  1. I think that is more connected with anabolic steroids rather than human growth hormone. And homerun totals aren't necessarily indicative of performance enhancing drugs anyway.
  2. Due to a bleeding of talent over the last 10-15 years, the National League will, rather than add the DH, add a fourth, freelance outfielder. This stipulation will facilitate a three-way trade between the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees whereby the the Cubs receive Manny Ramirez, A-Rod, and Bobby Abreu for Jones, Perez, Eyre, and a player to be named way later.
  3. AKA, wasting time. All he has to do is look at Cousteau's splits to know this. I'd rather he try out The Riot batting 2nd if he wants to see how the Big Murt does in the 5 hole.
  4. Cousteau batting 2nd against a lefty? Lou should know better.
  5. I thought Uncle Jessie was married to that hot chick, and then they had babies. Oh crap, what did I do
  6. I'm spinning? Look where Furcal's right foot touches the bag. On the inside, if you don't feel like watching again. To say that if Furcal would've arrived at the bag at the same time, same speed, and 'basically the same path' is disregarding the fundamental truth that a straight line is the shortest, therefore the quickest, possible distance between two points. Was Lee asking for it by stepping in front of the baserunner's path? Certainly. Was a collision likely because of this? Yes. Would the collision have been different had Furcal taken a different path, therefore altering the time and place at which he would have crossed paths with Lee? Most definitely.
  7. Probably because he was a white cat. Can't play in the heat and all.
  8. Dear God, I hope not. I'd rather have Murton over Suzuki considering where they are in their careers and how much $ they are making. Eww.
  9. Today CSN, Tomorrow, World's Greatest Newspaper.
  10. Not only do I doubt The Dude would have done that, but I seriously doubt he would have suggested hitting the ball anywhere other than where 'the fielders aren't'.
  11. I just wish this point wasn't lost on the MSM.
  12. Seen the video, was watching the game. Was Furcal simply taking the shortest and quickest path to the base? Yes. Do runners do this often with little consequence? Yes. Do things like this happen in baseball with little onus to place the blame on any of the players involved? Certainly. That being said, Furcal is completely on the inside of the basepath, where he shouldn't be. He COULD have and SHOULD have avoided at least a major collision simply by running just to the right of where he was. Instead he ran well inside the basepath, which when combined with the defensive play ended up in him running into Lee. Stuff happens. I don't necessarily believe that Furcal would have had to miss the base completely in order to avoid a full-on collision with Lee, however, I can see what you mean. It's in the runner's best interest to tag the base with either foot in the very middle for a multitude of reasons, Jason Kendall's injury stands out in my mind. In the end, it's neither here nor there, as it is over and done with. But I stand by my assertion that Furcal was too far inside of the basepath and an apology, whether warranted or not, is beyond the character of him.
  13. The only things I suggested was that perhaps Furcal could have avoided a collision and that an apology or a sign of remorse for being involved in an incident whereby a peer of his was injured to the point the he could not do his job was outside of his low character. That's all. Perhaps instead of me kwittingmybichin you should consider engaging in a civil discussion that doesn't involve insulting other posters simply for displaying an opinion other than the one you hold.
  14. Gee thanks, I hadn't noticed. I hadn't really realized that your ENTIRE BODY must be on the inside of the base bath in order to touch first base, what was I thinking? They should get rid of that pesky rule whereby an out is called if a play that could have been made is an interference on the runner's part if he is inside the baseline. Why should he avoid a collision? Oh I don't know, this isn't hockey? He's not attempting to break up a throw to second or knock the ball out of the catcher's mitt on a play at the plate, so a collision doesn't provide any advantage, other than injuring the other team's best player I suppose. Why do I care if he apologized or not? I don't really, but showing some remorse for being involved in an unnecessary collision that leads to a guy being injured and unable to do his job seems sort of natural to me, but hey, I've never looked at a baseball diamond before.
  15. It doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother others. At a certain level, I'm interested in all teams, but am more eager to hear bad news about the Yankees than to hear anything about the Red Sox. I just like Peter Gammons is all.
  16. And a bump to this prediction. Lets hope this is correct.
  17. Exactly. And the Peter Gammons moments are worth every penny.
  18. That's a bit out there. The Big Bang established conditions. Baseball, and the interactions of living things in general, are just interactions with those conditions, not eventualities of them.
  19. My favorite is when he tries to throw that letter into the ocean. One of the best television characters ever IMO.
  20. Why should he have to apologize for running to first base. If anyone should have had to apologize it should have been Eyre for that garbage throw. Furcal was just running to the base. Yeah, just running to the base on the inside of the base path, which was the reason for the collision. He shouldn't have been there in the first place. Though, an apology for running into a player's wrist and making no effort to avoid a collision would have been out of character for that jerk.
  21. that is some tremendous bat speed!! I could be wrong, but I don't think it's the speed of the bat that is causing it to bend, it's the impact of two hard objects moving at almost equal and opposite speeds. It's wood, it flexes from the impact, not from moving in the air.
  22. I wasn't going to participate just because this movement looked healthy enough, but crotchety ol' party pooper here has forced my hand. I'm good for 5.
  23. I just don't get the Sun-Times. The tabloid format of the paper is ridiculous for a paper that wants to be taken seriously. However, while the Tribune Co. has far more news resources than the Sun-Times and its parent company, the Tribune isn't exactly known for 'hard-hitting' journalism. The Sun-Times is. They broke the Hired Truck Scandal. So, while I get my business, sports and editorials from the Tribune, the Sun-Times trumps on local politics IMHO.
  24. I had to deal with a pole two rows in front of me that blocked the pitchers mound. Which, on any other day I probably could have just ignored and watched the batter, except Roger Clemens was pitching. But, lucky for me, Old Style heals sore necks in no time.
