  1. Pass ball on Barrett.....run scores. 1-0 Nationals
  2. Calvin Schraldi
  3. You can always count on the Cubs to do what makes the least sense. Go figure! I didn't realize he was being sent back down.
  4. Not bad.....since Lee is out. However, I'd prefer to see Walker at 1b and Theriot at 2b.
  5. I guess Ozzie was probably ok with Juan Marichal turning around and cold-cocking John Roseboro with his bat? Here's a great one..... In 1932, Yankees catcher Bill Dickey slugged Washington Senator Carl Reynolds in the mouth after colliding at the plate. Reynolds thought it was a clean play and was dusting himself off when Dickey slugged him. Reynold's jaw was broken in two places. Dickey was suspended indefinitely. Which meant he was suspended as long as Reynolds would be out due to the injury. All in all, each player missed 6 weeks of action. Interestingly, Reynolds had to have his jaw wired in order for it to heal correctly. He almost died when he choked on his own vomit. Luckily, there was a pair of scissors in reach and he was able to cut through the wire.
  6. Chicagoan and Simeon graduate Jeff Jackson(OF) selected by the Phillies with the #4 pick in the draft and before Frank Thomas. The White Sox got lucky he didn't fall to them. He tried to revive his career with the Dayton Cubs in the mid 90's.
  7. Earl Cunningham
  8. No knock on Zambrano, but Brandon Webb has/is looking strong with another good outing against the Dodgers.
  9. I've noticed it a bit, myself. The question to be asked then is "have the players decided to take it upon themselves to be more patient, going against the wishes of a management team that is on it's way out anyway?" I suggested the exact same thing in a game thread during the Brewers series. I erased your other part cuz I don't even want it suggested as an option. It almost seems as if the players would be taking it upon themselves. When it is reported that Hendry has had talks with the Astros about Willy Tavaras then that demonstrates he is not interested in plate patience. Of course this is assuming that report is true.
  10. Note: Carlos Quentin has homered in his first major league game tonight.
  11. That error would have gotten them out of the inning I believe. He should have thrown to second for the double play. They were even playing back for the double play. For some reason he threw home to get the runner and threw wide. At that time, the score was 3-0. Instead of inning over it bacame 4-3 Toronto after that inning.
  12. How about it. For any baseball fans living in Vegas they really should go to Cashman field and catch the 51's and them. Heck see them against Tucson and you've got MLB future stars galore. Or even catch a game against Portland to see Kottaras play.
  13. I would like to see Kottaras as a Cub. This would allow him to fully develop in Triple A in Iowa next season. That leaves Barrett around for next season until his contract is up. They would have to figure which direction to go since Barrett is a free agent after next season. But, it gives them a lot a leverage at the catcher position....either resign Barrett and dangle Kottaras out there next season or vice versa. Maddux and Dempster/Howry might very well be able to get Kemp since they have so many outfielders at the moment. I think that Eithier will be sticking around LA for a while. Although I would take Eithier if given the choice.
  14. I don't really understand this trade from the Indians perspective. Why a catcher? They have Victor Martinez who is still relatively young. The acquisition builds their farm system, but I would think that they could have traded Wickman and built up the farm at another position.
  15. I'm sure he totally pwned everyone too, whatever the hell that means. I'd like to know too. I know "owned". But why is it spelled with a "p".
  16. Dempster do not walk Tavaras he is allergic to walks.
  17. Only fitting that Willy Tavaras makes some noise here. Then he'll become a Cub.
  18. I think Jacque might be getting the day off tomorrow to rest his knee.
  19. Nolan Ryan once threw 235 pitches in a game. This 120 pitch game is child's play.
  20. Was that a wild pitch? I know it wasn't the greatest pitch, but Barrett could have shifted his body in front which he didn't. It just seemed to me more like a pass ball.
  21. In other news, Detroit defeated the White Sox 2-1.
  22. FWIW, here are some trade rumblings as reported by Ken Rosenthal. The Cubs have a lot the Dodgers could use at the moment. They've reportedly expressed interest in Maddux. They have the middle relief help that LA could use. Dempster may interest them as a closer. And with Kent out Todd Walker might even interest them.
  23. So the Cubs are winless on Thursdays through half the season so far. I wonder if they have ever gone winless on a particular day throughout the entire season. Anyways, it's something to shoot for. 0 for Thurdays.......your can do it!!! Go Cubs!!!
  24. Hillenbrand will probably end up in San Diego with the release of Vinny Castilla.
  25. "Third baseman Vinny Castilla was released by the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, an unpopular move in the clubhouse and one that likely will hasten the NL West leaders' search for a replacement before the trading deadline." "Although his defense was solid, the 39-year-old Castilla was hitting just .232 with four homers and 23 RBIs." "Bochy didn't know if Castilla planned to retire. Castilla was informed of the move Tuesday night, and wasn't in the clubhouse Wednesday."
