  1. Related note: Cubs have 3 of the top 11 players in the NL by fWAR. Is that good? Also 4 of the top 20. http://rs140.pbsrc.com/albums/r19/erikesemo/MotherofGodGIF.gif~c200
  2. Fred are you still driving/delivering? I miss your "greetings from ________" posts.
  3. for the record it was. the previous shortest was 18 seconds in a game between the yankees and blue rays earlier this year. that one was half of that - 9 seconds.
  4. Hey !! No reason to be disparaging Travis here !! ;) you know I actually thought about using a corny travis joke there, too
  5. hendricks looks awesome tonight *knocks on wood*
  6. Over his last 29 games, he has a .704 OPS (.165/.287/.417). He's still walking and hitting for power. The biggest issue has been a .155 BABIP and a slightly elevated strikeout rate. Sure, he probably needs to make some adjustments, but luck hasn't exactly been on his side lately either. I would be stunned if they left him off the roster. If you go back the last 30 games his OPS jumps all the way to .793.
  7. If all of NSBB were polled and asked if they assume he would be a lock on the playoff roster, I would have guessed 100% would have said yes.
  8. Schwarber has a .356 wOBA and a 125 wRC+ in September. He's not been bad, just a low batting average (some of which has certainly been bad luck)
  9. not that i'm defending the decision, but joe said he's the most well conditioned athlete he's ever been around. he really doesn't look like he ever labors and so i'm sure there is truth behind this mentality, but it doesn't seem like it's necessary. And Mark Prior had perfect mechanics. This decision was [expletive]. I already said I didn't really agree. In fact, in the post you quoted.

Yeah but I'm not worried about him being gassed physically, I'm worried about his arm falling off. Can conditioning prevent that? (Serious question) the stronger your body is, the less taxation it has on your arm. It's not a total ultimatum, but it's certainly a factor. When your body (especially legs) get tired you rely more on your arm itself.

  12. whatever. ride him, i guess. he's a physical freak, i suppose. don't let him get over 115-120, please.
  13. it's already over 100, JD. No point in sending him out there with a 4 (probably 5) run lead.
  14. I don't think it counts as conceding the game to take Arrieta out here. Agreed? I'm saying, as much as I want the game in CHI, even if the game is in Pittsburgh, the most important thing is Jake is at the top of his game. Regardless of location. Does that make more sense?

  16. slick play by the stud MIF's. Take him out in the 9th. we need him to be fresh for the WC game, Joe. PITT or CHI, that doesn't matter.
  17. I actually was mentioning that in saying that you'd need to trade both of them in different deals and I'm not sure Soler's trade value is where it should be based on his talent level. To me, Schwarber and Soler is way too much for Stanton.
  18. OK then. And you may be right and that may be the best call. And honestly I hope it is, because I love this damn team a ton and I'd hate to see any of them get traded. But again, a "super sub" for the Cubs has a certain value. A solid/stud SS for another team is going to have a LOT more value. You have to factor that in and weigh your options.
  19. ...it'll be great watching them both in the lineup at SS and 3B respectively? So Bryant moves to the OF. Is Schwarber now a C-only guy? Or is he still in the mix? What about Soler? They are awesome problems to have but decisions will definitely need to be made this offseason. I kinda want to trade Schwarber. And it has nothing to do with him being a little cold right now. I don't think him being in the OF is the best option long term, and I'm kinda bummed that if he's a catcher it means you automatically get him in the lineup significantly less than if he were playing another position. I guess I'm just not opposed to the idea of trading him for something insane. And it would have to be something insane to justify it in the first place. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, if he was the centerpiece in a deal to net someone like Stanton? So then you want to trade both Schwarber and Soler? Not that I'm I'm saying it comes to a decision between Soler and Stanton (of course it wouldn't), but then you also have to factor in Soler's value and what you can get for him. Again, not saying I'm shooting down the possibility altogether or anything, just that it's complex. Luckily I feel like Theo et al. is the perfect group to figure all of this out /Brett

They are awesome problems to have but decisions will definitely need to be made this offseason. Keep them all and let it be sorted out, there's plenty of ab's for everyone maybe. if you look at Castro or Baez as a SS/2B/3B sub there could be plenty of AB for each of them. At some point, though, you have to weigh if having that type of player out-weighs the return you could get via trade from a team that would use them as their everyday position player. I was kind of saying it for effect when I said "I have no idea what to do with all these amazing infielders". To highlight how good of a "problem" it is to have. Part of it genuine, for sure. NICE!
  21. ugh. he beat the [expletive] out of that ball.

  23. I have no idea what to do with all these amazing infielders anymore.
  24. Cravy has been working out of the bullpen lately. He's not stretched out sufficiently for a start. Tonight was the Brewers' "bullpen start". gotcha. thanks, fred
