  1. The only thing that really bothers me about this trade is that the Brewers essentially gave up a single prospect (albeit a good one) for CC. One of the best pitchers in the league should merit more than one prospect. Then, you add in the fact that the Brewers will receive compensatory picks when CC leaves for another club, and they can just add a few more top guys.
  2. I must be the only one who think that Lou's incessant use of Marmol in April, May and early June is now coming back to bite the team.
  3. Nice to see that the Brewers have to face Webb, although he has been roughed up a bit lately.
  4. This is a big, big game. Taking 3/4 is so much different than splitting (though losing to Cain and Lincecum would be nothing to be ashamed about). While Lincecum may be the nastiest starter in baseball, I think Gallagher will shut down the Giants offense and the Cubs will win a tight one.
  5. But tomorrow's lineup will include Ramirez and, possibly Johnson (though vs. Lincecum, that may not be a good thing).
  6. But he has to start hitting on the road. He's hitting .212 and slugging an anemic .288 away from Wrigley. That's not because pitchers are attacking him differently on the road. He just had flukey splits early on. His .324 OBP away from Wrigley is rising. Here are his OBPs during recent road trips prior to this series: @ White Sox - .429 @ Blue Jays and Rays - .400 @ Padres and Dodgers - .333 @ Astros and Pirates - .333 His lack of power is really the only concern and it's going to come around. How much is the question. But right now, he's doing fine. I should clarify that his "last 18 games" line is overall, not just with 2 strikes. Fair enough. I'm not really worried about Kosuke, I think he's done ok. That being said, I do think he's a bit overrated.

  8. Yeah, Kosuke really needs to adjust. It's not just that he's striking out all the time. He's looking awful while doing so. He needs to start hitting the ball away from Wrigley.
  9. I know I'm a little late here...but Derrek Lee is really pissing me off. He is flat out costing us games in the 3 hole and needs to be moved down.
  10. Yeah, at least offensively, Soto is not quite the god everyone expected him to be.
  11. If he stays healthy, there's a realistic chance that he breaks that record. :(
  12. I would guess it's partly that and the fact that 2 pitching coaches with great reputations have both just gotten completely frustrated with him because he wouldn't listen to them. I think that's mainly it. He has a reputation of, after one semi-successful year with a team, he gets an attitude that he knows it all and doesn't need coaching. That was reportedly the case with both Atlanta (Mazzone) and St. Louis (Duncan). I agree that this is the main reason. He also sounds very smug sometimes, during interviews.
  13. I don't understand why they decided to take away the extra rest for Dempster. He was still goinhg to pitch in the series. Every bit of rest will help him come September/October. Pitcing today gives him an extra start before the All-Star break than pitching tomorrow would. That's why they made the switch. Gotcha...that makes sense.

  15. I really, really, really admire your optimism. :good:
  16. Yep. I don't think I've ever disliked a Cubs player more than Marquis....maybe Edmonds through the first week of his Cubs tenure #-o , but that's the only one that comes close. He's awful in 80% of his starts, has a horrible attitude, and a bloated contract.
  17. Yeah, Bozich is a fool and a joke of a journalist. He reminds me of a poor man's Mariotti. Weber has his faults, but it was an off the cuff comment made at an Illini event and was in response to a question about how the Big Ten will stack up this year. I have absolutely no problem with it. He said his own team sucked last year. It's really only being blown out of proportion because it's June and there is not much else to talk about.
  18. I really don't think Lou likes Marquis all that much. Hendry, on the other hand....loves the guy because he has "good stuff". He outbid himself to sign the guy.
  19. Another mistake by Lou. Marquis is a headcase, it's hard enough to trust him with the bases empty and 2 outs. He is almost guaranteed to fail with the bases loaded. Hopefully, when Z comes back, this clown is released.
  20. Did Marquis swing at the 1st pitch?
  21. Maybe not quite that soon, but it wasn't all that long ago they were pinned to the mat. Hopefully they will stop their little run soon. Maybe today is a good start. Yeah, I guess they never were quite that far behind. But, they were 8.5 GB just a week and a half ago. I'm not too worried about them in the long run, but I didn't think they'd still be this close w/out Gallardo...especially with the way we've been playing.
