You mean like the power he didn't have last September when he had 4 HR's in 44 AB's? no, i mean the 0 HR's he has in his last 76 plate appearances. it's time to worry. Not only has the wrist injury obviously dinged his power, but he seems to have lost about 15-20 pounds. He must have been juicing. /sarcasm I don't think his experience with his ill daughter has made him think about weight training, is all I'm saying. And no, there is no way he's the same weight as last year. He's clearly slimmed down.

I just came in to post that the Ump is giving Wainright the most ridiculous strike zone I've ever seen. I can only hope we get the same benefit.

I really hope all the whining by Riley, Shaq and Wade doesn't get in the Reff's heads and they start making make-up calls. That would suck.

I don't see it that way at all. While it's true that a pitcher can't control what happens to a pitch once it's put into play, that doesn't mean that he's lucky if the defense makes the play behind him. It can mean that he's executing his gameplan perfectly. ML defenders are going to make the plays the majority of the time. Luck is tricky and hard to define. What about the pitcher who misses his location and gets the batter to strike out swinging? That's much more luck than allowing your teammates to make routine defensive plays. ---- Marquis didn't walk anyone today. The point is that pitchers that "pitch to contact" tend to fluctuate wildly in their performance not only due to the defense behind them but because of stadium effects, weather, and pure luck. (Luck constitutes most of it) A pitcher that tends to strike out hitters to get his outs tend to be a bit more stable in their ERA, WHIP, etc. A nice stat though, is that he didn't walk anybody. That and he's keeping the ball in the ball park, and lets hope that continues.

i don't get what you're trying to say. not making outs is very good for scoring opportunities. we still make a lot of them. I edited it, and still I think i'm quite clear. Hitting + Walking = OBP, and SLG + OBP = Runs.

Walking != OBP OBP != Scoring Runs These things help, sure, but they aren't the only thing that matters. For an example: Cleveland is 3rd in OBP in the AL, and yet 3rd to last in runs scored. Some of that is luck based, and don't even begin to think I'm arguing against OBP, but it is again, only one facet to scoring runs. (The most important one)

3-2 call on jones, he walked. Cedeno was off running, slid slightly PAST the base. Eck made a big deal about it, and because eck was able to slightly push C's foot off the bag as he was PAST the base. Big C was called out. C is doing very poorly but the more I think about it the more we've gotta get back at them by winning. Cedeno just slid past the bag. As much as I would like to rip Eckstein for something, all he did was tag Cedeno and keep the tag on then point out that Cedeno's foot came off the bag. Sure he whined, but any infielder would have in that situation. The umps made the right call because Ronny screwed up. Also, Eckstein is a midget with albinism.
