  1. Not a good start....
  2. As soon as I saw the blurb about this, I came here to re-read this thread. EDIT: the good stuff starts on page 10 for those interested. Before that it's just "CubbieBum loves Purdue". You know, in some ways we're very different people. The Bum's deulsional Purdue and Title IX ravings are the best source of comedy since rchap started a fantasy thread. Haha. Yeah I shouldn't have referred to page 10 as the start of the "good stuff"...just the stuff relevant to the Texas predictions.

  4. I dunno...I think that just Martz focusing on a weakness of a player, and I don't think that's a bad thing. Olsen is a bad blocker...that's no secret. And if Martz is able to turn him into a good blocker, it's gonna change the way teams will play him. He'll be able to help with pass protection, or run blocking...and yet can sneak through on occasion and get open for a big play. I don't think what Martz said is that he isn't going to use Olsen's receiving ability...merely that he has to add the blocking dimension to his game. And I don't think he's wrong.
  5. Hester has about same number of catches and same number of yards (though 3 fewer td's) in 3 fewer games played last season. They each had one 100+ yard game, and about the same number of 75+ yard games. But it looks like Martz wants him in the slot now... Martz compared him to Az Hakim.
  6. Good comparison...other than TD's, their stats are pretty close, and that's with Hester having not played for 3 games late in the season. I wonder why the perception out there is that he was pretty mediocre then. I know that's what my perception has been... Maybe some of our expectations were too high.
  7. Welcome to the forum. I don't agree with you in saying Prior and Wood "saved the franchise" though. I didn't know the franchise was in trouble of falling apart. Also, it's 2010 and Prior hasn't pitched a meaningful inning in years. It really is time to move on already. Hi. I must disagree with you. This young man is not even thirty, and he has shown the spiritual strength and tenacity to overcome small obstacles. I have faith he can make it back and be the big game pitcher like he was. I'd need to see his spiritual strength and tenacity stats before I can agree. How do they measure up with Tim Tebow's spiritual strength stats?
  8. lol...sorry Jersey, but that phrase..."could be pretty close to great" gave me a chuckle. Have you seen Hester do anything "pretty close to great" as a receiver? I mean...if I'd seen a sign of it somewhere, I'd be with ya here...but so far, I've seen an average receiver at best. Granted, 2006 was a freakish season that won't be repeated as far as returns goes...but I just miss being excited when Hester was on the field. I don't really feel that way anymore. That's probably something that we won't get back though.
  9. Watching this just makes me happy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED1Qdp8EG6A I want to see him returning kicks again.
  10. This thing isn't done yet... http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/02/will-cubs-tax-hurt-chance-of-staying-in-mesa.html Jerry Reinsdorf is opposed to a plan to institute a surcharge on all Cactus League tickets to help fund the Cubs' proposed $84 million spring training complex in Mesa.
  11. Brett Favre's bruises... http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=PluckPersona&U=7dd1ad9f2be5463c88b30377822ff491&plckPersonaPage=BlogViewPost&plckUserId=7dd1ad9f2be5463c88b30377822ff491&plckPostId=Blog%3a7dd1ad9f2be5463c88b30377822ff491Post%3a555f5471-950c-4abf-b179-0ec2fa6438ed&plckController=PersonaBlog&plckScript=personaScript&plckElementId=personaDest
  12. Ok, I'm gonna make my trip to crazy town and actually try to have an actual conversation out of this. It's fruitless, but I'm bored. Why, if you were going to have an NBA minor league, would a college sponsor it? Because colleges are so rich with money (especially after they drop college basketball) that they have cash to throw at minor league sports?
  13. Colt's secondary coach Alan Wilson is interested in the Bears DC job... From media day....
  14. Seems like a lot of the arguments against this are similar to arguments against the wild card in MLB. Makes the playoffs less important...makes upsets less likely (the opposite was true in MLB actually)...undeserving teams getting a shot...etc I know it's not a 1 to 1 comparison there...but I think people are pretty negative about this before its had a chance here.
  15. I know we've not seen him on the field at all, but don't forget we still have Iglesias in the WR mix too.
  16. Gotcha...I see where I was off now.
  17. Seconded. I really, really hate this. College basketball's postseason is basically perfect and you're going to change it? Meanwhile, college football's postseason is mostly a farce and we can't change that? Also, while this isn't my own independent thought, I think this could decrease viewership and interest. Filling out brackets has become a national pastime, and it becomes way more involved and complicated with 96 teams. The NCAA may not want to admit that, but a lot of people that aren't big basketball/sports fans enjoy the tournament for that very reason. Picking the winners of 79 games based on the names of the schools and their mascots will be much harder for the average fan than picking only 64 games based on the names of the schools and their mascots. Warning...math of the top of my head may be wrong or completely made up. A 96 team tournament would feature 95 games total, since only one team is eliminated per game. I figured a 64 team tournament is 63 games. And then you add another 32 teams...which I figured would be playing "play-in" games...which means 16 more games.
  18. The first post told us it was a minor league deal. But there's still going to be a bunch of chemistry/practical joker/intangible nonsense discussed as a result. The first post didn't mention that there was no guaranteed money though.
  19. Yeah, let's not be ridiculous and let in more than 65 teams to a tournament. It might dilute the field. I hope my team makes the funky 48.
  20. Yep. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/02/mike-martz-hired-as-bears-offensive-coordinator.html
