  1. This.. Especially when it's outside and 95F and the bride insists on an hour ceremony In a church without air conditioning A wedding I went to in North Carolina this summer expressly said on the invitation that people could wear whatever they wanted (at a business/church casual-level) and still most of the suckers showed up completely dressed up to the nines and sweating their bits off in an un-air conditioned church. Madness. What part of NC? I was in an August wedding a few years back. In a wool tux. In August. Outside. I literally had to continuously wipe my face sweat throughout the entire wedding so it didn't drip off my face.
  2. Board index page. Click where it says "donations" above the meter thing thanks. I read this thread twice and somehow both times I skipped over that message.
  3. app.php/donation thank you - done!
  4. I guess I'm slow, but I can't find the exact page to make the donation. Is there a direct link? Am I missing said direct link? I tried searching the link posted but came up empty-handed. Unfortunately, as a separated parent of a 14-week-old, it's not going to be a ton. But I spend plenty of time here and would like to give back. To somewhat even the scales I turned off adblocker on NSBB only and will click on a few ads a day to try to even it out.
  5. lol, that is quite the backhanded compliment and also quite ironic considering a lot of people/posters (maybe/probably not raw, just some) seemed to think that he was thinking "too much" and needed to be benched in order to clear his head and quit pressing. I can't imagine anything more pressing than a one game, do-or-die playoff.
  6. mental gaffes? pretty sure those are actual physical mistakes bringing his grade down...not stuff like "oh whoops i forgot to cover" or whatever defensive metrics aren't perfect, but i'd say your anecdotal observations should be taken with much more of a grain of salt. i'm talking about mental gaffes that lead to errors. a statistic. but not ones that are typical or speak to his ability as a defender. i have no idea how you think those aren't a part of his ability as a defender. we've been seeing him play for 5 years. that is what he is. Because they still feel a bit flukey to me. But maybe he will always make a certain # of "dumb" plays every year. Maybe you're right. I clearly said my view may be meatbally and wrong. I never said anything with conviction, only stated my opinion. The last thing I'll say is that you and I and everyone here can probably agree that defensive metrics are the most difficult of any of the current advanced metrics to accurately reflect. They can sometimes vary greatly depending on who the source is that is tracking them. There's a bit more room for "observational analysis" than any other facet of the game. However, I will be the first to say I would to get up and walk from the table when it comes to those most qualified to weigh in on those analyses. I was simply stating my humble opinion.
  7. all you guys are way the [expletive] ahead of me. my Internet connection is wack tonight and russell just now bounced that double off the wall.

  9. i realize that the "mental gaffes" are taken into account in defense statistics (and they should, I suppose). But - and maybe this is meatbally - but I've never felt like Starlin was ever a liability on defense. His range isn't great, but he's always seemingly been quick in this reactions. His arm is more than adequate and as we saw tonight, he's capable of making really great plays. I guess I just feel like defensive metrics have to be taken with a grain of salt. It's the one (and last) side of baseball, to me, that isn't really all that easy or accurate to grade out. That being said, since I "feel" he's average to maybe a tick about average, anybody else could "feel" the opposite.
  10. castro single and baez double back-to-back makes me really happy
  11. lmao is he gonna be doing our playoff games this year i don't know where to look, but someone please confirm he will not. STAT, please. i'd rather hear stuff like AND ANTHONY RIZZO (or KRIS BRYANT or KYLE SCHWARBER) PLAYS LONG BALL over whatever cardinal stroking crap joe buck has in store for us. Dammit. I didn't even think of Joe Buck being an alternative. Yes, I, too, would choose that douche Thom over Joe. But I'm decidedly unhappy to hear either of their voices, ever. Most definitely when it's a Cubs game.

  13. I just realize I just accidentally typed "if I were a Cubs", but I kind of like it so I won't edit. I also need to start proofing texts better.
  14. kind of dead so i'll share a side story. so i haven't watched wrestling since i was probably 14 or so (no offense to those that do, it just wasn't my thing after that). But I had an old friend into town the other day and we were laughing at how horrible the intro songs used to be. "million dollar man" ted diabiase's was particularly obnoxious and over-the-top ( ). It was also completely racist and shitty that Virgil was his servant. Anyway, we moved on to Mr. Perfect's theme music and I decided on that Sunday morning at Denny's after a long night of heavy drinking that that would definitely be my walk-up music if I were a Cubs. Here it is in all it's epic glory:
  15. makeup call for blatantly missing strike three on the 0-2? it's all i got.
  16. i'm not convinced that starlin is going to do anything, be it good or bad is this a prediction in the case that you think the cubs lose the WC game and he doesn't play at all? or is this a prediction that you think even if the cubs win that starlin would never play? I'd disagree with the first but it's possible. the latter would definitely not happen. it's neither of those things it's the fact that starlin castro is both capable of being great and horribly awful for long periods of time and i have no idea what to expect from him agreed. after re-reading it with that explanation it makes more sense. i just read it differently the first time.

  18. how many times do you see it? a guy makes a great play in the field and then comes to bat the next inning and... WOW - I'm so so so happy for him.
  19. know I'm late here, but that was absolutely ridiculous. hats off to starlin. some people may have given up on him...but he certainly never gave up on himself.
