  1. I would love some background on Yu Darvish, because that is so not a Japanese surname. Meph did a write up on him and a couple other (I don't remember which forum), but hes half Iranian IIRC. He let up like 129 hits in 207 innings or something insane like that. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f189/kctigers23/JapanTop_2.png

  3. That's a loaded statement, most japanese players don't come over here until after their prime {Ichiro, Matui(s) and Matsuzaka are the exception). That said they've got quite a few good players here right now. There's a lot of young talent in Japan right now (especially on the pitching side of the game) Yuki Saito Yu Darvish Masahiro Tanaka Yoshinori Sato All of these pitchers have the potential to be in the front half of a major league rotation, with Sato and Darvish being potential elite pitchers (Darvish could wind up being the best pitcher on the planet). There are several other guys who could be at that level, but more than likely middle of the rotatino guys (Uehara, Saito, Sugiuchi, etc). Pitchers from Japan have thrived, it's the offensive side of the game where they haven't. Jojima has done well and so has Ichiro as well as Iguchi. The Matsuis haven't.
  4. I didn't see anything in there about increasing OBP, so until then, he's got a ways to go. im going to play devil's advocate here and say this: Increasing our focus towards latin american and japanese prospects is way to HURT our OBP since both areas usually dislike walks.
  5. I watched the end of it. What I didnt understand is the announcers said if it was an incomplete pass the time would have expired. What is the difference between incomplete pass and TD? Either way the clock stops. the announcers are idiots. the play wouldnt stop until after the ball touches the ground. If it was tipped up in the air, time would have certainly run out.
  6. he was being sarcastic...
  7. We could have a 32 game playoff and have no clue.
  8. Apparently the officials at the UConn/UL game were right. The rules say that in order to call a fair catch you have to waive your hand in the air back and forth more than once, something the punt returner didn't do.
  9. Actually....I did make one once, but only to keep track of draft profiles where I could post things. Basically an online data base of lots of prospects.
  10. I didnt realize you were into hip hop poetry
  11. NCCubFan are you insinuating that I post at a hidden invite only forum comprised of members that post at NSBB?
  12. is it all but decided that the preseason #1 next year is florida sorry i need to tell myself how good they are after their recent lull
  13. Meph's Special People For Sure. So wait... you'd rather be on your own list of special people, but didn't make the cut. I am too modest to put myself on that list. You know that.
  14. Not before me!!! I'm sure you're both the subject of many threads in some of the secret forums. SPILL THE BEANS. WHAT HAVE YOU SAID!
  15. when was the last w in green?
  16. That is probably true though, unfortunately.
  17. They are really just the Fighters. Nippon Ham is the company that owns them. Hokkaido is the island where they play (the big one north of THE big one). But seriously Ham Fighters would be an awesome name.
  18. your best hitter should bat second
  19. Because of his SLG? I've got to disagree. I'll tell you what, you take 05 Freel (.271/ .371..371) and I will take 07 Soriano (.299/.337/.560) as my lead off hitter. Which team will score more runs? Soriano's obviously... So would 30 points of OBP be worth 200 points of slugging? Of course not. Nice false choice. False choice? I did exactly what you're saying....replacing Soriano with a better OBP but not as high SLG. You see if you choose an = (or similar OPS) where the difference in OBP is 30 points you're going to find that their EqA is higher than Sorianos. We have to keep Soriano's EqA higher by 10 or so points, otherwise you're saying we should bat a superior hitter ahead of him which is what we should do. We SHOULD NOT replace him with an inferior overall hitter who has a higher OBP. We'd hurt our run output.
  20. Who would you bat lead off? If we had say Jones leading off and moved Soriano to fifth (behind Lee and Ramirez) we would expect him to come up to the plate about 80 less times over the course of the season. Anyways it doesn't matter. Moving Soriano down if it is the problem, is the least of the teams concerns. Right now we play automatic outs at SS, C, CF and RF. That's why the offense stunk. It had nothing to do with Soriano batting leadoff. It's irrelevent (which was my main point). Besides order doesn't matter much if anything. This should be the least of our concerns.
