  1. I hate ESPN. I start watching the Real Madrid/Bayern Munich game this morning that I recorded and ESPNC runs the final score across the bottom a few minutes into the game.
  2. Usually, but not necessarily. As referenced above, tickets.com has javascript that can remove the URL bar for VWR windows. I don't recall them using it on Cubs ticket sales in the past, but they have used it for other events. I'm sure there's a plugin for Firefox that can disable such a javascript. There's probably one that can keep them from disabling right clicks and CTRL-N, too. They disable right-clicks, but you get the URL from T icon link. Or somewhere like that. It usually doesn't take very long to find the address and someone usually posts it.
  3. I just want to know what Cubs fans are supposed to be enjoying.
  4. If you have a record of making deals and coming to agreement, it's much easier to find common ground and make a deal. In theory if you split the gap, but that's not really what happened here. It'll get done, in my opinion, but I don't really think this is the big step towards that.
  5. I won't read any spoilers, but I must say I forgot to stay away from the AP wire... I think Colbert had it right.
  6. To say that Rivera's blitzing schemes were obviously ineffective from the very beginning would be...well, spot on. Babich was officially promoted to DC today.
  7. I'm glad they didn't go to arbitration, but this last-minute deal doesn't necessary mean the two sides will have a better working relationship regarding an extension compared to where they would be if they went to arbitration.
  8. Yeah, it's just pasting the VWR URL into new windows.
  9. TLR already knows who which two pitchers he'd bring out of the bullpen for such a situation.
  10. According to the Section 8 board, the Fire believe that they will host three friendlies this summer: Celtic, which is likely for July, an EPL team, of which Reading, Newcastle, Liverpool and Fulham were named specifically, and a Polish team. Nothing is set, though.
  11. You talking about the Bears? If so, they'll likely hire from within. The LB coach Babbich (sp?) is the leading cand. Yeah, but I'm still curious if there are any other candidates for consideration out there that are either obvious or have already been brought up. Also from that article:
  12. I can't say I saw that coming. Who are the other possible candidates out there right now? I know Singletary's name has been tossed around, but I don't see that move being made.
  13. According to ESPN.com, the Chargers have selected Norv Turner, so Rivera isn't headed to SD.
  14. Jones had a .358 OBP against righties last year. That certainly isn't bad (although .339 over the past 3 years), but the .528 slugging % does not belong in the two hole. Then again, it's certainly has to be a possibility. Just look who they have leading off.
  15. I'm not sure I'd put that quite even with the big question mark that is Alfonso Soriano, but that's at least a close second in biggest factors for the offense.
  16. Those were all Lee quotes from the first article, not Piniella. It was only a few months ago that Piniella was saying the exact opposite, as well.
  17. It would be one thing if they were going to carry 11 pitchers, but he'd be the long man in a 7-man bullpen. And Hendry doesn't exactly act quickly when a young pitcher doesn't see the mound for a week at a time.
  18. Iowa is the best case scenario. Rotting away in long relief is probably the worst.
  19. A half-way mediocre effort by Illinois and they win by 25. Any team should be able to win by plenty when the opposition shoots 15 for 50 and 5 of 23 from beyond the arc with just 3 FTAs.
  20. Hill definitely earned his time last year. He consistently put up ridiculous numbers at AAA when the Cubs flatout sucked and desperately needed help in the rotation. There was no excuse for Hendry keeping Rich in the minors for that long. Big league success at that point shouldn't even be in the picture when making that decision. The whole point was working for the future and giving him the chance to turn his minor league dominance into big league consistency. Hendry decided it wasn't worth the team's time.
  21. If Prior is "healthy," he gets a spot in the rotation. There isn't much question about that. Like I said, it would come down to Hill, Guzman, and Miller for that last spot.
  22. A half-way mediocre effort and they'd have a decent shot at this game. But instead they're playing like crap.
  23. He only pitched 22.2 innings in the big leagues in the months of April, May, June, and July combined. They gave Angel Guzman the promotion in April when he wasn't ready and Hill was. The organization has a clear history of not liking Rich Hill. I, for on, don't expect things to be the exact opposite come this season. And there is no way that he has a spot in the rotation locked up right now. Not with at least four guys fighting for two spots. If Prior is healthy enough to break camp on the 25, that leaves three guys fighting for one spot.
  24. He didn't give much of an indication that he belonged in the majors the first half of last season. Hard to say there is a "should have" there when he was getting shallacked most every time they sent him out early on. Hill at AAA: April - .149/.221/.230 with a 0.80 WHIP and 33/7 K/BB May - .245/.275/.265 with a 1.03 WHIP and 21/1 K/BB June - .180/.225/.261 with a 0.79 WHIP and 41/6 K/BB July - .170/.239/.260 with a 0.82 WHIP and 40/7 K/BB And the big league team/rotation sucked. Rothshild was never very patient with Hill, nor was Hendry. We'll have to see if that changes this year.
  25. Hill being left out of the rotation is a possibility at this point. He probably won't be the one sitting at AAA or in the bullpen this time, but it is certainly a possibility. But that's all a result of what already happened. Hendry wasted $21 million and there's no going back. The talk right now coming from the media or the organization is rather pointless, though. Cactus League action has yet to being and the outcome won't be determined for weeks.
