Maybe Ricketts requested permission to speak with both. That could be the big holdup. Either: A. Epstein comes to the Cubs, Cherington Boston GM B. Epstein extended as GM, Cherington to Cubs C. Epstein promoted to higher poition with Boston, Cherington Bostons GM, Ricketts to plan C Option C seems unlikely, imo. What would happen with Lucchino?

Ricketts said he had "100 percent confidence in Jim" on June 15 before firing him (secretly no less!) on July 22. Whether we like it or not, I don't think Ricketts always means what he says publicly. He feeds pablum to reporters in order to avoid public feuds while conducting his business behind closed doors. Those situations aren't comparable at all. Yeah, what would be the motivation for Ricketts to lie in this case?

What powers do you think he'll have as President that would be a problem? I think he fears that somebody else would be the guy performing GM duties. Oh, I gotcha. Yeah I don't think Ricketts is bringing in Theo to not make baseball decisions.

Yeah, I think he's saying he'd not be impressed with anyone that led the Cubs to a WS title because they have a high payroll.

I hope not. If we hire Theo, I want him being the GM. Period. He can be "President and GM" if that's what they want to call it. Or call him President and don't have a GM.

My guess is there would be a press conference scheduled by the Cubs for X time later in the day, and between the time of that announcement and the press conference, the news would leak. Pretty much how the Hendry firing conference day went down. Yeah...I'd imagine when a press conference gets announced, all of a sudden the reporters probably get pretty annoying to "sources".

i'm honestly thinking a theo-hahn pairing is in our future. with francona as manager. I don't think Francona is gonna happen.
