  3. Speaking of Japanese candidates, in order of FA year (9th season played) 2006 Hiroki Kuroda 2006 Kenshin Kawakami 2007 Daisuke Matsuzaka 2007 Koji Uehara 2008 Kei Igawa 2010 Kazumi Saito A long ways away: 2011 Nagisa Arakaki 2011 Tsuoyshi Wada 2011 Toshiya Sugiuchi 2014 Yu Darvish This may not be completely accurate due to service time (mainly with respect to Kawakami, Saito and Igawa).
  4. why would the brewers trade him to their natural rivals in the division?
  5. Except when you realize that the Cubs would be in the market for 3 starters if they trade Z.
  6. oh man, i remember reading this awhile ago. you made me dig it up, a few tidbits those are some of the highlights http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/features/050107debate.html
  7. Saito is a high 80s fastball with an excellent screwball, I believe. Kuroda is a power guy with a slider and split/fork.
  8. Kazumi Saito is sort of a soft tossing righty. His FB ranges in the high 80s with decent movement. Kuroda is a FA, but he might remain in Japan. He's a power guy though. Good fastball split and slider. If any other pitcher were to cross now and have a chance to make an impact, it would be Kei Igawa. He's struggled the last few seasons but hes a power lefty. He's not an FA until after 2008 I believe, so there's no need to post him until next season.
  9. Kei Igawa! Hiritoshi Ishii! He can't possibly be talking about Matsuzaka...
  10. I think Iwamura is going to have a tough time switching. He's a very very agressive hitter and has astronomically high strikeout totals for Japan. He's a defensive standout with decent power, I guess. I've always thought of him as a Russell Branyan light. It's pretty safe to assume that the Padres are going to get him.
  11. Yankees get: Dontrelle Willis Scott Eyre Cubs get: Alex Rodriguez Marlins get: Sean Gallagher, Angel Guzman or Sean Marshall Felix Pie Tyler Clippard or Christian Garcia Cubs assume all the 16 million ARod is due on his contract. The Marlins would get two pitching prospects, although those can be moved around. They have a lot of pitching prospects so they may desire another position guy instead. The main spot the Marlins have an orgizational need in is centerfielders, and a guy like Felix Pie might be perfect for them in that position. My initial thoughts would have them interested in Matt Murton, but not sure what their intentions with Josh Willingham is.
  12. That's a bit misleading. Hills five years from free agency and Willis is only 2. That may not mean a lot for the Yankees, but any other teams it's a huge factor.
  13. im no md, but the words "genetic" and "arthritic" in that article can't be good...
  14. That's simply not true. A guy like John Lackey may be an inferior pitcher to Zambrano, but his trade value is higher because he's two years away from free agency and Zambrano is only one year away.
  15. No. I mean jesus our pitcher would blow
  16. Exactly, if Matsuzaka doesnt get a fair deal, he can go back for one year.
  17. A 20 mil bullpen is excusable if it's a 4 inning 4 headed monster, but not when 1/4 of it goes to a guy like Dempster
  18. 1908, I understand what you're trying to say, but Boras can complicate matters.
  19. But he's under the team's control, so the team has that plus the precedent working against him. Ichiro was < 6 mil when he was posted the first year (3 years, 15 mil total), he didn't make 8 digits until he signed his new extension. this is a completely different case.So you think Daisuke would refuse to sign with the high bidder and play one more season in Japan if he doesn't get 8 digits? I just don't see him insulting the Lions like that after they finally agree to post him, and that's the only negotiating leverage he has if he's posted. Well at the time Ichiro was the first position player to come over. A few years later, it seems as if american clubs are becoming more and more open to the Asian market. Don't forget Matsuzaka's agent is Scott Boras, so I don't think he will be cheap. I don't think he can ask for the moon, but I certainly think he's going to get a fair deal. Otherwise he might just sign for one year the Scott Boras way.
  20. PAP = summation of (PC-100)^3 for each game; if PC < 100 PAP = 0.
  21. http://fireloupiniella.blogspot.com/ already....

  23. Huh? He's like the highest paid player in Japan from arbitration. A japanese player has never won their arbitration hearing.
  24. Well the more you see Randy Johnson suck the more I think that George will outbid everyone by 10 mil to be safe.
