  2. Disagree. They have two months where they have played less than .600 ball. .519 in May, and .545 in September.
  3. and just one of them clinches playing beyond Sunday. I wonder if the Cubs are going to celebrate if they clinch at least a WC berth? My guess is they won't, but then again this team loves to celebrate. I'm pretty sure the Cubs clinched a playoff spot a few days before they clinched the division in 2016 and didn't celebrate, but at that point the division was a formality and worth waiting for. We are getting close to formality this year but definitely less certain. They'll probably celebrate in the clubhouse, but I doubt it will be a media access situation.
  4. A Cubs win and a Rockies loss clinches a playoff spot for the Cubs.
  5. Says more about our President than it does a dumb baseball player.
  6. Oh yeah cuz it's soooo often you hear about how after a DV dispute everyone comes out feeling like it was a fair process with a just outcome.
  7. If you think Rizzo had a bad take, this won't do much for you... [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. What do you think all of the other players said? Surely Rizzo wasn't the only one asked. If he'd said no comment, they would have just not printed anything about his opinion. Disagree. He's one of the faces of the franchise. Whatever Rizzo said, it was going to be published or tweeted. As it should be. Nobody gives a horsefeathers what Randy Rosario thinks. Bryant? Lester? Baez? Lemme know when you read those quotes.
  9. So Theo and the FO knew the investigation was still open, but Maddon didn't.
  10. oh come on. rizzo could have just said "no comment" and people would have been fine with it. Maybe not, though. People could be pissed that by no commenting, he is also not speaking out against it. So horsefeathers Addison Russell for putting them in that position by being a horsefeathers. What do you think all of the other players said? Surely Rizzo wasn't the only one asked. If he'd said no comment, they would have just not printed anything about his opinion.
  11. So apparently the Cubs couldn't take any disciplinary action or investigate this since it was under MLB investigation this whole time? It seems like the Cubs hands have been kinda tied with a lot of this.
  12. yeah we got about 8 months to criticize Brewers fans for giving Hader a standing ovation before we (we meaning our fan base not our segment which is much less tone deaf) look like hypocrites. It was a lot less than that when Cubs fans were cheering Murphy loudly.
  13. Eh, I kinda get it from a player perspective. He can only really say so much here. It's above his paygrade, so to speak. That should have been his answer, not criticizing the people doing the investigation. Came very close to 'I have no idea why this hasn't been wrapped up already'. I think he has kind of a point. What's the point of having left it open this long? I don't think he was saying what the result should've been...just that it should've been dealt with before now.
  14. Do better, Rizzo. Eh, I kinda get it from a player perspective. He can only really say so much here. It's above his paygrade, so to speak.
  15. [tweet] [/tweet]
  16. Rangers to fire Jeff Banister as manager.
  17. [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. So we can blame all of them if they come out of this with nothing but words.
  19. I'm not sure that they can suspend him without pay if he hasn't been actually charged with a crime.
  20. An abundance of caution. Giving him an extra day of rest cuz he was pulled with a sore back last game.
  21. Opinions deserve scorn if they're [expletive] opinions. A white supremacist holds the opinion of racial superiority, and he should absolutely be vilified for such a thing. Holding horsefeathers opinions absolutely makes someone a horsefeathers person. Yes, they’re both scummy. But can we at least agree that there’s a big difference between the white supremacist whose white supremacy is limited to point of view and the one who actually acts upon it? What do you mean acting upon it? Does voting in accordance with your shitty opinion count? Does announcing your [expletive] opinion to the fans of the team that you play for count? Does mocking them when asked about your shitty opinion count?
  22. Yeah, I suppose it's some level of progress that there's the level of outrage about these things now that there is.
  23. Some people think it’s more important that all fans are able to enjoy the sport without tremendous internal conflict than their favorite team making some marginal improvement to the playoff roster. Maybe. Those people also still celebrate the 2016 World Series which they don’t win without Aroldis Chapman. So in the end, winning is going to cure all even though it might feel gross to some. And by the way, there are a lot of people that have not been able to stomach still watching this team. These kinds of issues...Chapman, Murphy, Russell, ARE driving away fans.
  24. Maybe. Those people also still celebrate the 2016 World Series which they don’t win without Aroldis Chapman. So in the end, winning is going to cure all even though it might feel gross to some. It's not a horsefeathering "cure all," plenty of people are both rightly happy the Cubs won the WS and detest that Chapman played a role in it. And if you detest Chapman, it's easy to look at game 7 in retrospect and be glad that he personally failed, and the Cubs still won.
