  1. Jim, what position on the team do you think is the weakest, and how do you intend to address that?
  2. You mean you'd like to no longer see the ads. Premium never disappeared, only the perks did. Funny thing is, that only one perk disappeared. Not seeing the ads. All of the rest of the perks are built into the new version of the board already. And to nitpick, it hasn't been 5 months...it's been 3. The thread was started in August, but the conversion itself took place in November.
  3. Khailil Greene vs his former team, the Padres. Matt Murton vs his former team, the Cubs.
  4. How many people would go in and just check random boxes based on no information whatsoever just to get their tax rebate? I admit, I'd love to see more people take advantage of their right to vote, but I want to have my cake and eat it too...I want them to be informed votes.
  5. But he already called me dumb and then mocked my "masturbation" habits? :?: You know what, I'd probably get defensive if I had an entire message board completely crapping on me too. He's new, and may not know the rules. You don't have that excuse. Deuce, do me a favor and read the board guidelines if you wish to continue posting here. Thanks.
  6. Take it easy guys. Jeez. It's been a full page since he posted and you're still going on him. Back off a little.
  7. I know that you're new here, and you're getting a lot of disagreement and are fighting an uphill battle an all here...I get that. But cussing, even with parts of the words asterisk'd out, is not pemitted on this board. Keep it clean. A reminder for everyone else. It's ok to disagree on opinions, but no personal attacks please. Thanks.
  8. I find that some Cubs fans just generally think our players have a ton of value. The "every minor leaguer is going to be great because I haven't personally witnessed them fail yet" sort of attitude. Yeah, I'm not sure you can make a clear generalization either way. A whole lot of extreme overvaluing/undervaluing goes on with fans, and I think that's not just Cub fans, it's sports fans.
  9. Of the bigger deal that's been floated, I would like to try to hold onto Marshall if at all possible.
  10. I don't normally make "chemistry" type of arguments, but Barrett was quite a distraction during his final days as a Cub. With the majority of the veteran core remaining the same, I don't think Barrett would be a good fit. I wasn't in favor of trading him, but I think that ship has sailed.
  11. Interesting that the GM is quoted there actually expressing interest in another team's player. That's not too common.
  12. That's all well and good, but the people that don't vote better damn well not bitch about whoever gets voted in. They had their chance to contribute.
  13. Boy, if they build something like that, the Cubs better be playing in Wrigley for quite some time to come. You'd hate to build it and then have the Cubs move.
  14. Nah. His name is just in the topic. It's not all Brian Roberts.
  15. Any interest in the offer I made you last week? I haven't even looked at the league since around the end of last season. I'll try to remember to check it when I get home.
  16. I'll play if you need me too. But I wouldn't be too hurt if someone wanted my spot.
  17. Are we looking at the same numbers? Unemployment went up every year under GHW Bush, then down every year under Clinton, and then up again for the first 3 years of the GW Bush administration. Are you saying that's coincidence? If you really believe this, than I'm not sure there's much we can talk about. You don't believe that it's good to have more money coming in than going out? You don't think that having money available to pay down the MASSIVE national debt is a good thing? Taxes are a fact of life. I don't like paying them any more than the next guy. But what I hate more, is paying them and the government ending up ADDING to the national debt while I'm paying them. If the choice is between wasteful spending, and having a surplus to pay down the national debt, it's a simple choice. These are averages. The number of years doesn't matter. And the header of the chart that I showed you clearly says that it's under Republican Presidents/Adminstrations. It's regardless of the congressional majority. We're going to have to agree to disagree. The definition of a surplus is that you aren't spending more money than you're bringing in, which is what happened during the last Democratic Presidential administration. So you're complaining about them spending too much money, but then you say a surplus is a bad thing. You can't have it both ways.
  18. Page 5: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45628&p=1613300#p1613300 Not suspicious in any way, shape or form.
  19. When I saw the subject, I thought maybe he was trying to use the +/- system that they use in hockey and that Yahoo is now reporting the NBA box scores. That might have been just as amusing.
  20. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7703798 Trading away Marquis might be the best part of any Roberts deal if it happened.
  21. My memory is that it was when I lived there (1962 through 1975). If I recall you used to live in Waukegan; I lived just west of Gurnee. My recollection is that Illinois was usually a Republican state except for Chicago. Good memory, NC! Been a long time since we had that discussion. Lets have a moment of silence for the scores of memories that perished so that this one could be retained...... 8-)
  22. If it wasn't for my horse, I never would've spent that year in college. It loses something without the funny prounciation of the word "horse".
  23. Someone "attached" a picture instead of hosting it offsite. It's a new feature on phpbb3.
  24. Who was ever suggesting just Cedeno as the main piece of the trade? I should rephrase my position. The Padres are a contending team with a weak offense. Their starting shortstop would likely be Cedeno if Greene gets traded to the Cubs. I don't think they want to open the season with him any more than we do. Agreed. The Cubs would have to either really wow them with the other parts of the deal or at least involve another team. The latest from Ken Rosenthal: The Padres are targeting Matt Murton for left field, a notion that gels with Kevin Towers' stated quest to acquire a corner outfielder via trade. Plus, Towers gets along well with Cubs GM Jim Hendry. Not sure how the teams would match up, unless things expand to include Khalil Greene. The Cubs would have to be sure they don't need Murton for other deals or because of other deals. Rosenthal agrees with the recent rumor that the Orioles will decide whether to trade Erik Bedard and Brian Roberts by month's end. He notes that Cubs starter Jason Marquis actually does have trade value, and could be part of a package for Roberts. Other teams are interested in him too - go figure. Innings are innings I guess. Marquis, 29, is owed $16.25MM over the 2008-09 seasons. I hate it when Rosenthal teases.
