  1. Now lets go back and find all the posts where people wanted to trade him and shame them appropriately.
  2. Normally rainouts make me sad but the Cubs haven't had a day off in over two weeks, so bring on the rain. Just make it an absolute no doubt rainout then...I'll pass on the "we might have a window oops wait nope we don't" type of rainout.
  3. Does trading Eddie Butler and Rollie Lacy for Hamels count as pretty much nothing? How about getting Chavez for Tyler Thomas? Those are just the recent ones. Just because we haven't had young studs developed through the system doesn't mean that we've gotten "pretty much nothing". Yes, definitely counts for nothing. The Hamels trade wasn't made for some burning desire to have Eddie Butler and Rollie Lacy. It was a salary dump. Who cares? It's still turning farm system pitching into quality pitching, no matter the motivation.
  4. That's been an organizational philosophy though. Draft and develop badass position players, which are more predictable. Trade for and sign pitching in free agency because of the unpredictability. They weren't forced to make high risk moves...it was a strategic choice. Originally that plan was to draft hitters with the high pick but still get pitchers by drafting them in bulk with supplemental picks and later rounds. That approach netted pretty much nothing. 5. Strop has had his blowups too though and occasionally struggles with control. Maybe not as frequently or as bad as Carl but Carl has better overall stuff when he's on, and when he's off its mostly a control thing, he still doesnt usually get hit hard. I dunno I guess there is no ideal answer, and Strop has been mostly fine as closer and certainly has paid his dues in the Cubs pen. I don't think Strop's blowups or control issues are as significant as you fear. He blew the save the day after Morrow went on the DL, and he blew one a couple weeks ago against Cincy, but he's been pretty nails otherwise as a closer.
  6. If you're not gonna use Strop to close, I'd say Chavez...the homer last night not withstanding. But Strop really is probably the best candidate.
  7. Do the honorable thing, Nats...you have nothing to play for.
  8. one time when i was in high school i hit a ball into the left field corner and when i got to second i saw there was nobody at third. i was instantly thrilled about how smart i was for being the good baserunner who noticed things like that so i ran to third. the third baseman who was out in shallow left field immediately saw what i was doing and jogged back to the bag and i was out by 20 feet and my coach took me out of the game for being an idiot. i can’t even imagine what it must feel like to see stuff like that and be right. It helps when the infield is shifted for Rizzo.
  9. I need to look into whether or not it's possible to ban a person for Sept-Nov only.

  11. Despite a really crappy performance from most of our rotation. which is why we shouldn't improve it? http://www.mlb.com/images/5/4/8/292789548/083118_hamels_wave.gif
  12. That doesn't seem true in the slightest. 1) We don't "need" to win but 2) even if we did it doesn't mean we aren't good.
  13. NIghtengale has Javy in the lead for MVP, if that does anything for you. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2018/09/04/mlb-awards-mookie-betts-javier-baez-al-nl-mvp/1194385002/

  15. Wow...intentionally putting Carpenter on...that's gutsy.
  16. how do you walk Kelly there. You gotta throw a strike there. I don't care if he mashes it.
  17. And now a two run homer...Suarez off of Norris. Hell yeah.
  18. Reds and Cards tied 3-3, bottom of the ninth, Cardinals had the bases loaded, nobody out...and they can't score.
