  1. on the flip side, maybe more deserving of scorn are those who expect valuable content from pre- and post-game shows
  2. this basketball purgatory we're in sucks ass

  4. yo geo, don't drive hot when you're driving hot
  5. i read that boyle is hombres with martin st. louis, thus his decision to go to the rangers
  6. shawn estes had that one game tho
  7. Yep, follow the Detroit model. Sharp most definitely will be gone after the upcoming season. Hasn't the Detroit model in the hard cap era been to get worse every year? yeah, they can't get a free agent to sign there to save their lives. some suspect it's cause babcock is a hardass, others because of detroit itself. i just think they're on the wrong side of many years of sustained success (which made it difficult to obtain top-line players outside of free agency) and a lot of the big free agent gets have found greener pastures for one reason or another (going home to minnesota, playing w/buddies, money, etc.)
  8. well yeah, that's the rub. but if you're trying to protect your investment, you have to try push little changes to help take some of the stress off of the elbow (making sure it's not transferred elsewhere) and hope your coaching and instruction is strong enough help him regain some of the ball movement he'll lose
  9. that's some revisionist history right there
  10. things have really gone to [expletive] since mcdonough bolted for the blackhawks
  11. waiting for mojo to learn how to count has been a rough one on all of us
  12. it is embarrassing, but i feel the same way. it'll probably be something like castro and bryant both get hit by pitches and break their wrists at the exact same time. oh man, totally. i actually was considering researching the steel market expecting to find out that there's some historical shortage of steel because that would likely be the next thing to [expletive] this plan up Have all of the prospects travel on separate buses/planes. this plan has the makings of a bad horror movie
  13. i must have missed the detail about the new lighting; they seem really low on the horizon and could potentially impact players ability to see. hit a deep foul ball and you end up staring directly at the sun. of course, impairing vision is probably the whole point of putting them there, whether they ever turn them on or not

  15. i've got a thing for heels, and todd hundley was a great [expletive] heel i'm finding it hard to think of anyone other than theriot. his abysmal play and the cub fan meatballery was bad enough. but when he went over to the cardinals and complained about jim hendry ruining the clubhouse by getting rid of all the white guys, that was the icing on the cake ryne sandberg also comes to mind. since i never really latched onto him when i was younger, most of my thoughts about him have to do with him quitting on the team, that awful HOF speech, and the stupid things he says and does nowadays. that being said, his biggest crime is being a passive-aggressive idiot, something i probably shouldn't hold against one of the best players in the history of my favorite team in the world
  16. i doubt they would bother with it if they didn't think it would work ultimately, they need to fix his mechanics. he's got that kerry wood elbow thing going in his rotation
  17. actually, kerry wood might be a more apt comparison but i'm racist and he's not japanese
  18. i'm guessing they think the platelet thing will work otherwise they would just have him do the tjs and be done with it long-term he needs to fix his mechanics or else he'll end up like matsuzaka
  19. lots of cubs fans in mi, esp. western mi
  20. The mix is the best. I could not do WFH 24/7. I used to do one day in the office, and the rest either at home or traveling. That was the best, because you wouldn't COMPLETELY lose the social aspect of being in the office (I usually made my office day Friday anyway), but I'd get all my stuff done in the airport/on the plane or in my underwear. word
  21. also, to point FOUR, i think they absolutely do go out and overpay for an arm or two at some point over the next 2 or 3 offseasons. if something comes up via trade that they can't pass up, then i don't think they hesitate to pull the trigger. but it seems clear that if available, money is just money and we should avoid sacrificing impact offensive players for pitchers of any variety provided the need can be satisfied via free agency
  22. i've been in love with this sort of thing for a long time and i think the game will evolve closer to this eventually imb brings up a good point, especially given the power of the players' union. but as powerful as they are, i think they'll conform to the market. we can use the recent trend of long-term deals through peak ages as evidence of this so in the example of kershaw, you run him out there every 4 or 5 games for as long as he can be effective. but for those other games, you platoon the position in a way that attempts to give you the maximum utility of any particular guy in any particular situation on that note, it'd be interesting to see how workload is managed and what implications that has on roster spots
  23. that young man has great penmanship
