  1. Gah....can't listen to it at work, and I forgot to listen to it at home last night....
  2. To be fair, that's just Bruce's interpretation of what they'll do. For all we know, they planned from day one to extend Baker and all of this is just trying to pass it off to the public as the right move. Entirely plausible. You'll excuse me if I hope you're just flat out wrong on the probability of all this Bruce....no offense... :P
  3. He seems to be favoring his groin. His own or Dusty's? Well done.
  4. Frankly I'm terrified. Of the Reds.
  5. My hope is that Baker turns it down. Dusty has never dealt with criticism well, and he's had a lot of it this season. Especially from fans. Hopefully he won't want another year of that.
  6. Well Joe pretty much put an end to this speculation....
  7. Randy Winn was not chump change. He had a 117 OPS+ that season, hitting .298/.360/.461 in 675 PA. But look how much Piniella brought to that team..... *crickets*
  8. I thought Vance was in the "Hire Davey Johnson" bandwagon (I refused to shorten it, ), so if this is the "Real Vance" then he has had some flipping of the mind. Nah...he's been firmly for Dierker first, Johnson second...pretty closely for quite a while.
  9. There really ought to be an "other" option. I'm choosing DD, but that's mainly a vote against KK. DD is in a terrible spot in this town and so I really rarely go to either.
  10. This thought crossed my mind as well. Was he saying "we aren't in that mode" about trading prospects for a manager? Hmmm...that quote seemed clear when I first read it...now it looks a bit more vague. Stupid rosy glasses.

  12. A snippet from an article in today's Sun-Sentinel:
  13. I would give up this one "good" thing if we could take back all the "bad" things...

This is just flat out not true. He was on the anti-Orton bandwagon FAR before it was popular last season. They had caller after caller arguing against him, and he was asking them legitimate questions, to which many of them had no answers to. And if you don't listen to Chicago sports radio on a frequent basis, I'm not sure how you're able to make this statement. To go into this further, he's generally less on the side of conventional wisdom than any other Score host, and is a terrific interviewer. He almost never shies away from asking pointed questions, which is one reason they have trouble getting certain people to appear on their show now. To get back on topic a bit, B&B actually had what I thought was a fantastic interview with Jerry Angelo yesterday. I only caught some of it, but they really got him into talking about what it's like to get an NFL general manager...it was really quite interesting.

  16. Sounds like the Rich Hill discussions a few months back. when has Guzman dominated at Iowa? He's got a great k/bb ratio, and decent WHIP at Iowa. He hasn't "accomplished" anything in the majors because he's had 6 whole starts, like Rich did when people were ready to give him away for a bag of baseballs. And his overall minor league numbers have been great. I was having difficulty finding more than just this years stats.

  18. Wouldnt it be something if we could go a whole day without someone talking about a team that has absoloutley no bearing on ours? I have a ton of Sox fans who have been giving me hell for two years, so it would have a bearing on my life. It shut them up for a while...I'm sure I'm not alone. Do they post on here?

  20. HA! If the media won't mention Larry Dierker, Vance will do it for them!! Way to go Vance! Only thing missing is the NSBB plug...heh.

I don't agree, but I can certainly understand the point of view. He's certainly not for everyone. That said, Lawrence Holmes is very good. And Zach is just kinda ok. For me anyway.

I pretty much agree with you here. Bernstein is at his best when Terry is on vacation and he's doing the show alone. He stays on topic, and his jokes are momentary and not taken to the extreme. Bernstein is clearly the strength of that show. I do think they are more interested in belittling opinions that don't match their own, rather than having an open-minded discussion, but I know that going into the show, so I just take what I want from it.
  23. That only increases my interest in Joe.... :)
  24. They have a room dedicated to announcing managerial changes? It was just something that was noted in the ESPN article. I should have said "a room" not "the room"...:P Here's the quote from the source story in the Palm Beach Post:
  25. Holy crap...according to ESPN, staffers were actually setting up for a press conference in the room where managerial changes have been announced in the past, after that Girardi/Loria spat... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2543099
