  1. Grr, no need to be specific, but are these guys getting deep into counts at all?
  2. 3 runs is a pathetic lead with the potential damage that this offense can do. Settling down by Marquis is incredibly important, actually.
  3. No way, Hispanic players always play better when it's hot outside...
  4. Jones grounded into a double play. I'll do some PBP Thanks dude!
  5. Would someone mind doing a play-by-play, not incredibly detailed, but what Jacque Jones actually did for instance. It would be much appreciated!
  6. COMMON SENSE ALERT!!! Floyd can flat out destroy the ball. But then again, I've got that man-love for Murton that seems to be going around on this board as well. Those two things being said, Murton isn't going to be hurt much with the playing time that Floyd is getting right now. This is a platoon situation, not a Matt Murton owns left field situation. Besides, in time, Murt will have far more AB's than Floyd this year.
  7. From Cubs.com: Awesome. And by "Awesome", I mean not awesome. DFA the bum! Bring Rocky Cherry up to the show. He deserves a promotion. I hope the Cubs actually try to win this game. That would be awesome.
  8. REMOTE CONTROL. Greatest. invention. ever. Color TV is useless to me if I have to get up to change the channel. No remote = way less television, perhaps even none.
  9. He also played for some pretty bad Pittsburg teams, no? I just am disgustingly respectful of the way that the Cardinals have run their franchise throughout history, especially in comparison to the monetary resources their owners have vs. the Cubs. Embarassing.
  10. Sammy Sosa in his prime was the most enjoyable and exciting baseball player I have ever seen. I will never forget the joy he brought into my life, despite the disappointment that was the final year/2 years of his Cubs career. He is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer and rightfully so. This steroids thing is so stupid. People pretend that if, IF, Sammy was roided up, he was the only one doing it. If, IF, he was, it wasn't illegal when he was doing it, and he certainly wasn't the only one doing it. People so easily forget that the steroids ban was followed by a whole lot of pitchers losing velocity on their fastballs, not, as the 'experts' predicted, a decline in HR's hit.
  11. ::sigh:: I freaking hope not.
  12. Soriano has flat out sucked at the plate. Let's hope he steps it up soon. I'd hate to see him booed at Wrigley. I would think the Fonz is still pretty far off from being boo'd thus far. I'm sure a lot of Cubs fans, including myself, are still in a http://www.spscriptorium.com/SPinfo/StanInLove.jpg kind of love with him and will cut him some slack. That's pretty much what I was thinking. Man, I love South Park. [singing in gnome voice chorus]Underpants, underpants, we want underpants, search for underpants, tay. We won't stop till we have underpants, yum tum tummy tum tay.[/singing in gnome voice chorus]
  13. Good god. Please tell me that's not a Packers banner hanging behind the Cubs one. Please. I'm a little disappointed that you are not actually Tupac Shakur, BTW.
  14. Under. I got him down for Uno. I sure am going to miss those 3 mph throws by Jeff Bagwell.
  15. Why even stick him in the pen? I'd rather see Cherry there. Just DFA him and get on with it. Maybe we could try to get something for him and Eyre.....if we throw in some sandwiches we might be looking at getting a C prospect in return. Or maybe we get the sandwiches for Miller and Eyre. That'd be pretty sweet.
  16. That's a very good point. Another reason why I don't want the Cubs to move: less day games. I understand all the incredibly valid arguments for more night games, but at the same time, it's baseball, a game that used to played in the sunshine exclusively until those darned Reds introduced lights at their ballpark. I value day games for many incredibly invalid reasons, such as more party time after the game, getting drunk in the sunshine, etc. But most of all, for a game that has changed so much but not really changed all that much, a day game at Wrigley Field is probably almost the exact same experience it was 50 years ago. That's pretty awesome.
  17. Soriano has flat out sucked at the plate. Let's hope he steps it up soon. I'd hate to see him booed at Wrigley. I would think the Fonz is still pretty far off from being boo'd thus far. I hope. We'll have plenty of time to boo him in the last couple of years in his contract. The fans treatment of Jacque last year was deplorable, at best. I'd hate to see the same happen to Sori for a little cold weather struggling. He'll be fine, he's cool. Just like the other Fonz.
  18. Point taken, but as a person with several Sox fans as friends, this would be almost unbearable. I like my friends (for the most part), and enjoy the silly things that fall out of their mouth when their Short-Man complex gets into full swing. But if they get real ammunition, I'd have to find some new friends. We may agree to disagree, but lets just say for the sake of argument than at any given game, 50% of the fannies in the seats are from the city, 50% are from the suburbs. Moving the ballpark to a suburb such as schaumburg would make the game A LOT harder to get to for half of those people, and only somewhat easier for the other half. And that's a generous ratio for suburb dwellers, as I would assume that most fans at day games on weekdays are from the city.
  19. so does murton. I'm not taking anything away from Murton... I'm just saying that I don't have a problem with Theriot coming in late in the game as a defensive replacement [although I would rather see him in the IF rather than the OF]. Matt's gonna get his fair share of playing time, i guarantee it! This whole Murton not playing enough bothers me only slightly. He WILL get his AB's. I would say that I agree with most of the moves Lou has made so far. I just can't help but laugh at the over-reacting on this board. We've played SIX GAMES. SIX. GAMES. OUT OF 162. What's that like, 4%? Settle down, folks. Lou is the new manager on a new team. It's going to take more than SIX GAMES to figure out what works and what doesn't.
  20. The biggest obstacle to this is where does the team play in the interim? Do they force the schedulers to get super creative and play 162 games at the Cell for the duration(which would be at least one season, probably more)? I'd say the same obstacle exists if Wrigley is going to be rehabbed in any meaningful sense. I, unlike some others in this discussion, don't really see playing at Comiskular that big of an obstacle for the schedulers. They seem capable enough for the most part. If there are any serious issues, the Cubs could split time between Miller and Cell-out. Some may argue that the team won't be able to establish a home field advantage if they are bouncing between two ballparks, but to me, home field advantage has a lot to do with the fans, and I certainly don't see the Cubs being at a disadvantage in this area. My only concern would be knowledge of the quirks of each stadium, how balls roll in the infield, how they bounce off certain facets of the outfield wall, etc.
  21. A dome. On Wrigley Field. There are two options I would consider acceptable concerning Wrigley Field in the future. 1) Gut the grandstands and rebuild, perhaps dropping the field down 15 feet or so to make the homerun a little harder to obtain. This includes removing those eyesore gawd-aweful chain-link 'baskets', or as Joe Morgan calls them, 'Banks Baskets' Lowering the field also, perhaps more importantly to a new owner, provides vertical space for more seating. Keeping the ideal of Wrigley's upper deck setup is important to this as well. These are some of the best seats in baseball. A third deck wouldn't be too bad either, considering how it's done. A dome is absolutely not possible as far as I can tell with this option. 2) Build a new stadium in the exact same spot. This would probably offer more bang for the buck than the first. I guess my idea here is that the new owner will have far more flexibility in the design and layout of the park and how much seating it will hold. This option allows for re-orienting the outfield, the purpose of this being to face the batter towards one of the most beautiful skylines on the planet. This is probably not likely however, as the rooftop owners will not be too happy, nor will the drivers on Addison. But then again, if the new owner wants a dome, this would be the way to do it. Moving the Cubs to the suburbs is a terrible idea. Absolutely terrible. Not only is it blasphemy, it makes no sense. It would make getting to a ballgame HARDER, not easier, for all the reason others and I have stated earlier in this thread. Plus, I shudder to think of what White Sox fans would say. The Cubs in the suburbs would give them legitimate ammunition in their "The Sox are the real Chicago team" diatribes.
  22. I read it yesterday and enjoyed it. I wish I had more to say but it seemed that the blog seemed to summarize most of the sane thoughts that I've been having. Good work, and don't worry about them not being that frequent until May, I'm sure you'll have plenty of things to talk about then!
  23. This thread is almost as entertaining as watching Rich Hill go 9 innings against the Reds with no runs and 10 k's. Oh wait, it's not nearly as enjoyable as that. Hopefully we'll be showering this thread with praise after tonight's start.
