  1. Honestly maybe I'm nuts but I would have liked to have seen where Heyward could get on that single too, the throw wasn't all that great and he was slowing down as he hit third.
  2. Damn, I get on the bus and miss the entire bottom of the 3rd inning. I do like it when we bat around the order.
  3. Someone tell me what happened on the Russell double I'm confused
  4. just realized not only did this not jinx someone, but it has reversed counter jinxed Schwarber, who was absent from this picture for some reason
  5. personally i think dropping *expletive* on waveland is a perfectly acceptable way to live
  6. When I was in Vegas a month ago I was really thinking about putting some cash on the Cubs for the WS just for fun (woulda been like $100) and I'm kicking myself cuz I'm sure the odds are waaay less appealing now
  7. It looks great outside. They'll get this one in I think.
  8. does thom york have a problem with the Cubs defense? oops, wrong thread you don't have to apologize because now i'm listening to a cool radiohead concert at work
  9. Yeah I don't think there's any way we could keep a team BABIP against of .251 all year, but I also have no idea how sustainable those things are But thats looks extremely low EDIT: Just taking a cursory glance at Team BABIP Against and in the last 5 years no one had lower than a .274 for a whole year and it looks like it sticks between .280-.320 or so
  10. aww he's just trying to fit in and learn about the Cubs. Lets be nice to our new friend. :D
  11. If anything, I think my eye test overrates Bryant. I feel like he does pretty much everything great over at third. Yeah it feels like he gobbles up most balls hit to him and only has problems on some routine plays I also get irrationally angry when La Stella is over there and misses balls down the line, which probably plays into my emotional attachment to Brynat at third.
  12. By the way, Bryant has already got us half a win from his fielding alone, and is on pace to be better than last year by Fangraphs (though nearly half of his innings have come from the outfield this year :( )
  13. My mom apparently knew Steve Stone in college, he was dating a friend of hers. Anyway, I find him pretty annoying now, he's tooootally smug even when he's just flat wrong about stuff. And everyone has this reverence about him, like he's a walking Baseball Encyclopaedia, and he just isn't. Re: our defense, its really good. Bryant rates out very well, Fowler has been great since he's been told to not play shallow, and Zobrist has rated out very well even when he doesn't look spectacular. (Though this year my eye test is not giving him a good grade, but I also know not to trust your eye for defense solely. On Fangraphs, for the year, he's positive) So we're talking about a defense that, when Soler isn't it, is either average or very positive at every spot on the diamond. That's pretty good.
  14. Its so great to see the team thinks the same way we as fans do. I love this [expletive] team.
  15. :bye: Most teams have to play doubleheaders every season though dont they? *quickly googles to see if the 2001 Mariners played a doubleheader at all*
  16. How angry would Wrigley Traditionalists get if they build a retractable roof over Wrigley? Maybe one day they'll "renovate" Wrigley like they did Soldier Field, i.e. completely demolish it and leave just some outside stuff and drop a spaceship in the middle of it
  17. Blergh, I can't complain too much if this one gets canceled after yesterday, but tomorrow is looking bad too so I have no idea how they're gonna make up so many games. Would be nice to get 3 days off out of 4 to get everyone up to speed.
  18. I remember when we first heard of Bryce Harper it was like "This 15 year old is hitting 500 foot home runs!!" and I was like, well, thats cool and all but can he actually play baseball? So this dude is the next Kyle Schwarber, clearly
  19. I think being really, really good does a lot, but just not as much as people think it does. So there will be 8 teams left after the wild card games, and all things being equal, each team has a 1/8 chance of winning the World Series. Currently, 538 has the Cubs at 23% to win the World Series, and Fangraphs has them at 19% to win. 538 has them at just about double the chance of an average playoff team to win the World Series, Fangraphs has them at 1.5x the chance. Which is quite a bit. It just means there's still a 75% chance something stupid happens and they die. Which, well, is unfortunate, but its 3 short series in a row that determines this thing.
  20. i find the whole over-the-top camo oo-rah thing really distasteful so thats what I marshal when I want to dislike them for something
  21. God this lineup will be even more ridiculous once Montero comes back and Sczcur is sitting on the bench
  22. Sometimes its fun to just read a big ol celebration of your team And this article neglects to say that even as Tommy La Stella and Matt Szczur and others come back to earth, Jason Heyward and Miguel Montero are gonna come back and contribute Awww yea, that feels good Addy having a .360 OBP with gold glove defense is definitely something I'll take for the 22 year old. God bless this team.
  23. Yeah, the other sports forum I frequent horsefeathering HATES Cubs talk and everyone is totally resentful about it. And its only been 1 year. It's only gonna get worse. I dunno if I see a 90's Yankees run (nothing can guarantee that kind of playoff success), but I do see at the least a 2000s Cardinals run, a decade of excellent teams that all get into the playoffs and at least snagging a couple. Which is nice.
  24. It'd be cool to get to 100+ wins because this team hasn't won 100 since the 1930s, but beyond that...I'd almost prefer if they just rest dudes down the stretch even if 116 is within reach. Not everyone will agree with me, and thats fine, but that's proooobably how I'll feel once everything is wrapped up in late August. EDIT: Baez with his finger in the air is now my work computer's background, thank you Banedon
  25. lol at Hendricks doing the best he can to look excited about something
