  1. MESA, Ariz. - Cubs general manager Jim Hendry left the parking lot at Fitch Park at 11:20 this morning, apparently to head home and change into his suit for an afternoon salary-arbitration hearing with pitcher Carlos Zambrano. Minutes earlier, Hendry and Zambrano met for 2-3 minutes on one of the practice fields, with Hendry doing a lot of hand gesturing. With it appearing the two sides had failed to strike an agreement on a one-year contract, the stage was set for an arbitration hearing at 3 p.m. Chicago time today at a Phoenix hotel. The hearing would be the first for the Cubs since 1993, when they went to an arbitration hearing with first baseman Mark Grace. Zambrano is seeking $15.5 million for 2007, and the Cubs are offering $11.025 million. Last season, when Zambrano went 16-7 with a 3.41 ERA, he made $6.5 million. There was still a chance the two sides could settle their differences, even up to the minutes before the hearing starts. The Cubs do not wish to settle at the midpoint number because they feel Zambrano's side has filed much too high at $15.5 million. The arbitration panel must choose one number or the other. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=283274
  2. So I was in St Louis this weekend for Mardi Gras..I met a couple of Cards fans and they were all really nice and cool, they all told me how much they really liked Cubs fans because they are not a-holes and they really liked Wrigley Field alot. They were really repsectful and cool.I told them all thanks alot and im really looking forward to coming to the new Busch Stadium for a Cubs and Cards game. They are completely different than White Sox fans who care more about what the Cubs do than their own team and all they do is bash and talk crap about Cubs fans because theyre all hillbilly white trash.Maybe I met some of the good Cards fans, im not sure, because there is alot of thugs and trashy people down there who would probably bash me for saying Im im Cubs fan,I don't even know what would happen if I wore my Soriano jersey.I got enough of a hard time for drinking Miller Lite down there since I dont drink crappy budweiser products.Overall I had a good time in St Louis
  3. I hope they blow this season so I dont have to hear everyday about them from their scumbag fans
  4. Hendry and Zambrano's his agents were scheduled to meet yesterday (in person or over the phone) and again today. Representatives for Cubs pitching ace Carlos Zambrano met with general manager Jim Hendry on Sunday night in an unsuccessful effort to reach agreement on a one-year contract and avoid a potentially nasty arbitration hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The sides are expected to resume talks today as the Cubs enter the final 24 hours before what would be their first arbitration hearing since 1993 (Mark Grace). http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/263259,CST-SPT-cubnt19.article
  5. I don't know whether Jones batting second is a good thing or bad thing.I could see why they want him there since hes a lefty so your first 4 hitters aren't all righties. The 2 hole is all about OBP though. If he can see good pitches, work the count and get on someway.Fine.Bit its JJ and I don't see it happening.I don't get why they dont talk about solid contact hitters who always get on base like Murton or Barret for the 2 hole.
  6. 20 years old and traveling alone to see the Cubs in Arizona? Thats awsome...Im 21 and I wanna go to Arizona so bad and the Cubs having ST there makes me wanna go even more..Hey if your looking for someone to go with and split the bills..Let me know..Im dieing to go
  7. Why are you guys curious about Kerrys twig and berries?
  8. Just keep them away from hot tubs and playing guitar hero
  9. I don't think there was any overreaction at all. I think people were logically debating what should be done, but that is just me. It is true that the Z thread was nothing like the Ramirez thread-much more toned down. There was some overreaction (like there is to just about every piece of news) but not near the level of Ramirez, and most of the conversation was discussing options as CubinNY pointed out. Haha,I remember the Rameriz thread, it was right at the deadline, I thought some people were really going to cry or jump off a building those few days before he signed.I was freakin nervous about losing him,but it got a little crazy that time.
  10. This has nuthing to do with Z, but check out Sportingnews.com,pretty cool picture of Soriano front page and talks about the Cubs a little
  11. I dont know if this is posted, but merge it if you want.. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/259194,zamb16.article Speaking publicly for the first time since his televised comments Monday were reported as being an ultimatum, Zambrano also said the club since has made its first formal multiyear offer — a five-year proposal ‘‘very close’’ to what the San Francisco Giants gave free agent pitcher Barry Zito this winter. That would mean an offer worth close to $90 million.
  12. They arent terrible, but the little red stripe things on the side comepleley ruin it, really looks ugly...why cant they just stick to cubbie blue? otherwise the navy blue with the cubbie bear was sharp like the past years..theyre just trying to overdo it since its '07 but its not working..
  13. I know Soriano wears Under Armour batting gloves..No one else really does on the Cubs..Are they all going to be sporting UA things now?
  14. How much is that stupid thing behind home plate bringing in? Isnt it like 500,000 for the season? This better be bringing alot of money in.. I think its gonig to look stupid in the outfield with the ivy out there, It just dosent mix...
  15. Ahhh I dont like this..Wrigley keeps getting more and more commercialized..I know it gives us more money, but still...Atleast it's Under Armour, I have alot of UA stuff, they make sum awsome clothes and hats
  16. Jones does not have a robotic arm. If he did, we would be able to program it to be good. Lol,Its jsut weird how he throws..I dont get how the hell the rest of the league can throw normal and with a quick arch on the ball.Even 10 year olds can throw normal. But he releases the ball way to late when his hand is on its way down.
  17. Im really scared of our Defense in the Outfield..Murton is so-so, Soriano we dont know what were gunna get yet, and Jones and his robotic arm..It's real good from a Offense prospective though, Murton will hit around 20 maybe,Soriano 40-50? , Jones around 25..Lets hope Soriano can be good out there and cover alot of ground and catch everything and Jones learns not to spike the ball in the ground
  18. Sign me up for that day too...Thats the Sunday night game on ESPN..Hope he does it so the whole nation can see Only one person can sign up per day and the day Andy picked (4-28) is actually the Saturday game. Sunday is 4-29. Ill take that day, anyone pick it yet?
  19. Sign me up for that day too...Thats the Sunday night game on ESPN..Hope he does it so the whole nation can see
  20. LOL anyone remember the classic Seinfeld episode? http://www.seinfeld-fan.net/pictures/george/george_costanza005.jpg " George likes his chicken Spicy! "
  21. Zambrano is kinda looking like this guy while refering to himself in the third person http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/03/carey/the%20rock.jpg
  22. Interesting...Pierre hardest guy to strike out in the majors is hard to believe..But he only fanned 38 times..He dosent know how to work the count but he does always make contact.Unfortuantley, they are all slap grounders to second base.Just thinking, compare the strikeout rate of Pierre to Soriano, 38 to 160..Wow that is a big difference, but your getting wayy more production in RBI's and HR's with Soriano in the leadoff spot
  23. I wish there were more than one sunday night game..Atleast we got one against the cards..I remember last years sunday night game against them when barret hit the grand slam and Jones hit his first HR..That whole game felt like a freakin playoff game..that one was amazing
  24. I can actually sleep at night now knowing this
  25. Hahaha..That would be one hell of an exciting game in real life..I could see all of these players doing these certain things except Izturis..I laughed once I seen that one..Izturis in a clutch situation? No way..I hope to God he can do something for the club offensively though.
