  1. I agree, but I already have two great 19-20 guys in Huston Street and Ryan Howard...I guess I maybe should have said that part. Basically, I am just trying to fill my last slot from one of my extra 3rd basemen.
  2. Now, my keeper league is a little complicated, but I'll try to make this as simple as possible. Basically, you can keep certain guys (top tier) in your top six draft slots if you want. If you keep one, you lose your first round pick. If you save five, you lose your first five picks, and so on. I have two third basemen in Atkins and A. Ramirez that, if I kept, would be required to be kept in the top six. Now, we have twenty man rosters and there are certain second tier guys that you can keep in draft slots 18, 19, and 20, depending on whether you keep 1-3 of them. I have been offered Tom Gordon as one of those 18-20 type keepers in exchange for Atkins. I think I should do it. I already have Ramirez (there's no way for me to keep both) who can also play third and it would be nice to have a closer (not top tier, but middle tier) going into the draft as my 18th round pick. My only concern is Gordon's age (near 40). Any thoughts?
  3. It's hard to really call Montanez a "wasted first round pick" when pretty much all of the first rounders that year haven't turned out to be anything. That was a pretty weak draft.
  4. ??? Does Marcus Giles have a choice in the matter?
  5. I agree. I have a rather strong feeling that Sisco will never realize anything near his full potential. Maybe exposing him in the Rule V draft wasn't really all that perplexing.
  6. With all due respect to Bruce Miles, he posted: "That's what amuses me about some of these Ryan Church posts. It's not that easy to make a trade." Surely you don't think he is calling people stupid, do you? How is what he said any different than the gist of my post?
  7. What in the world are you talking about? Also, I thought we aren't supposed to make things personal on this board? Where have I done so?
  8. A great point. An obvious point. And one that could stand to be considered a little more often here. You got that, stupid people? It's unfortunate that you went that route in responding to my post.
  9. I don't know exactly what the Nats have asked for Church, but it's likely they've started with Rich Hill. They're famous for this kind of stuff. No surprise considering how they were able to fleece the Reds last year. It was almost like a lower scale Zambrano for Kazmir deal.
  10. A great point. An obvious point. And one that could stand to be considered a little more often here.
  11. I almost always give some benefit to a hitter who plays half their games in an extreme pitcher's park. I haven't done it for Izturis, which probably isn't fair. But, I don't think I'm being completely unfair, because he has missed a significant amount of time over the last 2 years, and that time could definitely hurt his chances of matching what he did in 2004, which is almost a mirror image of Juan Pierre's 2006 season and not very good offensive output for someone earning a major league paycheck. But more tolerable than Pierre's production because he won't be doing it from the lead off spot and actually gives the team plus defense at his position (which Pierre couldn't do).
  12. Boston is clearly looking for a closer. Ohman or Eyre don't fall into that category. Whether or not Dempster does (in their eyes) is up for debate, although I am guessing they aren't all that interested.
  13. Why can't they put Papelbon back in the bullpen if they have too many starters?
  14. He'd be stupid not to take it. No he wouldn't. He could still get more on the open market. He could have his choice of the team he wants to play for. He could get out of Canada. I wouldn't take the deal at this point. Worst case scenario, he gets severely injured and gets a 1-year deal for a ton of money and gets his shot as a FA after 2008. Yes, he most certainly would be stupid not to take it. The minimal amount more he MIGHT be able to get on the open market is just not worth the risk of something happening to him on a permanent level. These, as we all know, are guaranteed money contracts. He'd be crazy to turn down that kind of money that is most certainly at least very close (I think above) his market level. Unless he REALLY hates Toronto, there is no sane reason to turn down that deal.
  15. What about most all of the days of the 2006 season?
  16. Why in the world would Ohman be non-tendered?
  17. Do you know how well Pie hit in the second half of his season in Iowa?
  18. Because they are commodities with value that should not just be given away.
  19. There's really no reason to think that this is the case.
  20. Why can't Miller go to the pen if another spot in the rotation is needed?
  21. Yeah, but how often do you think a signing is a good one? Rarely, IIRC.
  22. Sometimes, it's not luck Exactly. BABIP is far from a statistic that one can draw concrete inferences from.
  23. Hill has a TON more value than James.
  24. It's funny how little is thought of Floyd in this thread. The kid has high upside (killer curve) who was a former TOP prospect. If he were a Cub, most of this board would be up in arms and upset about this deal. Just goes to show you how much our prospects get overvalued on this board while others are generally underrated.
  25. Do you know what his OBP was during the second half of the season in Iowa? I think it was somewhere in the .360s. If he can sustain anywhere near that level, that's good enough for me.
