  1. Exactly. Don't win this for Cubs fans, or their grandfathers, or whatever or whoever you want to win for. Nobody but the 25 men who play the game, should only want to win it for the guy who they sit next to. The guys you battle through 162 games of up and down. Winning and losing streaks. Day and night games. And doubleheaders and 4 games in 3 night scheduling. Do it fo the guy who comes into work at 8 am and leaves the job hours after the game is over. Do it for the guys who works hard even tho it doesn't look like he's trying hard, and he gets rip in themedia. Most importantly, do it for yourself. No fans, no matter the age or health, or race or IQ level goes through what each and every ballplayer goes through in a professional season. Win it because you've play baseball long enough that you should be at the top of the pinnacle. Do it for youself. Each player deserves to be call "the best" if for one shining moment in their lives. The fans, the love, the celebration are fun and a nice perk to winning, but do it to reach the top of your profession. That's all I ask. Without the fans, these guys don't have a job.
  2. I was really impressed with Z's composure, and he did pitch well. No complaints here. Ditto.
  3. My name is Earl.
  4. Dodger fans had a World Series to celebrate 20 years ago. Not much help to the 19-year-old Dodger fans who get leukemia, is it? Why do you hate the leukemia kids? Instead of hoping for a Cubs win, you should fly down to LA right now and start taunting a children's hospital's leukemia ward. It's the same thing. Buy me a plane ticket and those kids will get an earful.
  5. Dodger fans had a World Series to celebrate 20 years ago.
  6. Few situations in the history of major league baseball were as irrelevant to the outcome of a game as that one. That's not the point.
  7. You think Lou would have gotten the picture when Torre brought in a damn righty from the bullpen to face Fukudome last night with 2 men on and 2 out. That would have been a great PH spot for Hoffpauir. Oh, wait.
  8. My 77-year old dad. He's the reason I have the sickness that is my Cubs addicition. He is worse than I am. Since he and my mom retired, they have spent every March in Mesa for spring training. My dad was like a giddly little schoolboy a few years ago after getting his picture taken with Billy Williams. He actually remembers the 1945 World Series. He has had cancer, heart problems, and is diabetic. Now he is slowly going blind. I want more than anything for him to see a Cubs championship before he loses his eyesight or, worse yet, his life. That's who I want the Cubs to win for.
  9. As I read each post on this thread, I started to hit the quote button and reply with "I couldn't agree more" until I read the next one and saw that the nest person added another great comment. I just feel so lost and betrayed right now. Most of all, I feel bad for guys like Santo and my dad. They deserve a championship. Yeah, I said. I have poured my heart & soul into this team for 30 years only to be disappointed time & time again. Those guys have been through the pain a lot longer, especially my old man. If the Cubs win Game 3, they better win Games 4 & 5, too. Don't get my hopes up any more this season if you're not going to finish the deal.
  10. Is Jesus Fukudome Kosuke's Mexican half-brother? Can he hit?
  11. I'll pee in my pants if the Cubs win this game.
  12. Jesus Christ. "Strike 2" was nowhere close to the plate.
  13. Torre brings in a righty to face Fukudome. What does that tell you, Lou?
  14. Why should we be cordial to a ---SOAPDROPPING--- Brewer fan on here talking Howry about the Cubs at this point? We should have let the Mets win. Or swept the Brewers to end the season.
  15. Why should we be cordial to a [expletive] Brewer fan on here talking [expletive] about the Cubs at this point?
  16. I don't know how much more of this I can handle. And I'm not referring to this series.
  17. So when do pitchers & catchers report to Mesa?
  18. I'd be happy if the cast-offs were limited to DeRo, Dempster, Theriot, and D-Lee. They had the tightest sphincters this series, so they simply have to go. Give Fuku another year. Embrace Soriano's eccentricity and encourage players to emulate him. Sign four guys that, in a psychological sense, most fit the Manny/Johnny Damon/Idiot psychological profile to replace DeRo, Demp, Ther, and D. Just not Manny himself. Too distracting. Bring in Bellhorn as a bench guy (or coach?). DeRo, really? You do realize he's driven in our only runs of this series, right?
  19. This is all just some mean joke on Cub fans, right? The series actually starts next week.
  20. Got rejected on my 2nd e-mail address, too.
