  1. The weather needs to realize it's football season. It's supposed to dip back into the low 70s for highs for a few days at the end of the week, but these 90s aren't fun. The rest of this week is going to be torture. And waiting until 6:30 on Saturday might kill me. That's why I love 11 AM starts so much.
  2. Penn State released an updated depth chart today and still list McGloin, Newsome, and Bolden as possible starters. I still have no idea why teams feel the need to try and keep starters a secret like this.
  3. I saw that earlier. While they did a nice job with it, it's ultimately worthless without being able to set up cross-divisional games. There's another conference call this week to talk about scheduling. It'd be great if they could make the announcement this week, but I don't see it happening. They'd also be taking attention away from the Thursday night games, though any in-season announcement could have that effect.
  4. Yeah, for a rooftop, that view will be pretty ideal. They also just unveiled the new uniforms, too. I really like the road unis, though the Northwestern striping on the home jersey doesn't look great.
  5. Not going to be in Wrigley? They opened up sales to young alumni a couple of weeks ago. It's a group of all of my closest friends and Darnell Autry is supposedly going to be there. Couldn't pass it up. Right field or left? Right field should offer a pretty good view, but left is probably too far away. I don't know if there's going to be any construction going on for the new hotel complex by that point. Hopefully not.

  7. Much better purple to orange ratio than Welsh-Ryan. I'm interested to see what the divide will be like with the game being at Wrigley. I know there are some serious limitations in place to keep these tickets in-house for NU, but Illinois fans have their ways. If we can put out a half-way decent team leading up to this game, I'd expect a sizable contingent of orange. I honestly think it'll be 70-80% Northwestern fans, which I wasn't so sure about when the game was announced. Illinois gets their 2,000 tickets, the Cubs get 5,000 or so, and brokers and some Illinois fans got some season tickets. But from what I've read, Northwestern fans will definitely be in the majority. In typical Northwestern fashion, the most expensive seats ($150) were the first to go. I'm pretty sure they could have sold out a $500 section if there was catering included if that was an option.
  8. Much better purple to orange ratio than Welsh-Ryan.
  9. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nw/sports/m-footbl/auto_bsiwide/5652941.jpeg Still too far away. I believe Fitz confirmed that they'll be taking the el down to the game, though.
  10. Darrel Rovell is saying that a full season without Strasburg will cost the Nationals roughly $7 million in addition to what they're losing this year.
  11. I really like Welsh-Ryan. There are things that could use to be updated, particularly the scoreboard, but I'd rather see the money keep going towards other facility needs. It's a very intimate gym and great for college basketball. I really dislike NBA-style arenas and this is the complete opposite. If anything I'd love to see more wooden bleachers and fewer seatback. It's amazing for students and it gets really loud on the court. I spent my entire time there as a student in the front row just a few feet from the inbounds line. If there was going to be anything really significant done, it would probably be worth waiting a while and building something on campus. That would dramatically improve student attendance.
  12. Wow. The Nationals can kiss many millions of dollars goodbye. Darren Rovell had his value to Washington at around $3 million a season.
  13. Georgia RB Washaun Ealey was arrested this morning for hit and run and driving on a suspended license after hitting a parked car in a parking garage with a friend's car and then leaving the scene, despite being told by a UGA parking services employee that he couldn't leave. He's player #8 at Georgia to be arrested this year. EIGHT. But hey, he wasn't charged with a DUI, so that's an improvement.
  14. The NCAA investigators really could use hotel rates in the southeast states as low as the rates those South Carolina players were getting. And the latest little twist is that the tutor in question was also Butch Davis' nanny. That's not good...
  15. Weekend games with Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, and Wisconsin should make for a great atmosphere in Evanston. The weekday games are Michigan State, Michigan, Penn State, Minnesota, and Iowa. I'd say we made out pretty well. The ticket office should be happy. By the way, they just moved the home opener against Michigan State from 12/27 to 1/3. That eliminates any potential bowl travel conflict for fans and also means the students will be back on campus.
  16. Also, Texas and USC will have a home and home in 2017 and 2018.
  17. North Carolina could be in even more trouble. The school has reportedly uncovered academic infractions by the football team. They're holding a press conference tonight. And now reports are saying that roughly 9 players, including some standouts, had papers written by a former tutor and were placed on the scout team for the time being.
  18. Northwestern (home vs. Illinois 2/5 and road @ Indiana 2/19 or 2/20) on CBS?! What the hell is this world coming to? Either this is the world smiling on Bill Carmody by giving his program actual national exposure as repayment for the Coble injury/retirement or just an elaborate prank.
  19. Illinois just lost starting safety Supo Sanni for the season.
  20. I still think splitting Michigan and Ohio State is a bad idea, but hopefully it plays out this way. There isn't another setup that would work as well given what we know.
  21. I think Rittenberg has it right, though an Iowa columnist predicted it last week. The crossovers will likely be: Michigan - Ohio State Michigan State - Penn State Iowa - Minnesota Nebraska - Wisconsin Northwestern - Purdue Illinois - Indiana
  22. The Wisconsin and Iowa rivalry may very well be a victim of the alignment.
  23. The same reason Northwestern @ Iowa was on ESPN2 last year. They're contractually obligated to show each Big Ten team at least once during Big Ten play. Typically they double up in a game that nobody is going to watch, but Indiana will still be on ESPN/2 plenty this year.
  24. ESPN's Big Ten conference play schedule is out. ESPN has decided to acknowledge that Northwestern exists, giving us a total of 5 or 6 games total on ESPN/2 this season, up from 1 a year ago.
  25. Here's a good article on the Big Ten 9 game conference schedule situation. It does look like it will happen. The problem right now is that they need to wait until a time (like 2015) when non-conference schedules are open enough to try and ensure that every school is ensured 7 home games a season. It doesn't sound like they've decided on whether or not to add a 2nd protected crossover game once that happens, but they'll tackle that situation once they can set at least the 2011 schedule. Scheduling for the next season or two is what's holding up the division alignment announcement. Still, according to what Delany said a few days ago, that announcement should come by mid-September at the latest.
