I'm not sure what the point of practicing in that weather would be. It's not a toughness factor. If you can't simulate game conditions with the passing game, it's rather useless. It would be one thing if they were expecting that kind of wind on the following Saturday, but you don't really want QBs trying to complete passes into the wind when you're not going to experience it during the game.

Nope. I spent some time looking at it a few days ago and talking to some other NU fans. The problem is Northwestern's SOS. I posed the question whether beating Ohio State in the first matchup, plus a regular season win over a Penn State (not close either time) or Michigan State (very close both times and should've won the road game), would have been enough. Obviously that would have changed the BTT seeding, but I came to the conclusion that two such wins would have gotten Northwestern into the tournament. If I compared NU in that scenario with Penn State's actual resume, I would have had to take NU. Had the season played out the same but Northwestern hung on to beat Ohio State in the BTT, it would have required a run to the championship game to get them on the bubble. SOS would still have been a huge negative, but really the only one considering they would have beaten Ohio State on a neutral court. Perhaps then it would have come down to the winner between Northwestern and Penn State in the championship. Both probably wouldn't have made it.

Uh oh: According to the Columbus Dispatch beat writer, Ohio State was only made aware of the article 30 minutes before it was published. Edit: Yahoo now says Ohio State had 3 hours.
