    The NBA thread

I spent much of the 4th quarter and OT saying "well now they're going to take Wallace out." I was wrong every time.
  2. It has now been confirmed that Garrick McGee is leaving his OC position at Northwestern to become the new QB coach under Petrino at Arkansas. The big question is how much money NU will be willing to spend on a new DC and OC right now, especially without an AD.
  3. They're easily in my top 5 favorite in all of college football.
  4. Well crap. Word is that McGee is leaving his OC position at NU for a position coach spot in the SEC, not even back to Oklahoma. This really sucks. Now we need a new OC, DC, AND AD. I'm sure Martz will have his name thrown around a tad, as there is some connection to Walker, but this is getting crazy. There's some speculation that with Nagel committing today as a "superback" to join Drake Dunsmore, who managed to be named to the Sporting News freshman All Big Ten team despite seeing so little playing time in the offense this season, that they may be shifting more towards a run-heavy offense. Who knows if that has a role in it. But I'm shocked that McGee is leaving and isn't going back to Oklahoma. There's a doins a transpirin' in Evanston. And since 2008 will see a senior-filled offense, this is not the time for a shakeup. EDIT: Apparently McGee is the new QB coach at Arkansas. This has to be the 3rd or 4th time he has coached QBs. Definitely a very strange move on the surface. I don't know of any connection he has there.
  5. Check out page 14. Raisinn lists 3-4 people who would make him hate football, Neuheisel is on that list. He did also say this, though: He'll need at least some comforting, though.
  6. Ugh. English and Roof are both headed to Louisville. I was hoping Roof would be a DC candidate for us and stay available for a while longer. Oh, well. At least we actually beat Stanford AND Boston College for a recruit this weekend, which is a relatively big deal for us right now.
  7. Everton went a man up around the 72nd minute, but a stunning mental error gives Arsenal a 3-1 lead in the 78th minute. Wow. Not a great moment for Tim Howard. 4-1 was the final as Arsenal jumps back into first.
  8. Beautiful goal by Eduardo to put Arsenal up 2-1.
  9. Vina just edged out Eckstein for 2nd in average GRIT. At least David has something to shoot for now.
  10. I'd say that's more laziness, though. If fans buy whatever popular columnists say, what's their incentive to put energy into research? Morals? Pride? An unvitation from ESPN? I must say that whoever took the several minute towel drill pre-warmup and turned it into throwing towels to build up arm strength while recovering from injuries was either oozing with ignorance or made a pretty smart move. Listeners and readers still eat that up. Of course, the answer is the first scenario, but you never know.

  12. So wrong. You forgot a little group called fans. This was on ChicagoSports.com with the included caption: http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2007-12/34438903.jpg And that caption is right. I declare fans the winner.
  13. I was holding out just a touch of hope. Sigh.
  14. Five Spartans have been suspended for their bowl game:
  15. If only the bolded part could be true for Boston, as well.
  16. It looked like Kai was preparing for a low, long FG kick and never made an adjustment to the shorter FG attempt. The line didn't do a great job, but the guy who blocked it barely got off the ground and didn't get any penetration. At least you got to watch your team last night. I spent my time during that game creating new uniforms that I'd like to see from Northwestern.
  17. That's because it was a general misunderstanding of what that agreement actually meant, though. At first, a lot of people widely believed that they sold sponsorship for the official team name.
  18. Well before the '60s. Amphetamines were widely used by nearly every country's soldiers during WWII and were circulated pretty well among civilians in the US. They've certainly been a factor in sports since at least the '50s, if not '40s. Heck, they've been a much more frequent and significant factor in the history of baseball than steroids and HGH combined.
  19. Sweet. I didn't realize that the first leg takes place during the week I'm taking off of work in February.
  20. boy first florida state and now ohio state?!?!? who woulda thunk it? I believe the starter, who was recruited strongly by Stanford, has already been re-instated.
  21. You did miss that part, and also the part about the guy we had playing 2B last year not being able to repeat his production from last year. sounds familiar to what was said about him last year True, but he'll be 33, hasn't replicated the power numbers he put up in 2006, and reached a new career high for OBP/IsoD last season. His career hasn't exactly been consistent, so I don't think it's safe to say that he'll repeat what he did last season. With that said, I'm still not much of a fan of the rumored trade.
  22. Huzzah. Kevin Coble is still on pace to return for the Big Ten opener. It'll be great to have him back. I'm glad his mom is doing well.

Gray's play was a bit awkward at times (less so that Thomas' rookie year or Noah) and he did have a few things go his way last night, but he was certainly a nice presence. I was pleasantly surprised with his play. It was also nice to see Thomas hit a few jump shots.
  24. I know it was an mlb.com site in 2001. I did a web archive search a month or so ago and took a look at some of the articles back then. I believe the site that came up was from late September before they resumed.
  25. I think I was the only one who was never banned on the original cubs.com board.
