    In theory. But a loss next week really makes it tough. Green Bay may lose next week, but they are likely to win their last 2 games. The Bears should be the fully exposed Jets at home the day after Christmas, but they will probably lose at Green Bay. So if they lose to Minnesota as they usually do, Green Bay is still in position to take the division and Chicago will likely miss the playoffs with the Giants and Saints most likely to take wild card spots. I think it comes down to this game, regardless Green Bay's result in New England. I don't know how you can assume anything about what games Green Bay will win at this point. 1) They couldn't move the ball at all vs the Lions when Rodgers was in there. 2) You don't know what Rodgers status is at this point. Two concussions in the same season can't be good. I heard so much last week about how Green Bay would beat Atlanta on a neutral field, but then they lose to Detroit? Seems to me they're just as inconsistent as every team not named the Patriots.

    The defense has been too cocky since the Philly game, imo. They need to feel like they have something to prove. But yeah, this is an absolute must win game.

    For kicks, lets say that the playoffs begin next week. Also, I'm assuming that the Giants win tonight. 1. Atlanta - Bye 2. Chicago - Bye 6. Giants at 3. Eagles 4. STL at 5. NO The funny part of that, is that if STL and the Giants were to win, then the Bears would be "punished" by getting the best seed, STL, while Atlanta would get the "worst" seed, the Giants... Unlikely, but amusing.

    His rationale is that we probably would've beat Detroit if Rodgers wasn't concussed. The rankings are completely arbitrary. I'd much rather be in your position than be in ours right now. Sure...and I know they're arbitrary, but since the Packers didn't score while Rodgers was playing, I think he's making a false assumption, if that's his rationale. But I'll let it go rather than turn it into some long discussion like the last power rankings discussion...lol.

    Hmmm...I know the Bears got trounced, and I know power rankings don't matter...yadda yadda...but how does Peter King justify keeping the Packers ranked 8th...2 spots ahead of the Bears?

    Also, we hold the tiebreaker against Philly, so as long as we can keep pace with them, we'll hold our first round bye.

    The events of today still make it more likely for us to win the division at least. Before today, the Packers had the tiebreakers on us, if they beat us in that final game. That's not the case anymore.

    It's not so much an overreaction. I've not thought much of this team most of the year. They've had a ton of breaks (and taken advantage of them) but they have so many flaws. Fans get ahead of themselves looking at the record and expecting dominance. This team isn't that good. The o-line can go from passable to traffic cone in an eyeblink, for example. I won't argue with you about the O-line...but they've gone from atrocious to just bad this season. That and some changes to the offensive philosophy have been enough to get the team going in the 2nd half. I don't think it's so much that the Bears are great, as much as the rest of the league isn't all that great either. Again...other than the Pats it seems.

    And this should also crown you drama queen of the forum. Not sure if serious. The defense got worked every time New England decided to try. I'm sure some of it is the snow hurting the pursuit aspect, but against good teams, they tend to bend and break. One game against any team doesn't mean much...especially in these kind of conditions. The Bears are as good as any team in the league...well, maybe not the Pats...lol But you're way overreacting to this game. This isn't a division, or even a conference game. The Packers loss was way more meaningful than this game is.

    Pat Hughes told some really great stories about Ron today at the funeral...really great stuff. The Score carried it live...I highly recommend finding it online somewhere if possible.

    That would be, far and away, the most points given up by the Bears all season. Most up until now is 26 to Philly in a win. New England is also the highest scoring offense they've faced and Chicago matches up better with what Philly tries to do than what New England does. I was just about to post that NE has only scored fewer than 26 twice. Something definitely has to give. Or they could score 26. Mind....blown.

    Interestingly, the game he missed wasn't even an FBS game. It was the FCS playoff game between Appalachian State and Western Illinois. Boise State's President really went off about this. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5896480 It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on how the rankings are determined, or at least on the transparency.

If you're going to incorporate W-L record, you have to consider injuries in those losses if those players have returned (like Matthews vs Miami). UMfan brought up GB's winning streak. I was pointing out that Atlanta's is longer. During their streak they had 4 wins against playoff contending teams (TB Twice, GB and Baltimore). During GB's, they played 2 winning teams...and lost one...to Atlanta. Again, I'm not saying that GB is a bad team. But I think Atlanta has done plenty to earn the benefit of the doubt, imo. It's not like I put Atlanta 10th or anything, though. Yeah...and it probably got a lot more discussion than it needed...lol
