He just ran along the sideline and got extra yards just before that. Right before the hit, he changed his course and made a clear move to go out of bounds. But you can't really blame the defensive player in that position for diving like that.

Great play call and run, but that's a pretty bogus late hit call. Well, actually, he was clearly going out of bounds. Still questionable.

How does that help ND? Michigan State did play well enough to win that game. They were also a bad team. That doesn't help ND's reputation much.

And if JLS had any ability to rebound from a tough loss at all and MSU had played even close to that well in future games, they'd have won at least three more games and been a strong bowl team. But then again, the devil's in the if's. The loss to Notre Dame didn't have that much to do with John L. Smith. That was almost all Stanton. Michigan State a 7 win team? They only looked pretty good against Eastern Michigan at home. That was about it. They then looked either terrible or bad during every single Big Ten game. Michigan State may have played Notre Dame well, but they were not a decent team by any stretch of the imagination. That's the point. They should have been. If you can play that well against ND, why the hell can't you get it up to play well against Illinois, Indiana, etc? That was my point. Shouldn't an entire Big Ten season of play carry more wieght than three quarters in a non-con game?

I'm all for saying ND just isn't that good. Our opponents sure seem to want people to think that based on the crapfests that GT and USC are submitting. Maybe it's just true. ND barely beat a horrible Michigan State. They've been beated by the only good opponents. I just don't see anything to justify ND being all that good. Georgia Tech is the only decent team they've played, and GT is no great shakes. I'm not even going to dignify Michigan State. You and everyone else know the Spartans played better in the first 3 quarters of that game than most teams have played all year. It's not our fault JLS can't coach a team with a big lead, nor can he recover from a tough loss. GT I'll give you, that was a rough performance for ND, but everyone else was playing I-AA teams that week so it's hard to hate on them too much for it. Maybe Michigan State looked so well is because ND just isn't that good. Maybe, but I seriously doubt it. Moo did this in 2005 too, remember - play out of their heads against ND and crap out the rest of the season. The man makes a good point. MSU did play one of their two best games (or parts of games) of the year against ND - the other was the NW comeback. If I had to guess, I would say it was a little bit of both MSU playing better against ND and ND not being as good as expected. Michigan State was a bad football team. They had the ability to move the ball on offense but rarely did. Their defense was terrible. And it took Michigan State to go out of their way to turn the ball over for ND to win it.

NU deserves a top 10 ranking by association now. Welsh-Ryan is getting a $4 million makeover next year. About half of that goes towards new locker rooms while the other half goes towards remodeling the lobby. And I sure am glad they decided to scrap the ridiculous idea of expanding seating.

Well, ND just barely got by UCLA and USC didn't look that great against ND (especially Booty's turnover fest). USC has never shown that they're a great team this year.

These refs are terrible! Blow the whistle when the penalty is committed, refs, not five seconds later. Yeesh.
