  1. No argument with what you say, except: All this stuff about the defense being so tired. They're too tired, can't get it done. This was never an acceptable excuse before. If they get too tired, then that also means they aren't as good. They used to get it done IN SPITE OF being too tired. They got older, and beat up. I mean come on...the D carried this team during the Super Bowl run, and the best parts of the last 9 years or so at a minimum. Now the defensive stars have aged and dealt with injuries, and really we haven't had any new young defensive stars emerge. Some nice players, but Briggs and Harris are really the youngest "stars" that we have on defense. I don't think it's a problem to admit that they might just not be up the task of carrying the team at this point the way they have in the past, and that Cutler helping bring a better offense into town will help mitigate that.
  2. This guy has been filling in with Zach Zaidman in the mornings the last couple days, and it's a rare coming together of two morons. I don't have a problem with what he said. Strategic bankruptcy is a tricky thing. Using it to get out of obligations you have the ability to pay is morally questionable. But that's not really what they are doing here from what I'm understanding. They're doing it to get out of liability for some of the Tribune's debt. It's really a way to sever themselves from the Trib's finanacial mess. Unless I'm misunderstanding it. No, I understand that, what I'm saying is it's not like he was saying, "I had no idea they were broke", he's questioning the legality of declaring bankruptcy to get out of legal obligations, which I think is a defendable position to take. What does being profitable have to do with that though? To me that was implying that they were trying to get away with "playing broke". Maybe I'm reading too deeply into it. In any case, since the Cubs owner had already declared bankruptcy nearly 6 months ago, and I don't believe have come out of it yet, I'm not sure why it's an outrageous thing for the Cubs to do as well.

I'm fairly certain they broadcast the tourny live. It ends in the early afternoon here. Yep. And really it's only Carnoustie that's dreary looking, imo.

Well I won't be tuning in. They'll still broadcast on the HD channel, just in SD..."upconverted" so that it will fill the screen.
  6. ROFL For a commodities trader, he doesn't understand money so well, eh? This guy has been filling in with Zach Zaidman in the mornings the last couple days, and it's a rare coming together of two morons.

The Open will NOT be in HD this weekend. http://blogs.golf.com/presstent/2009/07/dont-blame-abc-for-no-hd-broadcast-of-british-open.html?eref=sihpT1 Basically ABC and TNT have to use the BBC feed, and the BBC is only broadcasting in standard def.
  8. I was just coming here to make fun of Pete Prisco on Sportsline for saying something similar... I really think that having the offense on the field more, and give the defense more time off (and not asking them to carry the team and do the bulk of the scoring) will help the defense...not to mention Lovie doing the play calling.
  9. What a pansy. :D
  10. Thanks for that. A lot more meaningful analysis than what Joyner came up with.
  11. I'm guessing you don't have to listen to rival fans all day long like some of us. You can only tune out so much. Wait, you were serious? I thought you were being sarcastic given my response to similar comments a page or two ago. Really, who cares what fans of other teams think? Especially about this? I mean if they wanna give us crap about Soriano, or Bradley, or whatever, that's one thing. But "ooooh...your team is declaring bankruptcy as a method for removing liability before an impending sale of the team"....yeah that doesn't really sting.
  12. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?post=4321301&name=dickerson Greg Olsen talks about the WR's, and also Urlacher...which I thought was exciting... Man I hope he's right. I admit I'm skeptical though.
  13. 1) Mariotti is not a beat writer. 2) It's possible to dislike Mariotti and Sullivan at the same time. I can personally attest to this one.
  14. If they back out of player contracts, how can they lure big name free agents in the future? Unfortunately I don't think they'll be doing anything with those.
  15. Chapter 11 bankruptcy does not mean "out of money". Chapter 11 is debt reorganization. Tell that to the throngs of Cardinals and White Sox fans who don't know any better. This is kinda embarrassing. I know it's all for show, but it doesn't look good. .....Wow...who cares? If this is the best thing for the organization, who cares what Bubba from Hicksville, MO thinks about it?
  16. Cutler has the skill to make his chances pay off occasionally. Grossman relies almost entirely on prayer. :)

  18. Tampa Bay released Griese today. Bring him back for backup duty?
  19. KC Joyner is not impressed with Cutler: Sorry, Bears Fans, Cutler Isn’t the Answer The guy is supposedly a "football scientist" but then he starts comparing the records as starting QB...ugh.
  20. I'm guessing Hart would go back down rather than Harden being DL'd. Hart is already down Ah...yeah...forgot about that.
  21. Hard to say for sure from this photo, but it doesn't appear to be a hooknose situation. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2009/07/13/2009-07-13_arturo_gatti_wife_picture_hits_web.html

  23. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/david-kaplan-chicago-sports/2009/07/breaking-news-cubs-sale-to-be-announced-today.html Deja vu. I feel like I've lived this moment before.
  24. Looks like the answer is no... http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/entertainment/mlbs-cubs-file-bankruptcy/
  25. If they file bankruptcy, can they break any player contracts? (I'm looking at you, Soriano.) :beg:
