  1. It's sick that Prior gets paid a million or whatever he is for doing absolutley nothing, the guy hasn't pitched since '06..Must be nice to get a million dollars for sitting on your ass and doing nothing
  2. The new owner?? David Kaplan, who is the host of Chicago Tribune Live has said that the sale of the Chicago Cubs could be done within 48 hours (from his sources.)
  3. I watched the conference a bit when I got home last night..It made me like Bradley ten times more after he said he wanted to be here since day one and it's a blessing to be a Chicago Cub..He seemed really calm and wants to put the past behind him and start a new chapter here..I never really got a good look at him batting, but man he really puts some muscle in it and crushes it..Lets hope for a really good and healthy year for him. I wish him the best.
  4. Roto just picked up on it According to the Chicago Sun-Times, those close to Cubs GM Jim Hendry expect him to restart the Jake Peavy talks with the Padres. The Padres' new ownership isn't in control yet, but the assumption is that the team no longer really needs to move Peavy. At the very least, it seems likely that a bigger package would be required in return, and the Cubs weren't willing to meet their asking price when talks concluded last month. 5. Cubs.com Switch-hitter Milton Bradley is expected in Chicago later this week to undergo a physical, and if all goes well, could sign a three-year contract with the Cubs. Bradley, 30, led the American League in on-base percentage last year while batting .321 with 22 homers for Texas. Other teams had been courting the free agent, including the Rays, who apparently opted to sign outfielder Pat Burrell. There were reports Monday that Bradley will sign a three-year, $30 million contract with the Cubs, but the team would not confirm those reports. FoxSports.com reported the deal will be finalized after the two sides work through "language issues" in the contract and Bradley passes a physical.
  6. In his blog, Bruce says the Marquis deal will be announced tommarow.
  7. Roto doesn't like the deal ESPN reports that the Cubs and Milton Bradley have agreed to terms on a three-year, $30 million contract. That was the expected amount, but it still looks like a pretty poor deal for the Cubs, especially with Pat Burrell signing for $16 million over two years on the same day. Bradley may or may not still be an above average defensive outfielder. What we can be relatively certain of is that he won't be a healthy one for long. Bradley has played in 130 games just once in his career. He's an underrated star when he's on the field, but he's not worth a $30 million commitment.
  8. Hmm What kind of options? According to ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine, the Cubs signed Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30MM contract "with some options in the deal."
  9. I'd be fine with the lineup if we didn't get rid of DeRosa..Now it seems that theres a piece still missing even the Bradley signing..It's that middle infield im not happy with.
  10. Im getting flashbacks of Jaque Jones going hitless in his first 20 or 30 AB's and getting booed..God I hope that doesnt repeat with Bradley
  11. If we can someway get Peavy now, I'll be happy and done with this offseason.
  12. Now, however, Burrell has essentially agreed, and Milton Bradley is expected to agree to a deal with the Chicago Cubs in the next 24 hours. The Rays had pursued both Burrell and Bradley, with Bradley believed to be their top choice. But when it became clear that Bradley was going to wind up in Chicago, they quickly moved in Burrell's direction. ESPN.COM Hopefully it really gets done within 24 hours so we can move on to the next thing
  13. If there ever was a year the Chargers can win it all, this is the year..No Indy or New England to mess it up of getting into the big dance..If they lose it,it'll be in the cold against Pittsburgh..Cmon Bolts!
  14. St. Louis manager Tony LaRussa isn't thrilled that the Cardinals let Aaron Miles get away to the Cubs, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We took a big hit with Miles. ... This guy was really good for us. It was paining for him to leave us, and he left, and that's a tough loss," LaRussa said.
  15. Man Sproles is quick and has some moves
  16. No one might get Peavy if this goes through.. The Arizona Republic reports that Jeff Moorad has resigned from his post as CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks in an attempt to acquire the San Diego Padres. Team president Derrick Hall was promoted to President and CEO in Arizona. Padres fans will hope that Moorad's buying of the team might put a halt to all of the cost-cutting. Current Padres owner John Moores is currently going through a pricey divorce that is seemingly dragging down the enitre franchise. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/2009/01/02/20090102moorad-CR.html
  17. MLBTR Chico Harlan of the Washington Post believes the Cubs will win the sweepstakes for free agent outfielder Milton Bradley. The Nationals made it known earlier this week that they also have serious interest in signing Bradley. But Harlan spoke to a source in Chicago who "thinks it's just a matter of time before Bradley puts on the C-- especially because Chicago just dumped some salaries to clear space for the 30-year-old free agent." Bradley is thought to be looking for a three-year, $30MM contract. The Cubs have cleared around $8MM from their '09 payroll, so they should have no problem reaching his demands. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2009/01/a_last-minute_run.html?wprss=nationalsjournal
  18. When is the new owner supposed to get announced? I hope whoever it is green lights any moves right away and say they'll dish out any money for what it takes to win..Hopefully Hendry has a plan to get Roberts or Peavy once he gets the OK since I find it hard to believe guys liek Cedeno will still be here come spring training..
  19. Probably a day or two after the Marquis trade is offical. Marquis is reportly out of the country until next week, so thats whats holding up that trade. Even when he not on the mound sucking, he finds a way to piss me off..Get back here,Jason so we can get rid of you and continue our offseason.
  20. So far this offseason.. Replace Wood with Kevin Gregg. Replace Edmonds with Gaithright. Replace Marquis with Vizcaino. Replace Derosa with Miles. Something big better happen because all were doin is downgrading...
  21. Roto...We didn't even get one of their top ten?? Jesus Indians acquired infielder Mark DeRosa from the Cubs for RHP Jeff Stevens, RHP Chris Archer and LHP John Gaub. It figured that DeRosa would appeal to a bunch of teams if the Cubs were making him available, but the Indians were able to pick him up without surrending one of their top 10 prospects. That DeRosa turns 34 in February, is entering the last year of his deal and is no longer viewed as an above average defensive infielder clearly hurt his trade value. The Indians apparently will shift him to third rather than move both Jhonny Peralta and Asdrubal Cabrera. He could be a fair regular there for a year, but the Indians would be making a mistake if they chose to commit to him beyond 2009.
  22. Heres Roto's take..I agree that theres something up money wise and we couldve gotten a better return.. Perhaps the Cubs are having bigger money woes than anyone knows. There's no standout from this group, and although DeRosa will probably never again duplicate his 2008 performance, we're surprised he didn't command more than this.
  23. So we had to cut DeRosa loose in order to sign Bradley? Why couldn't he have done it with the money saved from trading Marquis? If we don't get Peavy,I'm not that happy about all this.
