  1. I hate you, calendar.
  2. The Nationals don't need the fans turning on Strasburg because of a dumbass in the booth. They have way too much money on the line for that.
  3. Weslye Saunders got himself suspended by Spurrier. Not because of the NCAA investigation into him, but because he told his coaches he had missed several meetings because he was meeting with NCAA investigators when he wasn't. Not that he's expected to miss the first game, but next time try to come up with an excuse that can't easily be checked out with a simple phone call.
  4. This is how all lineman who get kicked off a team should go out:
  5. He was doing it for himself, so again it doesn't count. Honestly, I went to his BR page expecting to see an OPS lower than .849 for 2004. Heck, it really came down to the last month and a half. He had a .900+ OPS as late as August 11th. Had he not hit .237/.305/.444 the rest of the way while the Cubs were in hunt for the playoffs, the front office may not have had the ability to bury Sosa the way they did.
  6. The friendly against Poland goes on sale with a presale Thursday morning at 10, and Visa presale Friday morning at 10, and general public on sale Saturday at 10.
  7. Had to put off the last 20 minutes until now. Fantastic finish at Fulham.
  8. How many plays did Urlacher get in before leaving injured? 3? He's done for the night with some kind of calf injury.
  9. Sorry, Sammy, but I think the Cubs belief that the wins will follow if you just do what the media and fans want is working just fine.
  10. Here's one Iowa columnist's prediction based on what he has heard: That works better than any non-geographic split that I've seen if you accept that a) Michigan and Ohio State will be split and b) there will be a cross-over rivalry. I'd probably have Michigan State-Penn State and Nebraska-Wisconsin instead, but I'd love to see Northwestern keep the protected rivalry with Purdue.
  11. The MWC has indicated that they're going to "work with" BYU on the TV deal to try and get them to stay. That would probably be in BYU's best interest considering what has happened to the WAC and the possibility of a path to the BCS with a MWC/C-USA championship game. And that might be in the best interest of the BCS since it may take some heat off of them.
  12. According to Joe Schad, the MWC feels better about their chances at keeping BYU.
  13. I think there's going to be some geographic component to the divisional alignment, so if Ohio State and Michigan get put into different divisions and assuming there won't be TWO protected cross-division rivalries (horrible idea with either an 8 or 9 game schedule), the divisions may very well look like this: WEST Michigan Michigan State Iowa Wisconsin Minnesota Nebraska EAST Ohio State Penn State Northwestern Purdue Illinois Indiana And that's just weird to me. I don't know which teams would pair up across divisions in that setup. Certainly not better than the standard geographic split that has been tossed around.
  14. Sources in both Columbus and Ann Arbor are saying that Ohio State and Michigan will be placed in different divisions, hoping to meet twice in one year. The annual meeting would take place before the last week of the season, most likely. I don't like this idea and I don't like the idea of protected cross-division rivalries. The Big Ten is putting waaaaay too much faith into their dream of having Ohio State and Michigan meet twice in one season, especially for something that isn't going to happen very often. When we look back at this 10 years into the future, assuming there isn't further realignment/expansion, I think this will be seen as the "downfall" of that rivalry.
  15. The rumor this morning is that the MWC and C-USA are in talks to hold a championship game between the winners of the two leagues in an attempt to get an automatic BCS berth. And while the two conferences wouldn't merge, there apparently would be some scheduling cross-over in some sports.
  16. Wow. Benson said that there was a recording error and Nevada never actually signed the $5 million buyout agreement. However, he believes the oral agreement will be enough. He also said he has no clue what will happen with BYU. He just hopes the WAC can work out a deal with them.
  17. That had to suck.
  18. Everyone seems to be jumping against the rumor and saying he's not transferring. It still sucks to be a Michigan fan right now, though. At least they have the renovated stadium to look forward to.
  19. Aaaaaaaand Fresno State is headed to the MWC.
  20. The bowl situation is an uphill battle, of sorts. They're also going into a situation where not getting a bowl invitation means no bowl money. Nevada and Fresno State were just officially extended invitations to the MWC.
  21. US vs. Poland at Soldier Field on October 9th at 7 PM. Unfortunately they picked the one night that Northwestern plays at home.
  22. Looks to be official. Ballsy move. Who'd have thought a few years ago that the BYU network would be instrumental in all of this. Or that it would be going HD.
  23. Boise State cannot be happy Hard to tell just how legit the rumors are right now. The news reports all say that it's based on several sources, but they also reference the Colorado State twitter feed for breaking the news. Bruce Feldman at ESPN just reported that it appears the Colorado State twitter account was hacked and they can't log in.
  24. Boo! I have a feeling they're going to do the geographic thing with the exception of a PSU and Wisconsin swap as has been speculated. Then they'll try to create a rivalry between PSU and Nebraska, having them play on the final Saturday before or after UM/OSU. The geographic split works so well on all levels, don't overthink this. No matter which way I look at it, a geographic split makes the most sense. And not just because Northwestern has a winning record over the last 15 years against every team that would be in the west except Nebraska.
  25. Yeah, Michigan's secondary is in really rough shape. The rumors this morning are that BYU is looking to go independent in football and join the WAC for other sports.
