  1. I haven't been able to watch the games Schwarber has caught, how does he look? Does he seem particularly incompetent?
  2. I probably dislike Skip Schumacher more than every other MLB player combined I hate that little flea with my entire being
  3. How do you justify sending Schwarber down after what he's done in the majors? He's been magnificent Send literally anyone else down, and play Schwarber anywhere
  4. The old argument was offense was up because there weren't enough good pitchers due to expansion. But we can actually locate what's causing the run environment to depress, its not some mystical thing that we can apply to whatever we like. The strike zone has expanded (down) and there are more pitchers that can throw harder. The latter might be affected by expansion a little bit, but the former will be completely unaffected by expansion and the availability of talent. So at the end of the day there'll just be more teams requiring more position players that can't handle the expanded zone.
  5. A couple of pages back but also think how expansion would affect the run environment. It's already hard enough to find competent bats now, stretch talent in the league with 2 more teams and we'll see an even more depressed run environment.
  6. Hmm...Reds' pitcher has bad stats but decent enough peripherals. He'll shut out the Cubs

I have no idea what the minors look like right now. Are there any potential 2B other than Baez that are of replacement level available? Because I'm fully in favor of "Move Russell to SS (an immediate boost in defensive value if nothing else) and find Anything to put in 2B" I also recognize that this wont happen
  8. its dope the Cubs are scoring some runs, too bad Richard is just itching to give up a bunch as well Still, very cathartic to see some rallies
  9. i'm so happy about the Schwarber catching news its so ludicrous but i love it

I've been on #CastroDoubleWatch and #CastroWalkWatch because he is so, so bad at these things. I just like marveling at how shockingly bad he has become at certain phases of baseball. Castro has 374 plate appearance this season, and has 8 doubles (eight? EIGHT? this is Scott Podsednik-esque) and 15 walks. David Ross has had 95 plate appearances and only 2 fewer doubles and 2 fewer walks. Jorge Soler, who I imagine will never have much discipline in his approach, has had 121 fewer plate appearances than Castro, and astoundingly, has 2 more walks than Starlin Castro. Addison Russell, a struggling 21 year old who at times has appeared completely over his head, has twice as many doubles in 100 fewer plate appearances. He has 7 more walks!
  11. Can we have an all-offense no-defense lineup please. I don't care if Schwarber has 5 passed balls and is terrible at framing, I want offense. I don't care if we lose. I want offense.
  12. Schwarber is coming up as well. I'm concnerned that as pointed out by some folks already, Kris Bryant wont be able to do much (this season) about the slow and inside strike zone that umps are giving pitchers lately. They've pummeled him there and he can't do much with those pitches. Thats not to say he wont be a valuable player, but I'm not sure he'll have an "explosion" this year, but I wouldn't discount it. He's gonna grapple with pitchers constantly adapting to him. s

i sincerely don't care about his attitude and not running out fly balls like, at all. I just notice he hits below a replacement level player and plays poor defense at short stop so you might as well plug a replacement level player there that can play *good* defense. Whether such a player exists on this team, well, I dunno. These are feelings of a fan and not like, a general manager who's serious.
  14. theres no such thing as momentum in baseball imo
  15. if you're gonna be a bumslaying team at least slay the bums you come across this team is solidly above average and will come back to form as some of the players get out of slumps, but god they're hard to like right now
  16. tbh at this point i'm rooting for the Cubs to go 27 straight innings with no runs against the majestically bad White SOx
  17. lol if this team loses to the brutally awful white sox
  18. Not only do they have a positive run differential for a team 9 games under .500, they actually 'should' be 11 games over .500. Astonishing. I was browsing Baseball Reference and while looking at the Cubs pitching staff I saw Kyle Hendricks, with a 3.81 ERA, is rated at 98 on ERA+, which says so much about the run environment in baseball these days. Like, just a mere 5-6 years ago, that ERA would be more than respectable, heck, qualifies you fo a solidly above average pitcher. Bring back steroids is my IMO, IMO.
  19. a split with the st louis cardinals is like a minor miracle and i'm very happy with their performance i didn't watch game 4 though so it probably colors my optimism
  20. That might be an even worse decision. i was really looking forward to this season
  21. i think its easy to assume every game against the cards is an automatic loss, and take any win as a very pleasant and uncommon surprise i just am not impressed at the talent level on the cardinals. no real outstanding hitters. just the one molina brother that is shockingly young for how long he's played and will never leave
  22. i feel like congress passed a law mandating that the cardinals can never lose again but i can't find any record of it
  23. I almost refuse to believe this is possible. Only 2 series sweeps in the last 100 years? Seriously? They've been bad, but that bad?
