  1. In video form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APudEYEVZJQ&feature=player_embedded
  2. Kuyt with a "right place at the right time" hat trick. I believe it was Suarez that set up the last 2 goals and a United defender gave him the first. The lead up to the second goal from Suarez was beautiful. It was going in off a United defender had Kuyt not knocked it into the back of the net, too.
  3. Double pneumonia, car crash, plane crash, double lightning strike, drug OD, and heart failure. Yikes.
  4. Great morning of soccer on FSC.
  5. Up to $85 after fees. You have to figure many still bought for resale without realizing how bad the secondary market would be right now, so another season like last year and sales will be significantly worse.
  6. It's 2-3 blocks from the Dempster St. el stop, which is less than a 40 minute el ride to Wrigley.
  7. Wow. I just checked a few games to see what was sold out strictly out of curiosity and you can still get unobstructed seats and bleacher seats for Opening Day. No VWR, either. I think that says a lot.
  8. The last few years I've only sat in the 500 level infield. Of course, I didn't go to any games last year, but that is where I would have been if I did.
  9. Ticket prices are going up $5-$15.
  10. It's been a while, but I don't recall this scene from Jurassic Park. http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/comment/11/2011/02/364f6201c8c43b65c29cff83f2627f77/340x.gif
  11. Me too. The upper deck (especially Upper Deck Box) is highly underrated. It used to be a good value. Now, if anything, it's probably overpriced.
  12. Not getting any tomorrow for the first time in a long, long time. Too pricey to make it worth it to buy in advance. If they're not doing well and I don't have a desire to go, or something else comes up, I'm not going to be getting my money back. If I have the desire to go to a game, I'll just wait until the day before or day of, whenever they release more seats.
  13. Cal has scheduled Presbyterian College for this September. In football.
  14. Lou Holtz chimes in:
  15. It would depend on the scholarship, I suppose, but what percentage of students are actually on an academic scholarship? A tiny, tiny fraction of college football players actually make it as pros even from the strongest SEC programs. Les Miles gets away with bogus medical hardship scholarships for guys who get cut so they can still stay in school. But most want to play football, so they're forced to go elsewhere.
  16. Schools don't kick you out because you're in a bottom percentage of your class. They do so if you drop below a certain GPA, which means that it's entirely possible to have a 100% retention rate. Football programs that kick out the bottom 10% of their players because they aren't cracking the depth charts are always going to be kicking out the same number of kids every year. It's entirely possible that every single kid of the team is giving it 100%, but that doesn't reduce the number of guys getting cut. Big Ten fans can take solace in the fact that the advantage will come to an end at some point. Considering the awful academic retention rates that SEC football programs possess and the number of signees that don't even qualify academically, there are some SEC programs that are going to be making huge adjustments in how they operate. Of course, the standards in which coaches are judged and paid won't change, so coaches will have a hell of a time keeping their jobs. And as we know, high turnover means fewer wins in today's college football.
  17. Except students have actual grades and a set GPA cutoff that isn't relative to the rest of the student body.
  18. Because there will always be a group of players who are the worst on the team. It doesn't mean they're not trying and not putting in the work. It just means there are better guys on the team than them. That's the reality of having a team in any sport on any level. We're not talking about guys who just stopped trying at practice and don't hit the weights. Maybe SEC coaches should work a little harder to go after the right recruits and not just any highly rated recruit with a pulse.
  19. The adjustment by Rooney on his goal was impressive enough. Yeesh.
  20. Ole Miss really kicked ass in the Oversigning Cup. They even put Alabama and LSU to shame. But that's what happens when coaches get hired and paid mostly on recruiting rankings. For a point of comparison, Northwestern signed 52 over the last 3 years. It essentially is a professional system. They get to stash players in the minor leagues (junior colleges) and make roster cuts whenever they want. Oversigning.com makes a great point when they talk about how SEC schools like Georgia and Florida should be going crazy and forcing the SEC to make changes. It's not going to come from the NCAA, though it definitely should.
  21. yeah this is not 2005 anymore. The only tickets that really command a high price are Cardinals weekend, Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox, and even the Cardinals and White Sox tickets are only slightly inflated I looked last year and there's no margin on those games. And now they're even more expensive. You might be able to make some on the Saturday Yankees or White Sox games, but that's about it. Most of those tickets will be gone before the on sale, anyways. Actually, I believe the only games that you can make some money on are weekend interleague series against teams that rarely come to Wrigley and have decent sized/nearby fanbases like the Twins or Indians. But those games have to be outside of the top pricing tier and I don't believe there are any this year.
  22. On a related note, looking at the Cubs pricing structure and awful weekends schedule this year, I have a feeling that the average fan buying single game tickets just to sell on the secondary market will actually lose money. The Cubs are smart about the ticket plans and premium fee presale, but anyone pursuing those or buying tickets when they go on sale just to sell them will be very disappointed.
  23. Don't not forget that Hanie threw a brutal pick 6 when the defense was playing well. And then there were the pair of Collins series.
  24. Tennessee, Kiffin, and former assistant David Reaves are expected to be hit with failure to monitor violations in the near future.
