    Roto Free agent Greg Maddux will announce his retirement Monday at the baseball winter meetings in Las Vegas. The future first-ballot Hall of Famer makes his home in Vegas, so he doesn't have far to go. Agent Scott Boras confirmed the decision on Friday. Great career and a great man.

    I agree that Marshall is very valuable since its 99.9 percent sure Harden or some pitcher with miss starts with a injury or setback which is normal in a 162 game season..He is a great fill-in..If were dumping Marquis,we are sure going to need him or someone else who will accept being a starter or long bullpen guy like Angel Guzman or whoever else that can fufill that role..Fontenot not so much since we have the flexibilty at those positions..I seriosuly wouldn't mind Fontenot at SS with his doubles and long ball power and the fact that he couldnt be worse that Theriot's arm and range at the SS position..If we can give them Vitters instead of Marshall that is fine with me since Vitters won't be here for a while since we have A-Ram here.Vitters has the talent and will be great, but it's all about winning now.Who knows,he could be another CPatt or Pie,but if its worth getting a caliber player like Peavy,you have to pull the trigger on whatever it takes.All I want is getting Peavy, a lefty RF ( Abreu/Ibanez/Dunn etc.) and having that 6th pitching spot filled with someone solid because we know someone will be hurt or miss some starts,and then platooning SS with Theriot and Fontenot would also be fine..

    I just want to get this done..I don't get how it's such a hard process.. Peavy really wants to come here..Towers and Hendry are good friends.It's a perfect match.Can't they just text or call each other back and forth with offers and counteroffers and work something out? Hendry just needs to text.." Hey Bud, lets do this, Vitters,Marshall,Pie and Cedeno,or pick which guys you like and lets get this done" or something like that..I don't want to rely on Jason Marquis again and who knows how many starts Harden will make.

    Awesome, now we have to rely on Marquis again and we know Harden will miss a ton of starts so its going to be another mess in the rotation..Im really not liking what I'm seeing so far this offseason..

    The San Diego Union Tribune reports that Jake Peavy "has created the impression" to friends that he'd prefer to be traded to the Cubs. "We're still talking to the Cubs," general manager Kevin Towers said. "They may have to redo some things." Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

    Hendry better not get Mark friggin Teahan to play RF..Thats not much of an upgrade over Kouske..We really need a legit Power hitter to fill that 5 spot..Bradley,Abreu,or Ibanez please.

    Isn't this his first year as a full time starter? I think he's commanding way to much for someone going his first full season and finally had his career year at 31..He's a injury just waiting to happen..He Had his good year on a contract year of course which I hope doesn't come back to bite us like Soriano. I'm still pissed how he showed us talent all season but then when it came down to it in the playoffs , he blew it. If we get Peavy, I'd be more than happy with him as our #4 starter.

    This just popped up on Roto Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Cubs are close to re-signing Ryan Dempster to a four-year contract. No word yet on the money involved, but previous reports had the Cubs offering him around $13 million per season. Rosenthal speculates that bringing Dempster back "would not necessarily make the Cubs less likely to trade for" Jake Peavy.

    Hes freakin crazy if he thinks Atlanta has a better chance to compete than the Cubs...Its simple, he should figure with his talent that he can take us to the enxt level and hopefully win a damn playoff game..The only reason I could see him wanting to go to Atlanta is that he was raised in Alabama and still lives there which is close to Atlanta..

    I can't see this happening. Hendry and Piniella friggin love Theriot because hes so damn gritty. No way they trade their boy.

    Arghhh just get this done..Im on here like every 2 minutes at work for updates..The owner is unloading since he needs money for his divorce..Give the Marshall,Pie,Vitters, whoever to get it done..This was just on Roto too.. The Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs have offered Ryan Dempster a four-year, $50 million contract. However, the newspaper calls $50 million "a number he should be able to beat on the open market" and speculates that Dempster won't re-sign quickly even if he does return to Chicago.

    I hope hope doesn't go to the Braves. It would be such a a letdown. He would be going to a team thats a mess and not competeing. Get the hell out of this Braves and just leave it to us.

    This just on Roto.. Just come to the Cubs if you want to come to a contender..Simple enough According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Jake Peavy and his agent have decided that they'd like Yunel Escobar to remain with the Braves if Peavy is traded to Atlanta. In other words, Peavy wouldn't want his potential new team to be weakened by the trade to get him. "One of the things we will want to look at some point is, 'Who are you giving up? How much are you weakening your team to make this deal?'" agent Barry Axelrod said. "If Team X trades three starting pitchers and a starting shortstop to get Jake Peavy, that lessens their chance of being a successful team." Peavy demanding that the team dealing for him keeps all of its MLB talent would make life a lot tougher on Padres general manager Kevin Towers.

    They need to get Peavy..That 1-2-3 is freakin sick..Then Lilly at 4 is fine,then I dont care who the hell is our 5.Even if it is that douche Maquis,but hope we can dump his salary somehow..This kinda sucks that were limite don how much we can spend..Not used to seein that with this team.

    Roto The Detroit News speculates that the Tigers "might need to consider trading Magglio Ordonez even if little is obtained in return." The newspaper adds that the Tigers may even "agree to absorb some of Ordonez's remaining money if they could gain a reliever, shortstop or catcher in return." Almost every article regarding the Tigers' offseason plans has centered around potentially dealing Ordonez because he's 35 years old and has $48 million remaining on his contract, but it's unclear how getting pennies on the dollar for someone who's hit .323/.383/.510 in four seasons with Detroit would make the team any better. If he's there for the taking for almost nothing we should definetley grab him. Move Fukudome to CF and platoon him with Reed and then just have mags patrol RF. I would love him in the middle of our lineup and he's still putting up great numbers even when he's up there in age. We definetley could put a package together for him.

    I would love to replace Soriano with him but I don't see it happening since theyre so fixiated in getting a left handed bat.

    I can't see Hendry going out and getting a SS since the whole office has their Ryan Theriot fetish..I would take Furcal or Renteria anyday over Theriot and put him on the bench.

    Haha..I know..When I drafted someone said the same thing..my team is all veterans and wouldve been all star caliber team 2 years ago..I traded for Roy Williams in a different deal.hopefully he picks it up
