  1. Nike butchered Michigan State's uniforms: http://www.msuspartans.com/view.gal?id=68126
  2. Dedicating the bleachers as a student section was an obvious but great move. I'm going to be jealous of that atmosphere. Just renewed my season ticket and placed an order for the Wrigley game. Tickets are $50 to $150, so not as bad as the Winter Classic. Now it's just time to play the waiting game. I'm rather pissed that I couldn't watch the press conference. My work computer has an old version of silverlight that you can't uninstall without logging in as the administrator. And you can't install a working version until the old version is uninstalled.

  4. NU vs. Illinois on November 20th at Wrigley (my one and only trip to Wrigley at this point) will finally be officially announced tomorrow at 11 AM.
  5. One day organizations will start to realize that they'd be much better off it all personnel decisions were made in the front office and only left coaches in the dugout. Not giving more responsibilities to someone in the dugout to keep them busy just leaves them to constantly change things to stave off the boredom. It's just like letting fans make the decisions. But instead we still get old men wandering out to the mound in tight baseball pants.
  6. I think everyone is forgetting that Piniella will probably change his mind in less than a week and a half just to somehow spin this into a "it was never intended to be a long term thing and as you saw in yesterday's start, it did him a lot of good" move. Or Zambrano will pull a Costanza and take the mound during his next previously scheduled start just to see if he'll notice.
  7. The next question becomes how the front office ends up giving Zambrano and Soto the Sosa/Bradley treatment to get the media to run the two out of town for them.. My guess is a public accusation that they've been bringing in fatty foods into the clubhouse and affecting the health of the other players. Or perhaps they carry some communicable chubbiness virus.
  8. I'm pretty sure this organization is some sociological experiment to see how long it takes to completely disperse a large fanbase. Luckily I stopped caring 2-3 years ago.
  9. Pappa really likes to let it rip. 1-0 Fire in the 80th minute at DC.
  10. It was a little frustrating, though. Just no ability to finish on either end. So many good chances wasted by poor final touches and decisions. Glad Rooney was pulled to spare those watching another 20 minutes of bitching. A real punch to the guts of city supporters.
  11. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chillini/2010/04/illini-vs-nwestern-at-wrigley-how-to-trick-a-team-out-of-a-home-game.html I'm not sure I'd have gone with the prison metaphor, but I've always felt that Illinois was the ideal opponent. They'll sell many more seats to Iowa fans in Evanston, Iowa (2010) and Michigan (2011) fans would dominate the crowd, and Rice (2011) is on Thanksgiving weekend. We probably wouldn't draw 35,000 for a game against Rice and it certainly wouldn't be on anything but the BTN. Until the Iowa rumor came up, though, I hadn't realized that Notre Dame's game at Yankee Stadium is also on 11/20. Ideally the NU game would happen first, either at 11 or 2:30, and be televised on ESPN. The other games that day are Penn State @ Indiana, Purdue @ Michigan State, Wisconsin @ Michigan, and Ohio State @ Iowa. I don't think they'd have a terrible time getting ESPN to commit to the game. Ohio State @ Iowa seems destined for 2:30 and ESPN2 can grab one of the other games.
  12. NU vs. Illinois at Wrigley on 11/20 is basically a done deal.
  13. money I never read anything about NIU actually turning a profit from the game in 2007, though that may have been the case. I believe they're hosting Wisconsin there in 2011.
  14. NIU is playing Iowa at Soldier Field to open the 2012 season. Unless I'm missing something, why would NIU do this so soon after their last game there against Iowa?
  15. I think a closer association with the Cubs might affect Wrigley Field's reputation.
  16. Kyle Rowley is transferring from Northwestern. I'm a little surprised considering a healthy offseason (he broke his foot last summeR) would put him in good position to get a lot of minutes.
  17. Now that's how you clear out.
  18. It's amazing his head didn't bounce twice there.
  19. Now they finally want to start to take control of the game. Had this been a Big Ten game, the arbitrary reversal would have happened 10 minutes ago.
  20. And a charge right under the basket? He wasn't even set...
  21. I mean that was clearly a foul on Howard. They're all clearly fouls. I suggest you rewind the DVR before making knee jerk reactions to ref decisions. It wasn't even bordering on a close call against Howard. Again, they're all clearly fouls. Don't randomly call a few fouls when the same thing is happening on every play. Either call it or don't.
  22. I mean that was clearly a foul on Howard. They're all clearly fouls.
  23. Howard is the only guy not allowed to swing wildly under the basket, apparently.
  24. This officiating confuses and irritates me. It seems like you can do whatever you want 4 times in a row, but on the 5th time you'll get a foul for whatever you do.
  25. Why call a one of multiple fouls on either side on that play when you can call a jump ball?
