  1. Hot damn it must be nice to be a professional baseball player
  2. I've been at a conference all weekend so I missed most of the whole doom spiral against the Mets but the best way to talk anyone down is: as long as this team makes the playoffs as a division winner everything's good. It's all a virtual crapshoot anyway, and the Cubs are >95% to win the division. The struggles have been annoying after the otherworldly start, but there's time in what remains a basically extended preseason to tweak and fix and acquire and do whatever else you can do (which is very little) before the playoffs.
  3. This at bat isn't emblematic of everything, but boy we've seen so much soft contact from Heyward
  4. Blergh every at bat is like 10 minutes long which extends the pain It's ok though cuz the Cardinals are probably gonna lose
  5. Anytime you think that, you have to remember that Nationals game That Nationals game
  6. Can we *not* lose another game we led by 3 runs late again? Please? Like if I ask really nicely? So much inexplicable there. Why? I only have why's?
  7. I get why Peralta is on the roster, we've had injuries and have had few options, there's just no reason for him to ever get in a 2-run game with a runner on late
  8. See I don't know why any of that was necessary Why did we have to be subjected to this guy not fooling anyone
  9. Joe really likes to give bad new veterans high leverage games to start off with, I dunno why he does this but he does it Let the bad pitchers pitch in relatively meaningless spots to start off with, my opinion
  10. RBI is totally and completely meaningless but it's hilarious that Bryant already has 60 and we're not even halfway through the season yet
  11. It appears that Lackey has lost any and all control
  12. in 420 PA nice
  13. At least when Montero leaves and we lose his total bizarre weirdness, we'll have Javy's weirdness
  14. Wow that Mets lineup is real bad Whats a "Nimmo"?
  15. Coghlan has struck out in 1/3 of his PA and has a 69% contact rate with the Cubs Fair point! His .372 OBP and a handful of lineouts made me happy, but anecdotes aren't laws. This indicates this wont last very long!
  16. I really wouldn't mind having Coghlan around because he's come back and looked really good and has had a nice OBP and walk rate with good contact
  17. I want to start a Reds Appreciation Thread
  18. Pitchers are disappointments waiting to happening. do not let yourself get excited over them. Be gracious for the time they give you, and get many many dongfull position players to bring you happiness and love
  19. I wouldn't say I'm a denier per se, I clearly get and see how he's valuable as the current player he is. His at bats/approach just frustrate me when a 2-3% increase in the right direction on his BB and K rates could make him something really special and it's frustrating because all it seems he has to do is not be a godless hacker up there to correct that. Yeah that's the thing. If he can accomplish a few changes in his approach and he can go from a valuable starter MLB player to a perennial All-Star And there he hits another double. Nice.
  20. There's been some debate over whether or not plate discipline is really "teachable" though, hasn't there? Certainly some tweaking can be done around the edges, but as far as I've gathered, the type of hitter you are is who you are going to be. (And has to do with all sorts of natural talents, eye-sight, swing style etc.) I dunno, obviously no one is expecting Javy to make huge changes in his approach and be a Ben Zobrist, I think whats encouraging for me is how much more contact he's making, because he's always going to be a hacker. Just gimme a Vlad Guerrero otherworldly type hacker, IMO.
