  1. Anyone thinking that it's a strong possibility that if Soriano doesn't have CF figured out that Lou may move Jones over to the spot full-time? Everyone seems pretty confident that Jones is going to be traded, but I don't necessarily think that it's set in stone, especially if he is swinging the bat really well and Pie isn't tearing the cover off of the ball in AAA. I suppose only time will tell.
  2. Whew. I was really looking forward to watching this game on television but I've got to work later than I was scheduled for. LUCKILY, this crappy clock radio in my office gets WGN 720, albeit static-y. What I find strange is that I get WGN 720 here in Carbondale, more than 300 miles away from Chicago, but when I went to school in Bloomington, I couldn't get WGN for s#*t. I can't wait.
  3. But, Well, it is being taken out of context. When someone asks you if you're going to ask for a trade, and you respond "I'm not going to do that, I'm just an employee, I'm under their control, etc.", and then a supposedly objective and professional journalist takes this to mean you are not happy with the organization as a whole, then yes, it is being placed out of context This is documented where? Performed at the highest level? If you're referring to a single season a full 3 1/2 years ago, then I suppose that's true. This is ludicrous. You seriously think that an organization, and especially a general manager who's job is on the line, are going to hold back a player if he can contribute more than a player currently on the roster, simply so they can hold on to him longer? Wow. While he may not want to sign, It's a moot point, since the Cubs probably won't have enough money to pay what he's asking IF he's regained his form, and would be stupid to do so with the steady stream of pitching talent they possess. Or not. Edit: I'd just like to add that Sullivan is never quite on the money with the Cubs. He is constantly belittling the fans who write in for his weekly "Ask Paul Sullivan" column. He complained IN A COLUMN about being moved by the Trib from the Sox beat to the Cubs beat. He is an unprofessional hack. His job is to get the facts and present them, not make unfounded accusations and put words into the interviewee's mouth.
  4. I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to say here. Most people are well aware that spring training and the regular season do not necessarily carry over, however, I'm a bit miffed by the "no offense" comment. The Cubs are 2nd in OB% and 4th in runs in the NL this Spring. Regardless of whether these numbers carry over into the regular season at the same rate, they are a VERY GOOD sign. Edit: I get it now, you meant to not offend Omar.
  5. If Derek Lee keeps playing like he has been he'll be the OBVIOUS candidate for MVP and Comeback Player of the Year
  6. I'm thinking your list might be more accurate, as the one Cubs.com provides doesn't include the years of 1946-51, which according to your source, are as follows, Catalina Island, CA-1951-1952(?) Los Angeles, CA-1948-1949 Catalina Island, CA-1946-1947 It seems that the Cubs moved from Catalina Island to Mesa sometime between 1951 and 1952, though your source isn't clear as to when this move took place. We should try to get to the bottom of this and then just edit the first post for a comprehensive NSBB list.
  7. Off topic, but who is that in your avatar these days?
  8. Someone posed this question in the game thread today so I did some *MASSIVE* research and came up with this In order from most recent... Mesa, AZ-1979-present Scottsdale, AZ-1967-1978 Long Beach, CA-1966 Mesa, AZ-1952-1965 French Lick, IN 1942-1945 Catalina Island, CA-1921-1941 Pasadena, CA-1917-1920 Tampa, FL-1913-1916 New Orleans, LA-1912 West Baden, IN-1910-1911 Shreveport, LA-1909 West Baden, IN-1906-1908 Santa Monica, CA-1905 Los Angeles, CA-1903-1904 Champaign, IL-1901-1902 Selma, AL-1900 By the way, Catalina Island, or Santa Catalina Island, is just off the coast southwest of Los Angeles.
  9. About 3-4 starts according to most. I'd rather just wait it out, He's probably likely to get two of those starts by the time Miller gets one. I'd rather Miller not do bad though, as to get more out of a trade involving him.
  10. For anyone with Gameday open, what is the "Civil Rights Game", and why is it being played between the Cardinals and Indians for free (mlb.tv) on the 31st?
  11. Gameday and the box score on mlb.com is listing the lineup as follows, Theriot Jones Murton Ward DeRosa Cedeno Colvin Reed Miller
  12. The craps tables are calling. I can only imagine Z gambling. I imagine Friday morning's headline might read something like this: ZAMBRANO STRANGLES BLACKJACK DEALER: No arrests made, what happens in Vegas, stays.
  13. Are you referring to the Corey Patterson that would get spooked by the wall that was 10 feet away and make no attempt to catch the ball? Man that guy was a headcase. But I understand what you mean. I just think that there's a learning curve, and Soriano is such a gifted athlete that there is no way he doesn't figure it out in the outfield. As if this statement makes any sense, I'd rather have the Fonz playing catcher than have Patterson in CF. As for Jones, I think his catching prowess somewhat makes up for his cluelessness on hitting the cut-off man, and Murton is just a bit of an oaf. Hopefully in one of these trades we will be making we can pick up an outfield defensive specialist for the late innings.
  14. ... wait, are you describing Banditos or St. Louis Cardinals fans?
  15. This defense is horrid.
  16. Random question...is that Paris Hilton in your avatar? If it is, she makes me sad. Hah yes it is. Booooooooooooooooooooooo. That's kind of funny, I was going to ask the same thing earlier, and have the same exact response. She's... yuck.
  17. I am and always will be a huge Woody fan, regardless of the outcome of his career. The man has too much good character to be rooted against. Get better soon, Kerry!
  18. D-Lee and Ramirez Back-to-Back!!! Cousteau walks. Theriot lines out to RF. Gooz sack-bunts Jones to 2b. Blanco grounds out. 4-4
  19. Fixed. (sorry, I couldn't help it.)
  20. Just hit "pitch by pitch". Are you using the old Gameday or the new one? I'm using the new one and I can't find a 'pitch by pitch' option other than the drop down menu on the bottom left where it logs what has happened in the game, and for most hitters, it simply shows (the strikezone graphic) where the pitch they made contact with, and not balls and strikes. What am I missing here?
  21. I wish gameday was giving count info, it'd be nice to know how much these guys are or aren't working the count.
