  1. One sites view on this Stop us if this sounds familiar: a Rangers outfielder who has reached 420 at-bats just twice in his eight-year career, becomes a free agent after his best season and signs on with the Cubs for three seasons. Yeah, Milton Bradley was this guy last season and that divorce was ugly. Byrd does not have the publicized anger issues, but he is the one major leaguer who openly admits that he still obtains "a variety of pills and powders from (Victor) Conte." There's no word of the price tag, but hopefully he'll come much cheaper than Bradley. Byrd could help solve the Cubs' problem of finding an everyday center fielder.
  2. Contreras and Podsednick? Jesus.... :banghead: :banghead:
  3. Roto The Cubs are "not leaning toward" any specific candidate to be their new center fielder at this time, reports Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. The trade of Milton Bradley will allow the Cubs to move Kosuke Fukudome to right field, where he's less likely to be a liability, but it leaves a void in center. Marlon Byrd and Scott Podsednik are the team's strongest options among free agents, but GM Jim Hendry could also explore trades, possibly with the Yankees for Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner, depending on how their roster shakes out. Reed Johnson could also make sense, after the Cubs non-tendered him last weekend. Source: FOXSports.com
  4. I just posted this too a sec ago,so a Mod could delete my thread
  5. I cant beleive what has happened today and now reading this... ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports that free agent outfielder Scott Podsednik has emerged as a target for the Cubs, among another teams. Holy hell we are screwed...Screw you Hendry
  6. The Mariners are making some noise this year...King Felix and Lee is a nice 1-2 punch...All they need is some power in the middle of that lineup with Ichiro and Figgins at the top and they have a pretty good chance in the AL west
  7. Roto The Phillies, Blue Jays and Mariners have agreed to a trade that will send Roy Halladay to Philadelphia and Cliff Lee to the Mariners, according to an SI.com report. The exact terms of the deal have not yet been reported, although the Blue Jays were reportedly willing to pay some of Halladay's salary in the right trade. Lee and Halladay are both in the last year of their contracts, with Lee owed $9 million and Halladay's deal calling for $15.75 million in 2010. The Phillies are currently working on an extension with Halladay that would keep him in Philadelphia long term. He went 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA over 32 starts in 2009, spanning a league-high 239 innings.
  8. According to Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com, the Rangers have agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with right-hander Rich Harden. The deal also comes with an $11.5 million option for 2011. It's a bold move by the Rangers, who have had their fair share of money problems this year, but it makes more than enough sense. The Rangers have filled a hole left by Kevin Millwood's rumored departure to Baltimore and snagged one of the filthiest pitchers in the game. The 28-year-old Harden posted a 4.06 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP and an incredible 10.9 K/9 in 26 starts this past season.
  9. Latest from Bruce INDIANAPOLIS _ One of the more amusing sights on this late night was watching an impromptu meeting among Cubs president Crane Kenney, GM Jim Hendry and assistant GM Randy Bush. They held it in the vestibule between the lobby doors of the Marriott. Every time a door would open, the wind would rush in. The only one whose hair wasn't moving was Crane's. Crane was doing a lot of gesticulating and Jim and Randy were doing a lot of listening. Care to fill in your own dialogue? Hey, don't you guys have a nice suite where you can conduct this business? No doubt the conversation was about you-know-who, whom the Cubs have to trade sooner rather than later. Nothing happened tonight, as we were told would be the case by a couple of Cubs people. We'll see about the morning.
  10. Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports the Mariners have shot down rumors of a Milton Bradley-for-Carlos Silva swap. That sound you just heard was a collective sigh of relief from Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood. The Cubs should want nothing to do with Silva, who has been awful since signing a four-year, $48 million with the Mariners in 2007. Bradley may be on the move, but probably not to Seattle.
  11. Roto thinks Hendrys an idiot According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Cubs and Mariners are discussing a swap of Milton Bradley for Carlos Silva. If Seattle GM Jack Zduriencik pulls this off, we might as well hand him the Executive of the Year award today. Silva, 30, posted an 8.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 30 innings this past season and a 6.46 ERA in 153 1/3 innings the year before. Bradley may be a clubhouse cancer and may have had an off year in 2009, but he's not nearly as terrible as Silva. Source: Tim Brown on Twitter
  12. This just came in aysonst: Source familiar with Milton Bradley talks says no change from what we reported last night: New teams are in on Milton. But nothing is close
  13. jcrasnick: Mike Fontenot can probably be scratched from the list of non-tender candidates. It looks as if the Cubs will be offering him a contract.
  14. Dont know if anyone posted this yet... Making a pitch Cubs and Royals meet to discuss a Milton Bradley-for-Gil Meche trade December 7, 2009, 11:44 AM INDIANAPOLIS -- Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals personnel got together on Sunday night and had peripheral conversations about possible trade scenarios that could work for the two clubs. Milton Bradley would be the type of run producer Kansas City would be interested in, while Royals pitcher Gil Meche is someone they would consider trading. K.C. is looking for a run-producing outfielder and Bradley could fit nicely with the small-market Royals. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry will meet Monday with several teams he's been talking to over the last few months about Bradley. On the list are: Tampa, Texas and the New York Mets. Both Cubs manager Lou Piniella and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen will have 15-minute media sessions Monday afternoon.
  15. Lou Piniella addressed the Cubs' needs, and a certain disgruntled outfielder ... OK, sort of addressed Milton Bradley: "We need a bat that can drive in some runs and our bullpen is very young. We need some experience. I think that's what [GM] Jim [Hendry] will concentrate on." More Piniella: On his future..."I'm going to sign a 15-year extension and take pitchers out with a golf cart."
  16. Roto According to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat, the Rangers are open to bringing back Milton Bradley but aren't sure they want to deal with "that headache." In other words, they're not willing to depart with any substantial talent and certainly won't be willing to take on the $21 million remaining on Bradley's current contract. The Cubs are expected to step up their efforts to move the disgruntled outfielder at this week's Winter Meetings.
  17. I know Fox fits in the AL as DH, the only thing I don't like about getting rid of him is he's a great guy to have on the bench for us late in the game, when we all know we have a very thin bench, but if thats what it takes to get rid of Miles, then what the hell, why not?..
  18. This is just like the day when we found out Neifi was finally traded...It was a blessing..Im gonna say im more excited about Miles getting traded than the day Neifi was..Its a close battle but Miles suckiness he brings and spreads to the team and just a more hatred for him put him on top
  19. Hahaha screw you Miles...Get the hell out of Chicago..Thank Godddd
  20. Pittsburghs GM also thinks Jimbo is an idiot "As we look at the reliever market, history dictates that it is not smart to spend $3-4 million on a middle reliever," general manager Neal Huntington said.
  21. Blanco hit .247/.299/.290 in AA I know he's always been terrible offensively throughout the minors, I meant, I just hope he doesn't become one of those AAAA players who finally gets to the show and can't perform then all his value is diminished then we regret not trading, when we could've gotten Granderson for him..
  22. Im split on it, I don't want to trade him because we haven't had a good SS in the organization since Dunston and would love to have him succeed and have an awesome defender and offensive output from him, but the guy hasn't seen major league pitching yet so it could just turn out to be a bust and be a Andres Blanco type player, so I would wanna to it to someone who is proven and could help us out right away like Granderson.
  23. Roto Phil Rogers says that many in the Cubs front office feel it would be "foolish" to trade prospect Starlin Castro to Detroit for Curtis Granderson. Castro has quickly established himself as the best Cubs prospect after his showing in the Arizona Fall League. Granderson, conversely, has been one of the best centerfielders in the game (against right-handed pitching) and is thought to be available. Rogers, who writes for the Chicago Tribune, says that Cubs GM Jim Hendry "appreciates" what Granderson brings to the table and wonders if new hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo could help address Granderson's platoon issues. If the Cubs won't give Castro up in a Granderson deal, it will be extremely tough to pull off. Source: Boston Herald
  24. I don't think guys like Marlon Byrd get you to the world series...Spend the money elsewhere
  25. I'd give them Theriot in a heartbeat, then Vitters and Cashner possibly, don't want to give up Castro since we haven't had a good SS in a long, long time.
