  1. Revenue. Booster donations are way down because of the economy, so schools need to pay for sports programs how they can. Basketball is one of the few college sports that actually make money, so they need that revenue to pay for other sports. This gets more revenue to more schools, and doesn't negatively affect the teams involved in the tournament in any way. Well I'm sorry that the NCAA didn't realize they needed to fulfill your requirements of what benefits needed to be met, but I think "more revenue without much in the way of negatives" was sufficient for them.
  2. I'm hoping it won't be Anderson, except situationally. But I suppose that could be a hollow hope. Well it's gonna be Anderson or Idonije.
  3. Ryan Theriot fails at stealing bases. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2010-04/53055661.jpg
  4. Yeah...a Card fan buddy of mine pointed that out as well.

  6. I really don't like this. I was hoping the Peppers signing would help the defense take a step forward, but if all he is is a replacement for Ogunleye, Brown and Gaines, I really don't think they are better. I'm still hoping that Peppers helps Harris out, but yeah...releasing him was dumb.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5046999 Cards pay for most of his salary for this year. No word on who the Cards are getting.
  8. Angling for Lou's job?

  10. They're building police records because they want to be attractive to the Bengals when they become free agents. :D Apparently Holmes is getting into it with fans on twitter now....
  11. I admit it...I'm surprised.
  12. Not saying you're wrong, but then why wouldn't someone trade for him at the cheaper price?
  13. So Brown is as good as gone. Again though: I can't see a reason a team would trade something away for Brown when they know he'll be available soon for just the cash. Maybe if there were several suitors competing, none of whom wanted to get beat to the punch. But in this case, I don't see that. Brown isn't going to be a life-or-death acquisition for anyone. I imagine they figured they would have to release him, but they probably really like Brown, and they realize that if they release him, he's going to be signing for less money elsewhere...so they're trying to do right by him by at least attempting to trade him, so he can keep that salary. Maybe if they release him they could re-sign him for less money?
  14. Brad Biggs says that as a result of getting Peppers, the Bears either had to get rid of Alex Brown or Tommie Harris. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/03/dumping-brown-a-bottom-line-decision-for-bears.html
  15. So does Plaxico. There's still a difference between bringing the gun and discharging it.
  16. Agreed. Silva is garbage, but I'm not as down on Gorzelanny as I've seen others be.
  17. Was that the last game of the 4-game sweep right at the end of July where the Cubs won in a blowout? my favorite regular season series of all time. it topped the 5 game set against the cards in 2003 That was a great series, but it doesn't top the 5 game Cards set for me.
  18. What do you mean by "anything" though? Is a 6th rounder enough? 5th?
  19. Last time the Bears thought that Mark Anderson was better than Brown, they started Anderson and ended up going back to Brown. Brown can still play. This is a bad idea.
  20. Ok....yeah had bad info there...I misread one of the articles that included info about the 1994 kickoff rule change. Oops. There needs to be a "strikethrough" option on the forum so I can go back and cross that out...
  21. I disagreed with you a lot yesterday, but I'm with you completely here. Bears games on Sunday afternoons are much, much more fun.
  22. Most of the time, both teams get possession in OT, going by these figures. Hooray for "most of the time"! So, 27% of the time the team that won the flip, went down and scored a FG on the first posession and won the game in OT. That sucks. That's a huge number of times that the other teams offense isn't even getting on the field for an overtime game. And don't forget, the defense is already gimped in OT thanks to the kickoffs being at the 30 instead of the 35. So the team that wins the flip doesn't even have to go as far to get a FG in OT as they would in regulation.
  23. Sorry man, I completely disagree. Both teams play to a tie, and all a team needs to do to win is win a coin toss, move the ball...what 30-40 yards for a field goal? That's dumb. Except for the fact that this isn't nearly as easy as people are suggesting, and of course, not a problem. There is nothing unfair. They had 60 minutes to win the game, and they didn't. A coin toss does not determine the winner, and taking possession does not win the game. There is no perfect ending, and suggestions that they should just keep playing non-sudden death overtimes periods are just incredibly stupid. Both teams had 60 minutes to win the game, and neither did. So why should one team be provided with an advantage? We can debate how big the advantage is, but there is one...there's no debating that...and I'm all for striving to eliminate that advantage.
  24. Sorry man, I completely disagree. Both teams play to a tie, and all a team needs to do to win is win a coin toss, move the ball...what 30-40 yards for a field goal? That's dumb. Like you pointed out, these guys are exhausted by then, especially the defense. The odds are very much in favor of the team that wins the coin flip, and all the numbers bear that out. And any fan is going to feel like their team lost unfairly if their QB never even gets to get on the field during OT. Even if you forget about fairness (you and I obviously disagree on that point)...it's just not exciting. The NFL has the most boring OT of the "big 4" professional sports.
