  1. Fernando? eta -- Yep. He won both. I don't think he meant both being the same player, just did one club win both awards A quick search shows (since 1967): 1973: Baltimore Orioles (Jim Palmer, Al Bumbry) 1981: LA Dodgers (Valenzuela X2) 1983: Chicago White Sox (LaMarr Hoyt, Ron Kittle) 1994: Kansas City Royals (David Cone, Bob Hamelin) I didn't, but I think Tim knew that, too. Thanks for the research, though. Maybe a little bit more common than I would have thought, but still not very often.
  2. why would a a baseball fan purposefully not read fangraphs?
  3. thanks for the info, guys. missed the game last night.
  4. I feel like with the playoffs this year and being set up for sustained success that we are going to see some of these posters coming back. Should be interesting, at the very least.
  5. I have no idea why they'd have Schwarber in RF and Coghlan in LF. Coghlan has played some RF already this year (TT may disagree with my choice of word "play"). I wonder if Al got those two mixed up.
  6. FWIW I just gave him a heart. Also, totally forgot about A New Era. Aesthetically speaking, his sig may be the worst thing in the history of the world.
  7. Has a club ever had both the ROY and CY in the same year? I'm guessing so but surely it's rare
  8. Fun question. I think that's the winner, the only one I can think of that might be close is West Virginia. Arkansas would be high on my list too, but my opinion of Mike Anderson is probably much different than the average. Thanks! I have a similar case in that I would put Roy Williams (HATE!) and Larry Fedora up there, too. But my bias is so strong I don't know if that is skewing the meter significantly for me against the consensus. I don't guess Fedora has really done much additionally other than coach a UNC team to make me hate him (not that I know of - please give me suggestions if there are), but I hate Roy enough for two coaches, so it's probably that.
  9. Dear God, I realize nobody here really cares about the NCSU game (*considers ending post now...will continue*) but these refs are absolutely brutal. obvious forward pass and literally no call on the field after it was tipped and dropped, everyone stood around for a second, and then Louisville picks it up to run it in. No call for either incomplete or fumble. Thank goodness for replay.
  10. just do that now Yeah, you're right. I'm going to forward it to him on Monday or Tuesday before the WC game to gather his thoughts. If there is anything noteworthy I'll report back for you all.
  11. Question: Does Louisville have the douchiest football/basketball duo of coaches in Petrino and Pitino (never thought about how similar there names were, actually) in all of NCAA?
  12. I swear to God, though, if the Cubs with the WS this year I'm forwarding him that email and saying, "Maybe we jumped the gun after game one, bruh?"
  13. what ever happened to the dude who always asks you about the cubs the guy that sent me this email after GAME ONE? I forwarded it to his boss (who I'm really close with because he was previously the undergrad coordinator of my school) and we still joke around and drop a "man, quit DUMBLING!" reference every now and then. and lol at him picking Shilling (sic) or Kruk to quote. he's a nice guy and all, and I was nice enough in my response but i basically said "it's a long year and they have a lot of young talent". I also emailed him after Jake pitched in game 2 (a W, of course) and I said that Jake was the "real deal". I'm guessing he's enjoying the year but he works in the building beside mine and I haven't talked to him in months. I guess if I really wanted to be a nice guy I could email him and ask him.
  14. so NCSU hasn't lost since Nov 8 of last year and is 4-0 this year and today's game is the first I've been able to watch. and of course they go down 0-14 to the 1-3 Louisville team. Here's hoping they can pull an ECU from last week (I assume nobody here watched it, but ECU went down 0-14 to VT before coming back to win 28-14). Apparently UL has had musical chairs at QB this year but have settled on true Freshman Lamar Jackson. Looks like a good decision. He's fast as hell and just dropped a beautiful pass into the endzone.
  15. The holy grail... hahaha. i feel like somebody requests that about once a year and nobody can ever find one. i remember watching it live that night. I think I was at the library or something and should have been working on a group project. either that or helping my ex study for her OT classes.
  16. and another thing (apparently i'm a chatty cathy today so I'll just keep talking to myself), I'm going to tell everyone I see on Wednesday all about the Cubs and the game that night and about Jake and how sexy he is and how my beard sucks compared to his, etc. My advisee's probably won't care but most of them like me so they'll probably humor me. I've been keeping an updated "Cubs record" on my whiteboard on my office door so everyone in the office already knows about the game.
  17. Yeah I agree. Some of the stuff definitely has a "fluff" feel and the #sparkle stuff is over-the-top (though I haven't seen to much of those types of posts recently). It's generally good info, just from a bit of a "fanboy" viewpoint. I guess I can tune-out the slightly annoying stuff enough to enjoy a good bit of his content. OTOH, we probably have a dozen posters who are more qualified than the Luke guy to cover his minor leagues (namely TT, davell, toonster, etc.)
  18. that being said, i will be equal parts excited and nervous. maybe not nervous because I don't have confidence the cubs can win. just nervous because every moment can be monumental. which, is part of the reason it's so amazing. i'm going to be hanging on every single pitch. I'll probably be like 6 inches away from my TV. Basic cable is included in my HOA andI stream way too much stuff to really care about the premium channels. But, I'm going to be a little bit pissed that I'm not going to be watching this one in HD #firstworldprobs
  19. I heart you with all my heart. This is so great, I'm going to enjoy every moment. I was honestly thinking of you when I posted that. I channeled my inner-gooney, some may say. and this is coming from someone who used to want a 3-game playoff in lieu of the 1-game. But, i've done a complete heel turn on that one. the excitement is amazing. there's really no change in regards to "flukeiness" between 1-3 games. And you match up your stud starters on both teams and just battle till one kills the other. it's pretty amazing, actually.
  20. For crying out loud, please stop complaining about the one-game playoff. Of course everyone wishes they were a division winner. But - as has been mentioned numerous times - they wouldn't even have had the opportunity a few years back. Win the damn game and move on.
  21. Not a sit vs. start question, but rather a trade question. Who wins? (full PPR - big bonuses for 100+ yards, 150+ yards, etc) Team A. D. Thomas (DEN - WR) D. Jackson (WSH - WR) L. Blount (NE - RB) for Team B. D. Freeman (ATL - RB) D. Adams(GB - WR) A. Foster (HOU - RB)
  22. they're calling for flooding here in greenville, nc. and that's without any rain coming from Joaquin. apparently it's raining everywhere.
  23. I'm probably going to be nervous, but I haven't been this excited for a game in the last dozen years. That's freaking awesome.
