  1. If we can get him for a bag of beans yes. There is a very real chance he hits .290/.325 with 25 hrs and 25 steals next year with +15 defense. Thats Felix Pie's ceiling.
  2. Looking at Saragin's ratings. # of wins for a conference against schools out of conference Top 50: 6 Pac 10 4 SEC 4 ACC 3 Mountain West 2 Big XII 2 Big East 1 Conference USA 1 Sun Belt 1 Southern 0 MAC 0 WAC 0 Little Ten Top 40: 3 Pac 10 3 SEC 2 Big XII 2 ACC 2 Big East 1 Southern 1 Mountain West 1 Sun Belt 0 MAC 0 WAC 0 Little Ten 0 Conference USA Top 30: 3 Pac 10 2 ACC 1 Big XII 1 Southern 1 Big East 1 SEC 0 Conference USA 0 Sun Belt 0 Little Ten 0 MAC 0 WAC 0 Mountain West Top 20: 2 ACC 1 Southern 1 Pac 10 1 Big East 1 SEC 0 WAC 0 Mountain West 0 Big XII 0 Little Ten 0 Sun Belt 0 Conference USA 0 MAC Top 10: 0 ACC 0 WAC 0 Big XII 0 Big East 0 Little Ten 0 Conference USA 0 MAC 0 Mountain West 0 SEC 0 Sun Belt 0 Southern
  3. Yes, Oklahoma who has beat who? A Missouri team who beat who? The Big XII didn't have any big wins in out of conference games. In fact the two biggest non-conference wins for any Big XII team may be Missouri's win over Illinois or Oklahoma's win against 5-4 Miami.
  4. It would also tell us absolutely nothing. Kansas would have played one or two real games and a lot of cupcakes (their schedule is STILL not top 100). Ditto for Ohio State, they would have pretty much run the table with a schedule that would be average for a mid-major conference team.
  5. The MephTen: 1. 9-1 Oregon (3-1) 2. 8-1 Louisiana State (4-1) 3. 10-0 Ohio State (1-0) 4. 8-1 Oklahoma (2-0) 5. 8-1 Arizona State (1-1) 6. 9-0 Kansas (0-0) 7. 6-3 Florida (2-3) 8. 7-1 West Virginia (0-1) 9. 8-1 Boston College (1-0) 10. 8-2 Michigan (2-1) Record in parentheses is record vs top thirty teams. The Mephman Top Five: 1. Dennis Dixon 2. Tim Tebow 3. Darren McFadden 4. Mike Hart 5. Sam Bradford
  6. http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/charts/leaders2-07.gif If that's the case, then he's a top ten centerfielder, maybe top five when he has his normal offensive season. Weird. http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/charts/leaders1-07.gif
  7. lol percy has 100 receiving and 100 rushing
  8. If Rodriguez was traded to the Red Sox and the Yankees were in the WS this year and Rodriguez announced he would opt out during the World Series, Gammons wouldn't have a problem with it. He'd say something like, "Well you know he has to give his team enough time to have organizational meetings regarding the loss (or potential) loss of Rodriguez. What he did is good for the organization." True Story.
  9. How many years does Pie have to stay in AAA before he's ready? How well does he have to perform there until he's ready? Come on... He is right. Jones, Pie, Murton and Floyd ARE competent in the OF. We don't need to work there. We have the guys.
  10. i dont care if other people for for Nomura or not. I just want to.
  11. Yes gap power can be good as long as it isnt 5 HR gap power and is 15-20 HR gap power, like again, Mark Kotsay.
  12. Fukudome isnt going to hit more than fifteen HRs a year hear. He's probably more Mark Kotsay than Grady Sizemore. The money would be better spent on a quality SS: Miguel Tejada. An OF of Jones - Soriano - Pie would be good defensively and would be serviceable offensively. Our money would be better spent getting the out-enigma that is Ryan Theriot out of the lineup. HRs aren't everything--and I agree, Fukudome in the big leagues could easily be no more than a 10-15 HR guy. Big deal. Kenny Lofton hit that level of HRs at the peak of his career, too. OTOH, Fukudome has everything the Cubs need, he is a PERFECT fit for this team. He hits for lower BA than Ichiro (300), but has much better plate discipline, so the OBP is just as high (400). He has gap power, so his SLG is strong (500) despite the modest HR totals. He can run some, and by all accounts has a cannon for an arm. Who will be dumb enough to run on the Cubs with an OF of Soriano, Pie and Fukudome? And finally, he adds balance to the batting lineup with a LH bat, and he doesn't strike out much, either. GET HIM. i know exactly who he is, what he has done and what he is capable of doing. don't lecture me on him. like i said hes pretty much mark kotsay ie .275/.360/.450 CFer w/ decent defense. that's not an insult, but I think the Cubs would gain more upgrading at SS over Theriot than Fukudome over Jonesy in CF. Heck he probably is NOT an upgrade over Murton at all. An OF of Soriano - Fukudome - Jones wouldn't outproduce an OF of Soriano - Jones - Murton by more than a handful of runs. Certainly not Fukudome's price. Offensively Murton's probably a safer bet than Fukudome and their upside is about the same. Both guys are .360/.450 guys.
  13. Fukudome isnt going to hit more than fifteen HRs a year hear. He's probably more Mark Kotsay than Grady Sizemore. The money would be better spent on a quality SS: Miguel Tejada. 14. You realize he was a star in the Negro Leagues for 10 years before he signed with a Major League team, right?
  15. to be fair he said tuesday at the earliest.
  16. The thing is we can objectively compare them if wanted to. Is it easy? No. Is it possible? Absolutely.
  17. I didn't every really think about Schilling. I wouldn't be against it. Anything to get Marquis out of the rotation I guess.
  18. I don't think they would announce it now if they wanted to non-tender him, but if there was a setback they may. I just don't see Hendry coming out the gate guns blazing like he did last offseason.
  19. they deserve it. just because they didnt play in the majors doesnt mean they cant play or that we cant objectively look at them.
  20. It's probably news regarding the health of Mark Prior and or announcing they're non-tendering him.
  21. 1. Josh Gibson 2. Johnny Bench 3. Biz Mackey 4. Roy Campanella 5. Yogi Berra 6. Ivan Rodriguez 7. Mickey Cochrane 8. Mike Piazza 9. Gabby Hartnett 10. Katsuya Nomura
  22. okay we know you'd take me over the other 11.
