  1. You have to admit its mind boggling that a guy with as much power as he has (33 homers in a down year with time missed) only puts up an OBP of .337. Seriously, he needs to parlay more of his at bats into walks, but considering he's on the other side of 30 its not like he's ever going to change. (How did he have an OBP of .350+ last year though?) Its really hard to be satisfied with a .337 OBP from one of your top guys, but Soriano comes close. (Especially at the top of the order. :( And with Theriot batting second, we are really shooting our offense in the foot every game) If I had to give his performance a grade this year it would vary from B- to B. But again, as a poster said- this is just year 1 of a 7 year deal. Bleh.
  2. I for one, am extremely happy that we are ending this ridiculous offensive era of baseball. The mystique of the 50 home run year has all but dissapeared, and its something I never properly experienced. (my brother always tell me how crazy it was when Cecil Fielder hit 50 and no one had done it like 25 years) 40 homers should be a monster year by any standard, and for a little while players hitting 35+ with decent OBP/SLG had "down" years. (Think of A-rod last year!)
  3. Quite the understatement, no? Braun: 321/366/632 OPS+ 152 Tulo: 289/359/475 OPS+ 108 That's basically the same as saying that Fielder is slightly better offensively than Mark Derosa. Let's not let facts get in the way of my argument, please? :-) Regardless, I'd still rather have Tulowitzki on my team. I'd rather have Tulowitzki on my team because we have an offensive hole at SS and...quite the opposite at 3b. I really think Lou should win manager of the year. I'll be the first person to say that the manager means very little, or at least a lot less than most people think, but Lou definitely made a great difference this year. Given the roster and resources this year, does Dusty get us to the playoffs? Absolutely not.
  4. We need to have a playoff. As many as 8 teams every year should be in contention for the national championship every year. Also why is Wisonsin and top 5 team and not Ohio State? They have exactly the same credentials.
  5. The Bears are going to lose BADLY to the Lions. This is incredibly depressing. At least the Mets are getting crushed. Go Phillies!
  6. I love it, go buckeyes. Even in a down year they are the most competitive Big Ten Team. Also, go Illinois. We gotta get a bowl bid this year.
  7. I'd rather see Hill than either of them. Coming out of the bullpen? Oops, read that wrong.
  8. I'd rather see Hill than either of them.
  9. They may be the hard hitting youngsters, but they are still the cubs. get a man on third and we have 3 strike outs in the inning. also, man it would be nice to see a no hitter.
  10. God how I wish Soto's hot bat continues into the postseason and beyond.
  11. They need to step it up in the MAC and not just lose those close games to tough teams. What grade is that QB of yours? Well, he's got 14 TDs and 2 interceptions this year, and one of those INTs was tipped, and he's thrown for about 1400 yards in 5 games. If we play like we have the last two weeks, we really should win out and go 10-2, including Illinois and Indiana. Bring it.
  12. Northwestern lost? God damnit guys.
  13. I'm not sure who was the worse QB on the field, Juice or Anthony Morelli. Fortunately for Illinois, they figured they should just run the ball all of the second half, and Penn State just kept passing. Did Juice get benched or did he get hurt? I think McGee needs to be the starting QB. I'm pretty sure he was benched. McGee did go 0-3, but he had a huge 58 yard run that might have clinched the game.
  14. Not looking foward to that. I want Pat Devlin now. Disappointing, though a lot of credit should go to Illinois. I had a feeling we might lose. We shoulda won, we are the better team overall, but Illini played better today. It was a really well fought out win. It seemed like on first down you guys always had a big rushing play and then would follow up with a few incompletions. The game plan was poor. Juice...his statline looked pretty bad, and he made some real boneheaded plays, and honestly I don't like the gamecalling for him. Lots of drop offs and screens, and nothing that takes advantage of his arm strength. One of his picks was off a receivers hands, another was one of the absolute dumbest plays i've seen a football player make. Our d-line got no pressure, by all rights with a better QB you coulda picked us to pieces. So many balls my Morelli should have been picked but our Db's wouldn't turn their heads. I don't know if I buy that PSU is that much more talented than U of I. We have some serious speed.

  16. Just got back from the Illinois game, WOOO WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. Helluva game, our defense definitely came up and got away with some poor plays with some great picks. Our offense pretty much disappeared in the second half, but [expletive] I'm so excited for Arrelious Benn, great Td reception where he somehow got away from 4 players and a wonderful kick return. Our special teams was dissapointing in that we couldn't come up with a good punt all game. How hard is it to punt the ball >30 yards? It could have cost us the game. Wow, what a game, amazing to see the players run into the stands, I really wanted to storm the field but there were cops all over teh stands.
  17. The best part was gail sayers (?) complaining about her eyes.
  18. I"m enjoying all of these Big East "powers" getting upset. Cincinatti to win the Big East?
  19. Can the padres please get out of this.
  20. Fontenot has absolute no approach at the plate.
  21. Corey Hart are you serious I swear to god I wish I could inflict some sort of physical injury on these guys
  22. I somehow don't see him getting a triple...this year.
  23. As great as Z has been the last few starts, this is against the Pirates and the punchless Reds. I'm not saying its been great that he's come up against teams he should shut out, but we're gonna need as good an effort against teams with really effective lineups top to bottom.
  24. Love you Z! People all over the forum were abandoning you, but I've been at your side all season.
