  1. Seconded. I really, really hate this. College basketball's postseason is basically perfect and you're going to change it? Meanwhile, college football's postseason is mostly a farce and we can't change that? Also, while this isn't my own independent thought, I think this could decrease viewership and interest. Filling out brackets has become a national pastime, and it becomes way more involved and complicated with 96 teams. The NCAA may not want to admit that, but a lot of people that aren't big basketball/sports fans enjoy the tournament for that very reason. Picking the winners of 79 games based on the names of the schools and their mascots will be much harder for the average fan than picking only 64 games based on the names of the schools and their mascots. Warning...math of the top of my head may be wrong or completely made up.
  2. So you didn't read Davell's post from the bottom of the previous page then? :)
  3. Teddy Greenstein says it's bunk. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/02/bogus-report-has-pittsburgh-set-to-join-big-ten.html
  4. Yeah, that one doesn't make sense. Martz has no ties to the Tampa system that sprouted Lovie's treehouse and no ties to the Indy branch of that system. They were on the same ASU staff 2 decades ago, but have done a lot of other stuff since. I'm thinking Lovie is desperate to save his job this coming year, whereas Angelos has more longterm plans in mind, and was preferring to get a younger guy that could potentially stick around with Cutler regardless of Lovie's return next year. If the Bears make the playoffs though, I'd bet on everybody returning in 2011 anyway. I've said it before, but I really think if the decision had been entirely Angelo's to make, I think Lovie would have been gone. I think Lovie knows it, and that there's tension between him and Jerry. I think at this point, Angelo is going to do his best to put whatever happens this season into Lovie's lap. Jerry is in CYA mode. I think as soon as the labor situation is worked out, the McCaskeys give Angelo the go ahead to jettison Lovie.
  5. Heh...bitter much?
  6. Seems like I'm remembering the Cubs being interested in Tracy previously....
  7. I think it's ludicrous to discount the value of taking the job that is offerend instead of waiting to see if somebody else makes an offer. It's asinine to suggest people view Oakland as more stable than Chicago (their head coach was almost arrested this season and almost fired last week). The Bears may be making a mistake by taking their time, but the Bears are taking their time and guys are taking jobs that are offered to them intead of waiting on the Bears. That's not sugarcoating, it's the only rational explanation. Right. The Bears haven't aggressively pursued a single person here. There's been no big push for anybody other than in the media. The Bears might be making huge mistakes by being lethargic in their search, but since there's been no offers, I don't think we can say people are turning it down because of Lovie...they're turning it down because they've gotten stronger, more aggressive interest from other places. Remember, Zampese didn't turn the Bears down...the Bears missed the deadline they were given for an offer. They just haven't appeared very interested in anyone.
  8. You must be a Colts fan or something, because I don't recall ever thinking the Bears would win, nor do I remember hearing anyone pick the Bears. There weren't that many people picking the Bears. The Manning/Grossman "matchup" put a dent in most of those arguments. It's just ESPN, but... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs06/news/story?id=2752062 6 picks for the Bears 14 picks for the Colts
  9. Yeah...the deliberate pace is really hurting them. I think they'll end up falling back to Martz in the long run.
  10. The Jets fired Doug Plank. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4857580
  11. I normally wouldn't repost a comment from another site, but this is too funny...from a Favre blurb on PFT:
  12. Who is Jay Butler?
  13. jealous envy is the worst kind of envy.
  14. The optimistic route has done me no good in the past year with the Cubs and the Bears. I'm trying out pessimism to see how it works out.
  15. Have they actually offered anyone the job? Or have they interviewed them and heard them say "sorry guys, I'm gonna take this other job."
  16. I didn't see that story. I heard it on the Score last week. Now, I find an article that says Angelo reportedly only asked that other candidates be looked at first. http://chi.scout.com/a.z?s=25&p=9&c=2&cid=940758&nid=4208314&fhn=1 So it was probably a classic Score over-reach. I think it's time to call Martz and get him in here. It was Terry Boers that said it, and although they reported it on the "Score Updates" that Angelo "vetoed" Martz, the way Boers had actually put it was just that he wanted to look at other candidates first...but they may end up coming back to Martz. I gotta tell ya, I think Angelo wanted to can Lovie. I think his statement about money not being a factor was true...for him. Unfortunately I think it was a factor for the McCaskeys.
  17. In my defense, your topic title was lame... 8-[
  18. Oakland Athletics prospect Grant Desme is retiring from baseball to enter the priesthood. Desme was recently selected the 2009 Arizona Fall League MVP and was considered one of the top prospects in Oakland's system. The 23-year-old outfielder batted .288 with 31 homers, 89 RBIs and 40 stolen bases in 131 games at Class-A Kane County and Stockton last season. He then hit .315 with a league-leading 11 home runs and 27 RBIs in 27 games in the fall league. "We respect Grant's decision and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors," Athletics general manager Billy Beane said in a statement. Desme was a second-round pick selection in the 2007 draft after being named Big West Player of the Year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
  19. Not happening today guys...Adams' funeral is today.
  20. I think people wants Thomas to win a spot, so that they can use the old "Diamond in the rough" comment.... :D Ugh...now I don't want him to win a spot, for that reason.
  21. Apparently since the end of the season, Matt Forte had arthoscopic knee surgery and Brad Maynard had arthoscopic hip surgery.
