  1. I don't see Dusty as all that desperate to take a guy he just hit #3 out of the lineup. Dusty has his obvious flaws, but I think some of you are overly worrisome about Murton getting time taken away.
  2. Is Nevin in the last year of his contract? If so, good deal.
  3. LOL. That was a sucker punch, plain and simple. Pierzynski had no reason to expect a punch was coming, and no chance to defend himself even if he did. By the time Pierzynski had a chance to begin processing why the heck Barrett was grabbing him, he was already headed to the ground. It wasn't a sucker punch. I don't know why it keeps getting painted as one. He shouldn't have done it, but that doesn't make it a sucker punch, per se. Sucker punches come from the back/blindside when a person has absolutely no reason to expect it.
  4. What "shot"? nothing terrible, but i thought it was a random thing to throw in there. LOL. Wow. Some "shot".
  5. WHAT?!?!?!? Of course he did less than Anderson. he didn't throw a single punch. Anderson threw a few.
  6. So he shouldn't be allowed to comment(read: Answer a pointed question) on the situation, which happened while he was pitching and he was about 10-20 feet away from? He shouldn't be allowed to do anything other than give a PC answer.
  7. I'd settle for seeing him win one. here's a fun fact...how many runs have the cubs scored in hill's four losses? 1 (that's combined) pretty sure it wouldn't matter much if hill had an era of 8 or 1...the offense is the problem, not rich hill. Why does there have to be only one problem. Hill has yet to show he belongs in the majors and is looking more and more like a AAAA player with every start. He still can't figure out how to throw strikes at the major league level. I don't care what he has done at AAA, it definitely isn't transferring to the big leagues.
  8. Williams is getting shallacked at Iowa.
  9. I don't see how you can say it is the same team. Verlander has been pitching for the entire season and is pitching very well. Plus, Bonderman has another year of experience under his belt. Zumaya has also been added to the pen. Those, plus the aforementioned Rogers, are some pretty valuable improvements to the pitching staff over last year.
  10. Dempster should not be bood after blowing that save. I don't care what kind of logic for it anyone wants to throw my way.
  11. Do other teams have both a righty and a lefty that throw BP?
  12. Exactly. So let's get to the lineups: Cubs Pierre, CF Cedeno, SS Walker, 1B Ramirez, 3B Murton, LF Jones, RF Barrett, C Perez, 2B Maddux, P Arizona Counsell, SS Byrnes, CF Tracy, 3B Gonzalez, LF Jackson, 1B Green, RF Estrada, C Hudson, 2B Batista, P Thanks Bruce! Neifi in the lineup always = a very bad thing. Thank god he's at the very bottom. Honestly, when hasn't he this year?
  13. Tom Kelly knew this. I'm very surprised that Gardnehire and Baker seem oblivious to the futility of putting Jones out there against a lefty. Heck, just look at the Cubs performance against lefties this year and admit that something needs to change.
  14. I definitely agree. It's very frustrating to watch. ESPECIALLY when he does it with a left handed batter (which he did with Walker in the two hole sometimes last year).
  15. On that point, I agree.
  16. I highly doubt there exists no evidence that supports the inference that getting a runner over to third from second with nobody out (one out after the bunt) increases a team's chance of scoring the runner that was on second. No Sully is correct. I don't know the exact numbers but the chances of scoreing with a runner on first and no outs is higher than scoreing a run with a runner on second and one out. Outs are precious and should be treated as such. That wasn't my scenario though. What about a runner on second with nobody out vs. a runner on third with one out? A team is likely to score more runs when a runner is on second with no outs than with a runner on third with one out: http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902.html That's not hypothetical. The numbers come from actual games played between 1999-2002. In most situations a sac bunt is a dumb idea, and bunting Pierre to third is no exception. Again, I'm not sure that is enough information. I am talking about the situation where you are trying to get one run. Like, a tie game in the bottom of the ninth. Which alternative is more likely to get that one run? I am fully aware that if you take an out away from the inning, you are less likely to score a bunch of runs.

  19. I highly doubt he did that on his own for a sacrifice. Especially having attempted it twice.
  20. I think the answer is rather simple--this year's young players are better than those we have had in the recent past. Well, that and the fact that his pitching options are rather limited at this point in time.
  21. Dusty is definitely directing Cedeno to bunt. It's one of the things that Dusty does that absolutely infuriates me. The absolute WORST is when he bunts with a left handed batter (not a pitcher) with nobody out and a runner on second. Mind-blowing.
  22. I think it would be great if they can sign Pena, but being that would be a FA and could go anywhere he wanted, would he want to come to Chicago where there is no way in heck that he would be starting in 2 months? Or would he just want a chance to showcase himself?
  23. No, I think they knew they needed to add a real threat at the punt return position all year long.
  24. think so? Hawk was a no-brainer, but Hodge is hardly a savior.... He is a heck of a player at this stage of the draft. Many Iowa fans acknowledge Hodge to be much more fundamentally sound than Greenway. He never misses tackles. Barnett is now GB's 3rd best LB.
