    Well at this point, the real mystery part of this is on the Red Sox side anyhow. It's really up to them what happens here. The "compensation" aspect seems to be fun message board fodder, but ultimately unimportant to the process. Either the Red Sox want Theo to stay, or they don't. I don't think they'll make him available to talk to the Cubs, and then decide to keep him because the compensation is inadequate.

    Posters on SoSH are wanting similar packages. They want us to have to take Lackey, and give up Garza/Castro.

    The funny thing is, the "crazy person" was UK, and he was simply using hyperbole (I think) to make the point that hiring a top notch GM would be worth spending significant resources to acquire. Ah. I couldn't really be bothered to wade through the rest of that discussion. Commenting on things that you didn't fully read is another NSBB tradition.

    Mimicking the Vikings first half would seem to be our best path to success. I have zero faith in our passing attack at this point, but if we can Forte going with both the run and screen passes, I think that's something we can maintain. The pass rush will have to be really fired up, and hopefully having Harris back there can help out with the secondary.

    I'm curious to see if the "suck in the first half" trend continues for Detroit.

    It'll be difficult to see them better than GB/Det, NYG/Phil, TB/ATL/NO. 3 of those teams will win their divisions and 2 more for WC. They have to go 2 of 3 vs Det, TB, and Phil while beating Minn to have a shot at the WC. While its not a must win, they'd have to win the next month to be in the picture. I don't think it's all that difficult to see them better than TB/ATL/NYG/Phil. None of those teams have played as tough a schedule as the Bears so far. I'm not saying the Bears are for sure better, but I don't think it's difficult to see.

    I'm probably jinxing it, but I haven't gotten any errors today.

    If you're "oh my-ing" about the Lions rank, most rankings that I've seen this week have had them #3. I understand you gotta give them credit for being 3-0, and that's all good. But I'd like to see them play some tough teams. Dallas has played, according to FO, the #4, #6, and #12 defenses. Detroit has played the #16, #26, and #27 defenses. I know, it's early season stats and all, but still...it's pretty clear that there's a reason the Lions have had so much more offense than Dallas.

    And yet we were still right in that game...so frustrating that we haven't done more to help Cutler out. So glad we haven't signed Martz for after this season.

    I think some crews are definitely worse than others. Seems like Mike Carey's crew gets complained about by Bears fans more than others. I wonder if that's consistent across the league.

    Theoretically, what if you put Knox and Hester on opposite sides of the field each time. If they both pretended to field it...or one called fair catch while the other caught it...couldn't that only be beneficial? Either the coverage has to guess which guy to go after, or they have to pay much more attention to the ball in the air than they normally would, while also having to fight through blocks. I'm not sure this has to be a one time thing. I don't know if it'll ever work quite as perfectly...but I think you could really mess with some bad special teams squads.

    That was only for the NFC Championship game. This is only week 3. No need for it right now. Yep. So long as everybody behaves like grown ups, we should be fine. Barber and Carimi out today (shocker).     NFL contracts are not guaranteed. Then why aren't all great players just signed to 8-10 year contracts? Very many are. And the player has to agree to it. But they want the money front loaded, or guaranteed. And then they get mad when they are playing the last few years on the cheap, and they want a new deal. (Hello Mr Briggs)

    they won't be able to. this line gets confused blocking a 4-man front. Why are some fans so obsessed with the blitz? I would actually welcome some over aggressive blitzing this week. Cutler can exploit that on occassion. The Bears lack the line to block straight up and look deep. It drove me nuts that we didn't do more dump off passes to Forte or Davis on the blitzes that the Saints were doing late. It seems like it should've been so easy to have some short routes rather than trying to max protect all the time.
