  1. He was on 2nd and tried to go to 3rd on a routine grounder to 3rd. Just plain stupid. Thanks - indeed, that was very stupid!
  2. Can someone pls describe Theriot's baserunning mistake? I already went back and checked and there wasn't a description. Thanks.
  3. Even Marge Simpson isn't married to that loud and obnoxious of a Homer.
  4. Was that Christian Slater voicing that Panasonic ad? How far they've fallen....
  5. "I thought the Tribune would never sell the Cubs!" - Brantley That's why you never say "never", genius!
  6. Damn, I was wanting Soriano to hit one out just to shut Brantley's piehole.
  7. Why is every color analyst these days a loudmouth homer *cough*jeffbrantley*cough*?
  8. I've always wondered if Wrigley Field couldn't be downsized into a minor league park, if/when the Cubs moved to a shiny new 45,000 seat retro stadium. Then you could move the Kane County Cougars or the Wisco Timber Rattlers to Wrigleyville.
  9. I blame the New York Mets for my disaffection with alternate jersey tops. WAY too many. Gimme the pinstripes at home and the gray "NEW YORK" tops a la Tom Seaver.
  10. I'm over 40 and I hated the blue jerseys. While I'm generally happy with the current home/road uniforms, I'd still prefer it if they went back to the 1969 home/road unis. Especially the home uni - a thinner circle around the "C-UBS" logo and the bear head patch on the sleeve.
  11. Sounds like Paul is still miffed at being taken to task last year by MacPhail - didn't he get the memo that Andy's gone?
  12. I don't know if "getting angry" is the prescription, but I agree with the spirit of the comment in that Prior may fall victim to overthinking things and worrying about unforeseen circumstance. If he concentrates on the batter/situation at hand and maintains good mechanics then he'll be OK.
  13. Controlled anger?
  14. Said it before and I'll say it again, Dibbs and Kennedy spend all their time patting themselves on the back over their respective 15 minutes of fame. That is, when they're not busy waving the banner for the Good Ol' Boy Network.
  15. Soreness in his triceps, per CNNSI.
  16. Bruce Miles >>>>>>>>>> Jay Mariotti.
  17. Can I just say that I want to take J.R.'s avatar to bed?
  18. Is the J. Lansford that played 3B related to former Athletic Carney Lansford (an all-time favorite of mine, b.t.w.)?
  19. Revoking the anti-trust exemption would be mighty interesting, to say the least. I have this vision of the Pirates, Royals, D-Rays, and other teams suffering from poor attendance suddenly relocating to New York City.
  20. Very interesting behind-the-scenes stuff happened involving Vuckovich, Dallas Green, and the Trib boys (Grenesko? Cook?) at the end of 1987. After an abysmal 76-win season, then-President/GM Green seriously entertained the notion of also returning to the field as the manager. The Trib was dead against Dallas holding all 3 titles, although they were willing to let him become manager if he agreed to ceding some of his control and authority to them. Specifically, the Trib wanted all player negotiations and contracts to be run past them before Green acquired anyone. Dallas countered by electing to stay in the front office and naming John Vuckovich as field manager. In late October, a press conference was called to announce Vuckovich's hiring. Right before Green and Vuckovich were to appear before the cameras and microphones, the Trib called them into a quick meeting. Both thought it would be just a harmless pre-conference briefing, but it turned into a nasty confrontation between Green and the Trib about the whole control/authority issue. Eventually the press conference was held, but it was to announce the dismissal of Dallas Green as Cubs President/General Manager. A few days later Jim Frey was named General Manager, Don Zimmer was named field manager, and the team presidency was assumed by one of the Trib boys.
  21. Like any other institution which speciously bestows recognition to an elected few and which allows politics and pandering to taint its purpose, the Baseball Hall of Fame should be abolished along with the list of those it has previously honored. Oh, and get rid of the All-Star Game too.
  22. That's the best pic of young Josie to date, Truffle.
