  1. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/features/262460.html The GCL. All I can say is that I am loving the BA bias against short pitchers with present stuff (Reyes) You would think by now they'd understand being doesn't matter if you have the stuff.
  2. to be honest, we should have a NSBB pool for what mysterious injury prior is going to come to spring training with that evolves into something that involves his right arm.
  3. Meh, I was hoping the Cubs would take the vacant Missions spot in San Antonio. That'd be a 20 minute drive for myself when I am at school.
  4. Wow, I didn't even realize they listed Ceda's throwing arm as a lefty. It's purely a typo by some junior intern. He's listed as an rhp in the bio section. I wish he was a southpaw...
  5. I asked several questions about the Cubs, that was the only one answered. No other ones were answered :(
  6. Sean Marshall touched 95 when he was in Low A.
  7. I asked if Huseby qualified and if there were any other Cubs close. I also asked for some info on Rafael Dolis. THey said Ceda was listed at 205, but was more like 60 pounds over. He had good size fastball sat in the low 90s topping out at 96, his secondary pitches and control aren't great presently, hence the reliever down the road remarks.
  8. Bah, where's Liddi? Honestly...They said that some of the managers projected Ceda as a reliever down the road. I believe Huseby did not qualify.
  9. Chris Kline is doing a chat at 2 EST for BA on ESPN.com. I dunno if it is the AZL chat or not. I don't think it is as they say he is discussing MLB teams and playoffs.
  10. Rate2 and FRAR and DT fielding only uses data found in a box score. Clay Davenport likes that so he can find fielding figures for all-time.
  11. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0609100048sep10,1,1956873.column?coll=chi-sportsnew-hed Digging around I found this article from Phil Rogers about a week ago. The HS class may be better and it is certainly deeper, but as of right now the top three players in the draft have to be college guys, IMO. My top 10 would be something like: 1. Price 2. Brackman 3. Wieters 4. Harvey* 5. Main* 6. Beavan* 7. Jackson* 8. Burgess* 9. Arencibia 10. Schmidt Dont take them too seriously, but stars are HS.
  12. Ronny Cedeno hit .300 in 90 PA at the tail end of last season. This after hitting .355 in Triple A the same year. We all know how that one turned out.
  13. They don't need to run away from Brackman. Brackman ran away from the Pirates by selecting Scott Boras to be his adviser.
  14. http://www.850thebuzz.com/blog/?p=1775 Apparently Andrew Brackman has decided on sticking to baseball only. And if the Cubs want him, he is their's. His agent will be Scott Boras. Notes on Brackman - 93-95 FB topping out at 98-99. Sneak fast because of next: - Massive 6'10" frame (BA lists him at 7ft!) - splitter that should develop into plus pitch - tight hard slider that's very good - good repetition of delivery for a tall guy
  15. Baseball in between the Toothpicks by Dusty Baker Chapters include: - How walks clogged the bases in the 2002 World Series with Russ Ortiz - How Hammer a Nail in an Arm: Shawn Estes - How Hammer a Nail in an Arm: Kerry Wood - How Hammer a Nail in an Arm: Mark Prior - How Hammer a Nail in an Arm: Carlos Zambrano - A Study in Human Genetics: Why black baseball players fair better in Wrigley's heat. - The Historical Evidence of the Impact of Smallball on Winning: A Florida Marlins Case Study
  16. Judging from the Corey Patterson fiasco, I don't think they will ever realize that.
  17. It also might be one of the reasons the Cubs have been so freaking bad... My family is from NW Indiana (Valpo/Portage,etc) so every summer or so I make it up to Chicago. I went there this summer, but I didn't get to catch a Cubs game (I was there one week and they were on the road), but I went downtown to go visit some museums, and it was very clean. It's a direct contrast from what Houston is. Houston is one of the "newer" cities in that it was planned after cars, so it's a lot more dispersed than Chicago or New York. There's really no financial center to Houston despite being the fourth largest city in the US. Downtown Houston is a flat-out joke. The new basketball arena and Enron Field are just attempts at gentrification of downtown Houston. Most of the economic centers in the city are on the west side and northwest sides of the city in the suburban area. Oh, and I did get to go to a Gary Railcats baseball game, and I didnt feel like I was going to shot! Jermaine Allensworth was playing for them too.
  18. Post them here and I'll submit them if I can. I'm not sure when the chat will be but i have class from 2:30 - 3:45 CST, so we'll see.
  19. Yeah they went back and edited the Ask BA from last Friday. Lame. Oh well some of the guys on that On-Deck list won't be eligible and some of the guys not on that On-Deck list will be eligible. To qualify there you have to be in the league and make 1 appearance. Cahill, Morrow and Tillman didn't have the IPs. I am not sure if Chris Huseby will have enough. If he's not there I am asking if that was the reason or not. Although BA will probably run the chat through ESPN like they've done with Callis. I have a BA subscription but not an ESPN Insider one so I have no idea if I can get into those or not. Also On-Deck's lists are definitely more stat oriented on the tools-stats spectrum and BA is notoriously more tools oriented on the spectrum. So a guy like Brent Fisher would be higher in ODs than BAs unless Fisher got his fastball up to average-to-above average - which I do not believe he has.
  20. Boo I thought they were starting them today.
  21. http://cubs.scout.com/2/569125.html
  22. I sent this question in: Last week you said that Pierre was a good resign for the Cubs and said to imagine a 1-2 combination of Pierre and Izturis in the lineup. What exactly does that mean?
  23. Not really, a team can have one average starter, a good offense and four terrible starters. The teams' record will suck, but the average starter will have a very good W-L record. In the case of Zambrano the Cubs have 4 terrible starters and a terrible offense. However the Cubs' offensive output isn't dispersed evenly. In fact Zambrano's run support is 5.50 runs per game, which is 12th in the league. Win shares involves a teams' win-loss record so for evaluation of a player's true impact in a nuetral setting, it's not that good IMO.
