    You take that back about Rex. He was magic. Rex was really fun for 2006. Even though you could see the walls closing in on him by the end, that was just such a fun year. The Seattle playoff game...the New Orleans playoff game =D> Heck Orton wasn't without his charms. He had a legitimately decent year in 2008, but the hip injury sorta knocked him astray and you can't turn down the chance at Cutler. Oh well, strange, weird, sometimes fun times. :hello:

    God I forgot just *how bad* Kyle Orton was in that 2005 rookie season. They had 166 yards and 11 first downs in that whole game. He had a 59.7 rating on the year. And it was a huuuuuuge citywide argument on whether or not Rex Grossman should take his job back when he got back from the injury. (Of course Grossman was similarly unproven) ((And Bad)) I've never been more grateful to have Jay Cutler on the Bears than by looking back at these teams. Yeesh.

    Reminds me of every Redskins game of late. They are never anything special but a bad fit for Bears. RGIII could rack up a ton of fantasy points. Oh god the 'Skins. I remember the first game Kyle Orton started, he almost pulled it out, but then I believe Fred Miller and company had 3 false starts in a row, led to an insane 3rd and 35 or something, and they lost to Washington without giving up a touchdown. Then you had that horrible awful, still killing me, Todd Collins game. You can't lose that game. Some part of me thinks the reason Collins was picked up as a back up was because of this game. Doubly awful. And the 2010 game. No excuses to lose that one. Donovan McNabb was terrible, the Bears were running up and down the field, and Cutler just had to throw the most inconvenient interceptions ever. I believe Hester also had a game winning kick off return waved off. So Washington has been the source of some really, really, really painful losses recently. Also, change the name already, god.

    I should probably feel worse about this game than I currently do but I'm just so enthused to see a competent offense on the field. Yeah, during he game I was screaming my head off at the defense unable to do anything at all to stop an 0-5 team but the Bears offense looked positively *professional* and that makes me so happy I can't even express it. Yeah they only scored 3 points in the second half and it was against an atrocious defense but they executed, putting together long impressive drives. If not for some weird calls here and there (inside wide receiver screen on third and short? I know why they were trying to run screens all day but, odd) and even without a truly productive running game Cutler was on his game tonight. Encouraging. Defense is a dumpster fire. Someone get off a block, please. I agree with an above poster that there were some curious no calls of holding but even so, that D-line, my god. No matter how good of a back 7 you got (and the Bears got some problems there anyway) without some pressure you are just boned in the NFL. But this point has been belabored for weeks, who knows what can't be done at this late hour.

    Defense has given up 23 points (3 of them on a 5-yard field). I'm thinking of the year to this point Obviously 10 points wont win you anything in this NFL anyway. Its a messy game for the team all around EDIT: What happened? My feed died

    i still really like what Trestman is doing. Too bad about this game, and its too bad the defense is kinda...in shambles. And the special teams has decided to become really awful. It'll be an up and down year all year i think. Blergh, oh well. its a good foundation.

    The Saints pretty much get 6-7 yards guaranteed every first down. So...thats hard to really stop

    this game is making me sick. for some reason its way more painful than the Lions game, maybe because theres *some* life in the Bears, but they refuse to do anything with the chances oh and this is the first game where the Oline has look just *bad* the entire time, just awful

    I don't know, without the turnovers it's just horrible wide-open receiver after horrible wide-open receiver. They'll need to blitz. No question. But Tucker has got to have the right strategy with it. If he over-uses it, it could get really ugly. People are gonna get their yards now, this is the NFL. Brian Hoyer gets 300+ yards and its no big deal. You gotta get home on those blitzes, and the offense has to score and be consistent. There were what, at least 3 times they had Roethlisberger dead to rights and couldn't bring him down? It was frustrating.

    This game had a decidedly Lovie Smith flavor to it. Started off all great, the offense was moving, but then it completely dried up and it seemed like Cutler himself lost some confidence. The playcalling got really conservative and a few missed opportunities (that Brandon Marshall drop was KILLER), but glad they could pull it all together at the end. Interesting that they defense started off blitzing and pretty much never took their foot off the throttle. They are aware they can't generate what they need from the front line itself, and it really mostly worked. Sure the Steelers got their yardage, but they turned the ball over because of those blitzes and Roethlisberger, while making some big time throws, also missed some really easy ones. Overall, given the situation they have, they pretty much have no choice but to blitz. Hope Melton's ok too.

    oh god that 2002 team, i remember it all too well. I remember watching them bottle up Vick in the second game at a department store while looking at all the huge TVs for sale, it was glorious. Then they lost like every game after that.

    What's the record? 11, Blair Walsh and Tony Zendejas. And, well, now Robbie Gould. Also, Robbie Gould is now the most accurate Kicker in NFL history for FG 50+ yards. Who would have thunk it? What made Lovie think that Gould couldn't make these? Heck for those first few years he wouldn't even let Robbie try them. Real talk, it almost feels like Robbie's leg has gotten stronger as he's aged, his kick offs were never all that impressive when he came into the league (granted the rules put him 5 yards back) and he just overall didn't seem to have a lot of oomph to his kicks. He does now. Maybe its a confidence thing.

    Agree in broad strokes with what UMF said, I'll also add I saw Briggs miss a couple tackles in particularly galling fashion. I don't remember the last time I've seen him wildly throw himself at ballcarriers and not solidly take folks down, hope its not him losing a step. Also Peppers was completely non-existent, and I know there's been rumors he's been playing semi-hurt all summer, who knows. :beg: Still, the offense, while it started off slow, really delivered when it mattered, and the weapons of Forte-Bennett-Jeffery-Marshall is pretty exciting.

    Well like Boers says, it looks like he's at least LOOKING at the same roster as we are, unlike Angelo, and he's trying to nit it together through free agency so...improvement? *coughs*

    So I take it...not good? I didn't read or hear much about him and it looks like there was already a run on OLinemen (though its a deep draft), someone compared him to a project like Shea Mclellan, which is definitely NOT what we need there. Oh well at least they took an Olineman.
